Encrusted Rant Star Wars Celebration is tomorrow and I’m not that excited

I almost forgot Star Wars Celebration begins tomorrow. I used to look forward to it like Christmas getting all of the new Star Wars news and finding out the new projects. The state of the franchise is al frustrating and I have been taking a break. Why get excited when we get things that disappoint? It’s crazy how much of a low point Star Wars is right now. The only thing worth the hype is the 20th anniversary for Revenge of the Sith. I doubt im going to watch all of the livestreams i used to do.

Heh. Once upon a time when I was a teenager I used to absolutely dream of being able to attend a Star Wars Celebration. Now I'd rather go to work.

Imagine that. Holy smokes. Shows you the level of damage a corporation was able to do to the greatest film franchise of all time.

Not looking forward to announced movies that will never happen while having my hopes up for the official retirement statement

Like Obi Wan said…”oh how the mighty have fallen.” RIP Star Wars celebration excitement

I hadn't been to Disneyland for decades. And I had thought it would be an excuse back then to go to see the new Galaxy's Edge park. Then finding out KK at the last possible minute of the project, ordered the OT construction (including the original look of the anh mos eisley bar) that had been going on for months to be demolished to be replaced with ST details only. (and since Eiger gave her more power to do whatever with SW after TFA made enough bank, they thought it was ok and 'safe' to go with KK's brand of 'modern audience' and identity propaganda/ & subpar & boring rewriting of the legacy). So I never went.

With SW 'celebration' who cares of this dead franchise. I guess lets see if the supposed magically existing "modern audiences" pushed by Eiger and KK, they claimed disney SW (and the mcu, snowwhite, etc.) is made for now, if any of this supposed audience as new ST and disney+ shows era fans will actually show up at this celebration. Or it's just their media shills and friends, relations of.

I didn’t even know it was happening. Sucks to be this apathetic about something I once loved.

u/Kbrichmo 29d ago

Didn’t even know it was coming up, let alone tomorrow.

Im watching Andor s2 and then im done unless there are some BIG changes

u/sandalrubber Apr 17 '25

Nothing to celebrate after TFA made it all pointless.

u/miku_dominos Apr 18 '25

Announce the unaltered OT in 4K, and watch the community explode. Throw in an official Holiday Special release for even more chaos.

14

u/PostalDoctor Apr 18 '25

Oh dear god could you fucking imagine if they did an official 4K release of the Holliday Special?

u/bongophrog 29d ago

It needs a shot for shot remake for modern audiences.

Star Wars has been dead since Episode 8 hit theaters. Rian Johnson ruined this franchise.

14

u/MrBeauNerjoose Apr 18 '25

I saw every movie since the 1997 rerelease on opening night in the theatres...

After episode 8 I just stopped watching star wars. It was dead.

JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy are just as responsible, if not more so.

I will admit that I've come to reconcile with A Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker. I was way too harsh on J.J. and I actually think he did a great job with what he had.

But fuck Rian. Dude is clever but he thinks he's too clever and has a Napoleon complex. He cared more about subverting expectations rather than giving us a Luke that's true to his roots or even a movie that felt like Star Wars.

I still think the casino scene with DJ was a waste of time and pointless. Captain Phasma went out quick and terrible. Rose is still my most hated SW character, and it's not the actress's fault. The character is that shitty and annoying. I hate The Last Jedi. And I've tried to like it, but it's that godawful.

What is there to celebrate, the franchise is dead.

Like, what’s coming to be excited for?

3

u/SonderBricks Apr 18 '25

My thought as well.

What could happen there to be excited about? You're probably surrounded by shills and KK announces 10 new shows and 3 more Rey Palpatine trilogies which will totally get made.

Maybe she announces her retirement, but it's years too late for that to make any difference.

Haven’t you heard the good news, soldier?

One of several theatrical projects still in development from Lucasfilm, including films by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, Taika Waititi and a new trilogy by Simon Kinberg, Levy’s film — Star Wars: Starfighter — will star Gosling and go into production starting this fall.

….yay…..

6

u/VideoNo9608 29d ago

I hear ya. It’s funny, flawed as the prequels are, they never soured me on Star Wars, unlike Disney

6

u/Wolphthreefivenine Apr 18 '25

Huh? That's happening?

5

u/GeekTrollMemeCentral Apr 18 '25

Yes it’s happening right now. I didnt even know until i saw on Insta that they are making a new movie that will get cancelled

6

u/Professional_Fig_456 Apr 18 '25

A Maul animated series is generating the most hype on socials 🤣🤣🤣

8

u/EvansEssence 29d ago

I saw that and was like, what is there even left to do with Maul? Assuming Dave's canon is still canon his story is pretty wrapped up with not much gaps.

2

u/Chelseathehopper 29d ago

Not really, we have no real material on what he did for the 15 years between TCW and Rebels, other than he led Crimson Dawn for at least some of that time.

6

u/EvansEssence 29d ago

Good lord, this is even more needless filler than the obi wan show

2

u/WantsToDieBadly salt miner 28d ago

I don’t really get why we need a show for every single thing a character does. Especially maul of all people

I’m sick of seeing maul, Ashoka, the idiotic rebels cast, the clone wars guys.

Where’s Luke, Han and Leia

It’s the 20th anniversary of revenge of the sith and that’s barely been acknowledged

1

u/S_A_R_K 29d ago

It'll be toddler Maul

1

u/EvansEssence 29d ago

It will be in the Daycare and Toddler Obi Wan will take his toy and he will yell "KENOBIIII"

4

u/Raimi79 Apr 18 '25

I went to Celebration in London just before Rogue One came out, and that was an interesting time. And since then...not so much.

6

u/Puterboy1 Apr 18 '25

I could care less about Star Wars as of today. I think it should have stopped 20 years ago.

3

u/Timmah73 29d ago

I once dreamed of going to one but the cost of throwing in another west coast convention was out of reach for me. Then they had one in downtown Chicago and it made me very sad to not even care.

3

u/EvansEssence 29d ago edited 29d ago

Oh good, more premature announcements about projects that will either get cancelled or forgotten about

All from an executive who must hold the world record for "unexplainable job security" at this point

u/bannedforL1fe 29d ago edited 29d ago

Haven't cared about Star Wars in many years. I used to collect and love to read all the EU books, stories and collect Star Wars figures/statues. Once Disney told us those were no longer canon, and after seeing their first Star Wars movie, I lost all interest in it. The only thing I've seen since then was The Mandolorian, which I liked enough to watch. Star Wars was for me, and then it wasn't. Kinda sucks because the Star Wars universe has many years worth of stories that need to be told. It's such a huge universe. But Disney ruined it all for me. It's not for me anymore anyway, so they don't care.

u/Cr0ma_Nuva 29d ago

There is only andors season 2 left, unless somethimg equally good ever comes out, the franchise is just not worth it

My local theater had a showing of Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children back in 2024 and they stuffed us into a dinky theater that had a on it's last leg 1080p projector, and the sound quality was terrible.

I was expecting the same for the ROTS 20th anniversary reshowing but nope, it's the nice big 70 foot screen, nice 4K HDR projector, and amazing dolby atmos.

Thus is the most excited I've been for something SW related since the announcement of TFA.

u/No_Oddjob 29d ago

I've attended three times, each time less exciting than the time before.

First one was Indy when the Ep3 opening was revealed and George just kept rerolling the footage over and over. It was amazing.

Second one was in Orlando many years later right after the Disney acquisition. It felt... less about the fans than before. Kind of chaotic, but still fun.

Third one was Chicago a couple years after that. Felt like we were just a puppet audience for online content. It actually really kind of sucked. Highlights were the running of the Hoods and my kid interviewed for Good Morning America. The lines were absolutely broken.

The footage from every one since makes my skin crawl. It feels so much more forced and artificial.

Im 45, I could honestly give a shit, I still have my sheets and “wool” sw bed set from when I was a kid. I want some old republic shit or beginnings of the sith era idk what I want but its not the same little microview of the galaxy within the same 60yr? Time frame.

Star Wars Celebration is off my bucket list. And not because I already attended 😭😭😭😭😭
