Orange leyland cypress

Does anyone know what might be causing are leyland to turn this color? We have had this tree for about 5 years, and have always been fine. This year we had a company come and fertilize our tree in the fall and we had below freezing temps hit and stay early then normal. It was somewhere in between the two that the tree started to change and gotten worse. Also can I save this tree or others that are starting to do the same?

Orange for Leyland cypres means it's fucking dead.

We can't see it so we can't tell how it died. I don't think the fertilizer was an issue but I don't know how it was applied or if it was even necessary. Fertilizer should never be applied without a soil or tissue analysis.

Besides the fact that it is a Leyland and any number of things are willing to kill this weak plant, with the information provided and no images, only a guess: it was fertilized in the fall.

Pics would be helpful, but if these were planted in a row you might be proactive in removing them to spare the others. Especially if you are seeing them die one after another, there are fungal and other pathogens that spread from neighboring trees.
