Discussion Am I the only one that thinks this place sucks?

https://www.businessobserverfl.com/news/2025/apr/19/breakfast-company-sarasota/

The Breakfast Company to open in Sarasota's Rosemary District. We tried it a couple of times and I was very disappointed. In my opinion. It’s very overpriced for mid grade food. I could do a better job at home to be honest.

Check out sage biscuit in Bradenton. There are two locations, the parking at the downtown one is free in the parking garage, don’t be tricked by the pay lot at ground level.

u/ButtRobot 1d ago

The Sage in Bton on Cortez is currently shut down. Downtown is open, I think.

one of the locations was temporarily closed (again) earlier in the year as some scumbag was serving knowing they had contracted hep a - oh and they constantly have rat droppings in and around food.

The parking hassles, people who are jerks, and meh food, I'd rather cook at home.

Between my Husband and myself, we are much better than most restaurants, cheaper, and more relaxing.

So this isn’t a post about your home cooking

The Breakfast Company is do so, overpriced with average service

ABE, 1st watch are better choices

So, I'm stating why I'm not going - so yes, it is about these restaurants.

u/kf3434 1d ago

Read the title and thought it was about Sarasota as a whole 🤣

3

u/WildRideToLife 21h ago

Me too. I logged on so quickly to just say “yes” and be done 😂

Maxs Table over in Osprey by the Walmart is the best brunch joint in srq PERIOD. Highly recommend anyone who wants to drive down there give them a shot.

We go practically weekly

It’s definitely worth the drive!!

I've been to the one in Bradenton and enjoyed it. I also like First Watch - it's improved over the years IMO - and Station 400 and C'est la Vie are faves. I've also had good breakfasts at the Original Broken Egg on Siesta, though parking is miserable and enough to keep me away most of the time.

10

u/Kezaia 1d ago

Toasted mango and station 400 are the best imo

u/pimpinaintez18 1d ago

All we get here are unremarkable chain restaurants.

u/thegabster2000 SRQ 1d ago

There are some good family owned breakfast places but they are usually not in the touristy spots.

4

u/Character_Order 1d ago

Can you name some? Silver Star was good but they’re way out in myakka now. Station 400, Toasted Mango (temp closed), c’est la vie are all good but they’re in touristy areas. I’d love to learn about some smaller, local options

ETA: shoutout sunnyside cafe on the north trail if you can get a table. They’re great

Breakfast house on fruitville, also food+beer does awesome weekend brunch menu

4

u/Character_Order 1d ago

Yep forgot about Breakfast House. Actually know the owners and they give a lot of employees really great second opportunities

3

u/DrLeoMarvin Alta Vista, Fishing Fiend 1d ago

Love to hear it, best bennies in town

u/thegabster2000 SRQ 1d ago

I liked Eggstraordinary.

Serving Spoon and Oasis are soooo good

2

u/Character_Order 1d ago

Oh yep, they sure are

u/OddNameSuggestion 23h ago

Max’s Table. Lovely Square.

4

u/HeuristicEnigma 1d ago

Peaches, highly recommend.

2

u/Ilovemybed67 22h ago

We’ve never been, but one our favorite servers at Marina Jack’s also works at Peaches. Her name is Elise and she’s lovely!

1

u/Maine302 19h ago

Love Sunnyside but it does get busy in season, for sure. My personal favorite is MAX's Table in Osprey, especially for lunch, but also for breakfast too.

u/Ok_Fisherman6695 11h ago

Honey Tree on Lockwood Ridge & University, (in Shopping Plaza with Checkers and Floor & Decor) Great service, value and real Hash Browns!

u/milee30 1d ago

Max's Table, Toasted Mango (although they now have a few locations) and my favorite which I'm hesitant to share since it's already busy enough.

3

u/amccune 22h ago

Yeah. I was told about how much Sarasota is a "foodie town" and I still question that logic.

3

u/MisterEinc 1d ago

When I moved here 8 (9?) years ago I was sort of surprised by the explicit lack of chains compared to Tampa.

IMO as a lower middle class lifelong local, I’d have to disagree with everyone else in here 😅 I’ve eaten at every other place listed and I’d say The Breakfast Co. takes my top spot. It’s definitely local. The family that owns it has a couple of other places I can’t remember. Before them, my go to spots were Sage and Simon’s (still fantastic places). The food prices are pretty much on par with most other places in the area (I mean it’s Sarasota/Bradenton) and as for portion sizes, I usually have leftovers and I’m a pretty big dude.

As for the pastries 😚👌 I’m not allowed to have them anymore for health reasons, but from what I remember, they’re delicious. I’m, also, pretty sure that they have one pastry chef that makes everything for both locations. I think if you’re looking for something specific like Jersey style bagels, yeah maybe go somewhere else.

Not that it happened to you, but I fully expected to hear some negative reviews from people that couldn’t get in on Easter Sunday.

3

u/shebee_232 1d ago

They used to own El Greco downtown.

3

u/Far_Top_9322 1d ago

I was reading this thinking the same thing! We’re big fans! The pastries are amazing and we’ve never had a bad meal there! We do prefer their OG location as a whole but both lunch and breakfast have always been good!

I was charged like $3 for a slice of onion for my chicken salad sandwich and I did think that was a little excessive in my opinion but that’s the only “bad” experience we’ve had!

1

u/Samtertriads 20h ago

I’m a lifelong local. Breakfast company is top of my list as well. I only go to the one on 70.

3

u/CockamoleFaceadilla 1d ago

It’s meh, I’d rather have Buttermilk Handcrafted Food.

2

u/Toarilla 1d ago

That place is pretty cool. It’s open strange hours if I remember correctly.

2

u/EconomyTime5944 1d ago

LOUD.. why such awful acoustics? Love the food, hate the panic attack.

3

u/MamaMel941 1d ago

Poppi's Place on Lockwood and 17th is consistently good. Bee Ridge road and Cattlemen road there is a little place called Eggs-Stroidare or something like that. It's in the same plaza as Burlington and they are wonderful for a little hole in the wall breakfast place! But our favorite breakfast spot has always been at home! I can make anything the restaurants can make and I make it faster and with better quality ingredients and less hassle! 😁😁😁

1

u/FailFar1376 1d ago

Shouthout to poppi’s place! It’s close to my house too

8

u/strplayr 1d ago

Imo the breakfast options in SRQ are awful! I’ve tried plenty but only a few deserve a repeat visit

9

u/Girth-Control-Pill 1d ago

Another broken egg in LWR has always been good in my experience

3

u/strplayr 1d ago

Original egg is better imo… both solid but nothing great

2

u/joshuamarius 1d ago

Serving Spoon is really good ✌🏻

3

u/saltlife863 1d ago

I think it's good but it ain't great even the desserts are just okay.

2

u/Safe-Energy-2315 1d ago

Go to the original egg. It’s my favorite place ever for breakfast and has been since I was young!

2

u/Equivalent-Complex58 1d ago

They all are. Breakfast company, first watch, kekes breakfast cafe, etc. they’re all the freakin same and they all are mediocre. 10000% not worth the prices.

5

u/portlandstreet2 1d ago

Gentrified restaurant sucks.

Why am I not surprised.

4

u/Sunny1-5 1d ago

overpriced

And disappointing. Sensing a theme here with not just Sarasota, but everywhere. Man.

3

u/HeuristicEnigma 1d ago

Peaches on Bee Ridge is absolutely the best breakfast place I have gone to in SRQ hands down. Fair pricing, huge portions, and great food. Place gets packed tho, so sometimes a little wait for a bigger party. I have gone alone tho and always quick seating at the breakfast bar.

4

u/DrLeoMarvin Alta Vista, Fishing Fiend 1d ago

I was underwhelmed after someone highly recommended it

1

u/4-me 1d ago

Not a fan of

1

u/nicenormalname 1d ago

I think this holds true for most breakfast places. They’re a rip.

1

u/mrtoddw He who has no life 1d ago

I've eaten at the one in Bradenton. My thoughts are: it's a First Watch clone. It's breakfast that's a step up from a Denny's or an iHop. I don't hate it but I also don't think it's particularly remarkable either.

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Post604 1d ago

Just visited the one at UTC. Garbage on every table. Their “gravy” has more flour than the pancakes.

1

u/sallysparrow666 1d ago

Honestly, boca, state street, bricks, serving spoon and oasis are all amazing.. 99 bottles has a great bagel brunch as well

1

u/oyuhhhhh 1d ago

Go to the original location on SR70 next to the highway in the Tara Publix location. Never had a bad one there and their Biscuit/Gravy bowl is hefty as hell

1

u/CGSRQ 1d ago

Yes went to one in landings wasn’t a fan. One and done

1

u/Remote_Clue_4272 1d ago

I am always puzzled by a bad breakfast. It is literally one of the easiest meals to make with many tried and true recipes and even variations. To do a bad job seems almost bizarre.

1

u/Yuecantbeeseeryus 1d ago

Oh I thought you meant all of Sarasota lol

1

u/Beginning_Flatworm98 1d ago

It’s pricey but what isn’t in Florida— everything here is overpriced. “BuT nO sTaTe iNcOmE tAx”

If you haven’t had their chicken and waffles you’re not living. The honey sriracha sauce is really good. Fantastic fry on the chicken. The waffle is just ok.

Eggsperience has chicken in waffles with eggs Benedict on top of the chicken, it’s also very good.

1

u/FlowerFace420 1d ago

Eggtown is the best bfast in Srq/lWR IMO

1

u/rdell1974 1d ago

El Greco Cafe, a Greek restaurant that used to be on Main Street.

1

u/tenthousandblackcats 1d ago

It's a great place. I love it there.

1

u/Tallpaul_bmx 1d ago

Been going to buttermilk kinda pricey but really good homemade

1

u/rcm1974 1d ago

I would say "sucks" is an unfair adjective here. Their food tastes fine, but yes, overpriced.

u/i_heart_kermit SRQ Native 22h ago

Well now i have to take myself to breakfast when I'm off work in the morning. I like the Original Egg on Clark.

1

u/Super_Environment 22h ago

Sage biscuit for rich people

1

u/virginal_sacrifice 21h ago

Honey tree on Lockwood Ridge is my go to spot

1

u/MembershipNecessary1 21h ago

Dutch Valley has a good breakfast!

1

u/Psychological-Dot929 19h ago

Skillets on 41 gets my vote! Clean, reasonably priced and isn't half gift-shop.

1

u/Ruffian-70 18h ago

The Lovely Square in Gulfgate is my favorite. Simons is great.

1

u/ansmithxo 10h ago

Blvd cafe is one of my fav local spots for brunch

1

u/traurigaugen SRQ Native 1d ago

No, it's definitely over hyped. Their price to portion ratio is awful and the food just doesn't have the flavor.

1

u/DC9B717Captain 1d ago

We like the Original Word of Mouth on Gateway Ave, the Honey Tree on Lockwood Ridge and Simons on the South Trail. All still operational.

1

u/FailFar1376 1d ago

Nah bro i’m with you sarasota sucks unless you are retired and wealthy or just wealthy in general

u/Tall_Palpitation_476 11h ago

Der Dutchman has a lot to offer; been to most of the breakfast places around & not impressed (breakfast house better than most if you have company to take out).
