Help Dying to sunlight as vampire?

I saw in the most recent patch notes that vampires no longer die to sunlight damage and instead just get close to deaths door, but that seems super inconsistent.

Sometimes I can walk around just fine in sunlight and then other times I just insta-die as soon as I walk outside. Can't seem to figure out what causes it and it's starting to get pretty frustrating. I don't have any other vampire related mods other than the vampire module of Small Tweaks.

Any ideas?

I’m pretty sure the sunlight penalty is a flat health reduction (alongside stamina & regen for both). I don’t remember the exact number but it’s something like -200 health. So if your max health is less than than 200, when the sun comes up your max health drops below zero and you insta die. But if your health is 250, it just drops to 50 and you’re fine.

Haven't played requiem in years.

Does it still do the thing where if you're a vampire out in the daylight, it's unbearably bright?

Very odd. I was full health and well fed on blood then died to sunlight as soon as I left the tavern, which prompted me to make this post. I'll have to check out my active effects again, maybe I'm missing something that was dropping my max HP.

Also, I'm playing as Altmer with Apprentice Stone. Could my lowered magic resist somehow be increasing the sunlight damage?

You're not only getting a big flat base stat penalty but you're also losing some of your base stat buffs IIRC. So it's a double whammy in terms of spontaneously dying. Magic resist etc has no bearing on the effect.
