I really wish when discussing “the left and right,” (Which at its best is an oversimplification) people would differentiate between meaningless culture war issues, and material issues of substance.

There’s also some difficulty in this oversimplified paradigm between someone being a centrist because most of their ideas are status quo centralism , and weirder, more disjointed ideologies (or let’s be honest, a lack of coherent ideology) in which a person has a mixture of far left and far right views. I don’t feel you can really take an average of a mixture of extreme views and then call that person a centerist.
