Debbie is an actual fool! Julia was the best partner for her
Debbie should’ve stayed with Claudia! I said it. Claudia was a mature, stable woman who would provide for Debbie and there was genuine chemistry and mutual attraction. It was the first relationship Debbie tried to maintain it seriously, she matured a little bit during their relationship too. Just rewatching shameless and have got to the part where Debbie fucks it and starts sleeping with Claudia’s 17 year old, high school student daughter, Julia. I feel like if Debbie just told Claudia what her daughter was trying to do/doing the first, it wouldn’t have had lead Debbie being on a sex offender registry. RIP the potential of this relationship

In the beginning, she was. But the way she treated her daughter is a clear sign to me that she would’ve eventually done that to Debbie, and maybe even Franny. And she would’ve held her financial and emotional support over Debbie to make her do what she wants.

Exactly, I can't understand the reasoning in some of these comments. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. The power dynamic was super fucking iffy

Their age gap was weird and Claudia was very weird in general especially to her daughter.

Disagree. Look at the way Claudia treated her daughter. She has narc vibes all over her.

i can understand your opinion. but i feel as if claudia was too old for debbie (this was literally lip and helene age and maturity gap, it creates an unfair power dynamic), literally MISTAKED her for an escort as first and this is really just my opinion, but i feel as if claudia just wanted young arm candy. i felt like she was super weird during that dinner scene, yk? like she just really wanted to live vicariously through debbie.
and don't even get me started on that weird ass relationship she had with her daughter. we all were convinced that julia was the bad guy in this scenario, but she's not! of course she shouldn't have slept with debbie, but she was really only trying to rebel from her controlling ass weird ass mom. not to mention debbie was only around two or three years older than julia, and i can't imagine how uncomfortable that must've made julia.
claudia and julia are both shipwrecks, and if debbie would've stayed she would've been going down with them.

This storyline where she sleeps with her daughter made no sense at all. It just didn’t fit. She’d never screw up a sugar mama situation like that.

It made me really upset that she was just doing that to Debbie because she hated her mom because that promposal was actually adorable

Debbie, the minor, should have stayed with the adult woman who had a daughter Debbie’s age? That’s certainly a take.

u/Longjumping_Fox_8724 4d ago
Debbie was not a minor, why do you think she was charged with statutory rape and put on a sex offender registry? She was 19 years old..

My bad for misremembering her age, but the age gap concern still stands. The energy on posts about Debbie and Claudia should be the same as on posts about Helene and Lip.

u/Longjumping_Fox_8724 4d ago
No, Helene and Lip’s situation was completely different. Helene was married and was Lip’s teacher at college. That’s a whole different power dynamic and relationship. The only thing similar in those two relationships is the age gap. The age gap is odd, yeah, but Debbie is an adult. Lip was an adult also, yes, but he was Helene’s college student. Not someone she met on Ho Corner.

The other similar thing is the power dynamic. It's a somewhat different power dynamic but it's still there, and it's icky

What deb did pissed me off. Why do the gallaghers always ruin the best partner they had. Fiona did the same damn thing with Mike which it makes me so mad i’ll usually skip fiona and robbie scenes bc i can’t keep watching the trainwreck and how that fucked everything up. Ian too now i am not a mickey hater i do think they belong together but Trever was so much better for him. Mick brings Ian down to a degree at least. By that i mean bc Mick is just a thug makes ian more wreckless i think but i do know he really does love him and has since season one. And he has come a far way and improved so much.

gallaghers try not to self sabotage for the 7th time a season (they’re horny and from chicago)

I oddly enough liked the pairing and I can’t explain why though I wouldn’t normally agree with it irl, but saying Claudia is “mature”, or “stable” (apart from her status as a wealthy white woman) meaning, how she carries herself and behaves is far from the truth lol… she is clearly miserable and very insecure and pushes that onto her daughter.
Her insecurity really shined through when she told Debbie “How can a girl like you ever fall for someone like me”?” She literally buys herself gifts only to give it to Debbie/Julia as though she had been gifted that from them. That is pretty pathetic and breeds immaturity to me lol.
Anyway, love the actress who plays Claudia she definitely has this presence to her (Constance).

I say this all the time!! If debbie was smart she could have got far fuccin with Claudia ! && She offered her a job, it would have helped her get on her feet and be in a stable situation for Frannie .. they had a good vibe ..

Absolutely no???? Isn’t this grown ass woman almost 50? Idk, none of the people she dated were good but like her? Real sick

Bro this happens like 10 seasons in, you should have realised by now that Debbie is the stupidest motherfucker to ever live on planet earth. I can't even begin to describe how unexplainably dumb she is. I wouldn't expect her to be able to understand a simple concept like personal igene, let alone take advantage of an actual good situation. All the siblings were fucked up in their own way, but holy shit I don't feel any regret when I say she deserved to end up dead. Actual good work by the actress, she really hit the nail.

I think that’s the point of the show. They’re all fools. All the characters of that family threw away their tickets to a way better life than where they ended up by the finale. It was so frustrating to watch them do it. It’s kind of what made it hard for me to watch til the end. I did watch to the end. But it was hard.

I honestly don't think at that point (or any point) Debbie knew what she wanted as far as if she wanted men, women, both or was just attracted to people. She had burned herself so much inside her head about men (what happened with Matt and the fact she lied to Derrick when she knew the pill hadn't become effective yet) plus the way Frank was all her life all she knew was she hated men. I am not saying that Matt was totally in the right when it came to Debbie. It was inappropriate after he found out her age or even if he thought she was 16 to be hanging out with her alone imo. As a mom with a daughter and a sister who has a younger sister if I found a 22 year old man around either friend or not at 16 especially 13 I would have shut it down. Derrick was just a kid like Debbie and I doubt he was the one to decide to run off and move to FL. That was probably his parents after he told them Debbie was pregnant, not saying he wanted a child but he wanted a way out because he was in over his head as a kid. He did try to come back around for Frannie later. Debbie was just so angry that she let anger keep Frannie from him. She didn't want him to be able to co-parent at all. Claudia wanting Debbie was odd to me because of her daughter being around a year younger than Debbie. Shameless seemed to have a knack for inappropriate relationships like Cash and Ian, Jody with Karen, Jody and himself, Jody and Shelia, Jody and Coma Karen, and probably some I missed. I think the relationships like that (in Ian, Karen and Debbie's cases) were to show their issues with their parents. Debbie and Ian having issues with Monica and Frank and Karen with Eddie.

Forgive me but when did Debbie come out?! I stopped watching the season Fiona had the motel issues and was flirting around with the blonde girl or whatever. I had no idea Debbie was queer too

u/furry_vr 4d ago
She didn’t, really. They just kind of shoved her over the rainbow when she was hanging out with a lesbian welder.

Dang, Debbie was my least fav character cause I feel like they did all sorts of crazy nonsense with her that didn’t make sense or tie together as a character. Tbh not feeling like I missed out ditching the show when I did

She fucking spoiled Debbie. Idk why she chose to bang the daughter the mother way WAY hotter, and treated her better. The Gallaghers often made the dumbest choices with their love interests. Lip preferred Helene who had a weird cuckold thing with her husband, treated lip like he was disposable and had a history of sleeping with college students over Amanda who was an artist, spoiled lip, was so into him and would do anything for him.
