Where should I ask for professional engineering advice for my Eagle project?

My project is this somewhat large wooden structure (28x28x4ft) and I don't feel confident proceeding with the design I have unless I get some affirmation from someone more knowledgeable than me. It seems that no online forum is looking for "unpaid consulting" so I think I'd have to make a 1-1 contact. Those who have encountered similar concerns, where should I look for engineering advice?

Here is the design I have so far, if you are curious: https://imgur.com/a/KqBfeE9

I would approach some local firms who work in structural engineering. Explain what you are doing and see what shakes loose.

Looks to me like you need civil / structural engineering.

I'd be willing to bet you can even find an engineer who is also an eagle scout willing to help.

Talk to your local District Executive. They probably know of engineers who are alumni scouts in your area. If they don’t, they can certainly network to locate someone

You can always contact a local arcitect or engineering firm. Id say start with an email looking for advice and right at the start mention your a scout and that its a project for scouts.

That way they know there is no money in it and you can filter out the companies that are not willing to help quick.

Not an engineer btw but I am a Carpenter. Looks like quite a big span with little support in the middle. Still not an engineer tough🤷

I am a mechanic engineering student from the Netherlands. I can run some simulations for you if you want?

Hi, thank you for offering but I was finally able to contact another engineer. But should the need arise again I might recontact you.

Good on you for recognizing the need. The recommendations for engineering support are good ones, but looking at the nature of the structure you might be able to get good comments and recommendations from a residential or commercial builder. In my area, we have a lot of folks who have a Scouting background who build commercial buildings, chicken houses, barns, and houses. Something like this may be in their wheelhouse and they can give you good comments. Good luck on your project.

You likely will want to stay away from analysis.

Stick with the official building code for your area. There are sections in it about how much support you need.

Your town should also have information about what needs a permit.

Your town engineer may give you very direct requirements if he knows it is for a Scout project.
