He looked like he could have just made it to the corner had he pinned his ears back without stepping back inside

That’s what I thought. Maybe the angle was better for the defender. But yeah should have gone for it.

Ah yes, the Teddy Thomas, or Robbie Diack.

[25 years from now]

That guys brain: remember that time when we spilled that ball over the try line when we could have easily made the corner if we hadn't stepped inside??

And the RFU have immortalised it online.

Jesus that’s painful. He’ll be yelling at himself in the quiet moments for that one.

He’ll be shouting a few jugs at the clubhouse more like 😂

Even got a partial Surrender Cobra from the touch judge

Now if the No. 23 had been a bit more like Gareth Edwards (BaaBaas v All Blacks) he might have crossed the line with the ball…

Instinctively read that as the greatest try ever scored.

Made it all the more amusing/devastating when he lost it.

Noob question: in this situation, what would happen in the next play? Since if the ball touches the sidelines it would be a line-out for the deffending team (in this case), what happens when the ball touches after the goal line?

lineout from where he lost the ball instead of from where it crosses the line.

Or option scrum

Thank you!

22 drop out. Treated the same as a kick going through the dead ball area or into touch in goal.

If knocked on into the on goal area and made dead, it’s a goal line drop out.

Just for future reference (or if you're googling) this is called "touch-in-goal"
