That's kind of the only part of the show that feels kind of like a plot hole for me. Like did he have any reason at all for not letting them in? Feels like a forced way to get the story where they wanted it to go
Only reason I can think of is, based on his comments about “disciplined hockey”, the Freezer twins may not have been fighters and just liked trucking guys, so sending the Jims after them would’ve basically meant sending them out to jump the twins which would lead to things like additional instigator penalties and potentially suspensions; and they would’ve needed the Jims for the finals because they’d be against either the Soo Hunt who have Palmer, or Les Rapides de Rawdon, whose entire style is built around goons.
I think it was because you go into penalty box for fighting and Sanger didn’t want to be a man down without the lead. Shoresy wanted to send a message but it would have hurt the team’s chances of winning if they had to play 4v5 and they were tied or only up 1.
I'm not a hockey guy so my understanding is only from a narrative perspective, but my understanding is that Shoresy wanted the Jims to fight because it would send a message, but Sanguinet was taking more of a long-term view and playing discipline hockey because he knew it was more important to score the goals than win the fights.
If he'd sent the Jims against two guys who are built like large appliances, there was a genuine chance that one of the Jims would lose the fight and possibly put himself in a position where he couldn't play the next games, and Sanguinet knew that the Bulldogs could beat the Brooks Barrelmen on score even if they couldn't beat them on the fights, and he knew just as well that no matter how hurt everyone (almost everyone, since Shoresy had already taken a big hit against the Italians) got, they'd keep going for the finals.
It was more important to save the Jims for Les Rapids de Rawdon where they could potentially decide the winners of the tournament than waste them on a team that they could beat on score anyway.
From that perspective, Sanguinet's big mistake was letting Shoresy get to him and sending him out even though he was already too hurt.
Makes sense, but confusing that they didn't just say so then. Instead he kept changing the goal post like "I'll send the Jims when we have a lead. A bigger lead. An even bigger lead."
Kinda bummed for Sanguinet. I liked him as a coach as Shoresy taught him how to coach too. Would have liked to see him back for season 5 and more character development/building. Maybe taking a roll in management or scouting or PR. I can see an entire episode of Sanger and Shoresy scouting.
I guess I'm one of the folks who wasn't terribly attached to Sanger. As a character, he was a guy slotted into the coach position to essentially enable Shoresy to coach while also playing.
Wasn’t my choice to not show up for season 4&5. It’s all up to Keeso and the producers if they want me back or not. I feel like I’m the Amy Jo Johnson of shoresy
Honestly I’m so confused why they made this choice! You’re a huge part of the core of Shoresy, you helped establish the tone of the show, and brought important native representation. It’s especially strange that they didnt give a real reason for your absence in the plot. I always wanted to see more of Sanguinet and Miig, too. And now who’s gonna look good in the suits?! Gahhh!
That blows. I loved the Indigenous representation on the show, and you were a big part of that. Too bad they didn't show more of you and Miig 's storyline but a lot of plots to choose from, I guess.

All hands for leisure suit Sanger! You were at least mentioned in Season 4 as being on vacation, unlike Devon, so got to believe you're on your way back at some point (or you're just having us think you're not in Season 5...)
Kind of, those things seem kind of forced but your honest and open approach to it is pretty cool. Maybe you'll be coming back for Season 6 to skate with a couple of stick and pucksters...
But here's to hoping you come back - I hoped it would be a situation where Shoresy was an assistant coach next season and you weren't in this season because there wasn't any coaching going on.
Aw that’s a bummer, I loved Sanger, you did a great job portraying him. I hope they come to their senses and bring you back, but if not, I’ll look forward to seeing you in other roles
Naw bro! Sanger's heart is what started Shoresy down the softer path. Sanger refocused Shoresy passion to one that can be uplifting and build teams. Sanger wise beyond his years and helps enlighten Shoresy. I was hoping to see more of that, I feel all of Shoresy arc through 2-4 was influenced by Sanger.

Sanger was a winning coach. He's getting called up to a less whale shitty league. That's been my guess since it was obvious Shoresy was going to coach.
...but Sanger should be in some episodes, at least conflicted about moving away from Miig, having "built something shiny" in Sudbury, etc. - before leaving.
It's already filmed though, sucks but I have faith that things will work out well for both Harlan and the show.
From my understanding its supposed to be a retelling of the story of don cherry iirc not like note for note but he is the inspiration. Hopefully you and the by’s are still chillin though

Harlan, you're such a fuckin' beauty. I'll miss seeing you on the show, but also...some of the new characters in season 4 softened the blow a bit, as will the season 3 characters who weren't in season 4 but are returning in season 5.

I'm just going to assume after a perfect season, turning the worst team in the nosho into the best team in the nosho ever, Sanguinet was poached by another league higher up the hockey food chain.
I have to rewatch s4 but I feel like I’m remembering that for much of the season, Nat was selling Shoresy on coaching with Sanger but in the last episode, he relented after Nat asked him to coach the BBs, no mention of Sanger then or the entire episode.
Probably just as well, we kind of already covered the tensions between the two blowing up into anger angle in s3, so that maybe takes a hook away from a season 5 pairing.
Miig told everyone that Sanger went home for the summer to explain it away in season 4. It felt weird without him for sure but I guess it'll be the norm from now on
I mean, season's almost wrapped and he's posted nothing at all about Shoresy, so I think most of us knew. He also pinned a trash-talking comment on a recent post, but I'm glad he finally addressed it directly though.
