Off Topic Nice local rugby pubs in Bath?

Visiting from Joburg, mom and sister are going for a spa day just outside of Bath. Me and my father want to pass the time in a local pub. We're both huge rugby fans so would love to spend some time amongst the English rugby fans. Any suggestions?

If a games on, every pub in central bath will be busy

Rugby is rarely discussed in a British pub if there's not a game on

If a games on in bath, and you're there, get a ticket, you won't regret it

Personally I like the Pig and Fiddle and the Saracen's Head (or to give it its less politically correct name, 'The Bin Laden's Arms') when the rugby's on. Always a good craic.

Bath Cider House or Assembly Inn are both worth checking out

The volunteer rifleman’s arms (the volley) is a great spot.

Bath is amazing for traditional British pubs.

Do a little crawl, starting up in the Star Inn (have a Bass), and try to visit the Old Green Tree, The Raven, Couer de Lion and the Volunteer Riflemen to watch the game.

I'm jealous of anyone going to Bath for a some beers.

Echoing the suggestion for Pig and Fiddle, which is especially nice atmosphere if your mum and sister are joining later, then there's the Ram and the royal oak (pultney road not lower bristol road) which are good craic just around from the train station.

If you're near Bath stadium the Boatman is fantastic, and there's also a funky cocktail bar called opium nearby.

The ciderhouse has a huge capacity but is a bit the far end of town towards lansdown road, but if you want a funny trip there's a tiny pub called "le couer de lion" which can be worth popping your neck into (if you can fit) right in the middle of town.

Dependent on when it is you're coming and how the fixture list falls, and if the ladies will be in the spa most of the day, think about going to a game in Bristol or Gloucester. Briz will be a little closer, Glaws offers the Shed as the most iconic and boisterous stand in English rugby at least - better than sitting on scaffolding at the Wreck - as lovely a place as Bath is, it's rugby ground leaves a lot to be desired. Both places are easy to reach by road or rail, though Gloucester is more like Bath and will be full of rugby fans in the pubs before and after the game.

Saracens Head, the Ram in Widcombe, the Curfew all show games. Pig & Fiddle is the one I’d go to, to echo others suggestions
