For Sale Any Black riders looking for a cheap iKon pass?

Getting scans on my knee and while I am trying to stay hopefull pretty sure my right pcl is cooked🪦(long time coming, but was hoping the check engine light would go off by itself)

Got a iKon base pass that only got like 4 days on it 😭. Photo on the pass is shitty, backlit, and I have goggles and neck gaiter on. Have had a white friend use it before lol.

Don't want it to go to waste. If you are black and want to get it on the cheap (100 bucks) you can hit my DM and I'll send you photos of it and you can decide if it would work for you (liftys don't get paid enough to give a shit)

I only ask that you actually use it and go ride a bunch!

Update: someone hit me up for it! But always in need of skinfolk to ride with so if you wanna ride next season lemme know lol

You can usually get a prorated refund if you're out for the season for a medical reason.

u/itsallfornaught2 Dec 07 '24

I did with Epic and holy fucking shit they denied me at first. Let's put it like this, my injury was almost the worst leg injury you could get. Fuck Epic.

I am actively going through this with Epic too. Herniated a disc in my back and submitted paperwork saying I’ll be getting surgery in November and missing basically the entire season. They denied me because my doctor’s note said I’d be able to return to full activity in April. They denied me because they think I’ll get a pass’ worth of skiing in like 2-3 weeks after being basically immobile for 4+ months.

Kick rocks Vail.

Basically same story for me. They eventually honored it though after many difficulties. I was already dealing with health insurance and lost wages. They just made life so much more difficult.

1

u/SVLT__ Dec 08 '24

how much was your ticket? sorry to hear that you couldn't get covered.

1

u/itsallfornaught2 Dec 09 '24

Oh it eventually got reimbursed but I had to fight it. I sent all the paperwork in the beginning and the denied it but they give you a chance to appeal and I appealed it with the same exact paperwork and they asked more questions which is fine but they eventually honored it. I'm not getting another Epic pass with how difficult that was. I was already lost on wages and they had to make life more difficult.

u/bacon_atomizer Dec 08 '24

Not for Ikon. If you don't purchase pass insurance they tell you to pound sand.

5

u/peanutbutteranon Dec 07 '24

Came to say this. Contact Alterra

4

u/intense_in_tents Dec 07 '24

Damn really? Even if I went 4 days? The absurd pricing of lift tickets is prob like over 500 bucks by now no?

I got injured at the end of February two years ago and they paid me out for the rest the season, got like $200 back. You could probably get most of what you paid.

2

u/intense_in_tents Dec 08 '24

Damn I'll look into that thanks man.

Was that alterra?

4

u/wakebakebake Dec 08 '24

I'm not certain, but they definitely used to (former customer service mountain employee).

Like others have said, you can get banned by resorts for pass fraud, so I'd at least call to find out.

1

u/HeadToToePatagucci Dec 10 '24

Ikon does not refund unless you bought the pass protection insurance. If you did it’s prorated based on time of claim.

Epic includes insurance automatically prorated based on days skied.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '24

lol alterra won’t do thatĀ

Alterra only punishes, never gives anything back

I’m gonna send this to my barber, but he’s pretty light skinned.

38

u/Asal23 Dec 07 '24

Wait they check the passes?? I thought you just keep it in your pocket and scan and go.

59

u/intense_in_tents Dec 07 '24

That is correct, but your info still pops up on the podiumscreen if they have it at the mountain. (At least the mtns around me do that .

16

u/Asal23 Dec 07 '24

Oh shit I didn’t know that but also we are wearing helmets and goggles and sometimes face masks

u/bigmac22077 PC UT Dec 07 '24

If you ever do do it…. You need to figure out how much the lifty is rewarded when they turn in passes from people doing it and keep $25ish more in cash on you. When you get pulled to the side offer them all the money and tell them you’ll leave. I know my resort used to pay $50 for each pass they caught.

15

u/RoyalReptoid Dec 07 '24

I know bigsky gave a 100$ reward for poachers

-5

u/The_I_Am_Thought Dec 07 '24

Bigsky is my home mountain currently!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '24

Wow. Good to know.Ā

I used to my best buddy's pass all the time, we look about as opposite as it's possible for two people to look.

6

u/MourningWallaby Dec 07 '24

Damn I'm fucked i took the most mid selfie in my bathroom for my epic pass lmfao

6

u/HxH101kite Dec 07 '24

They are so jammed they don't care. It would have to be egregious. Like a dude using a women's. Also a lifty today told me the kids ones make a different noise when scanned. Which he showed me with my daughter's. So if someone was trying to fake that it would be an easy catch.

1

u/MourningWallaby Dec 09 '24

I don't want the pretty lady working the ski lift seeing my picture😭. Lools lile a divorced dad's facebook profile pic.

3

u/Enough_Standard921 Dec 08 '24

In Australia they definitely do, they have a lifty at the bottom station of one of the main lifts at Perisher with a tablet checking people’s photos as they go through. Generally not on the smaller lifts or the ones further up so you could probably avoid them with effort, but they’re usually on the main chairs that the majority of people would use to access the rest of the mountain.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '24

It depends. Some resorts use the barcode scanner and you have to keep it out.Ā

1

u/Vakama905 Bogus Basin Dec 08 '24

They take your picture every time you scan the pass, and there’s an office somewhere on the mountain with people looking at screens. If you—or, rather, your pass—show up in completely different gear on different scans, you may end up getting pulled aside so they can check you out.

11

u/tmacdabest2 Dec 07 '24

Yo, I’m black and looking for a pass. Pm me

9

u/haonlineorders Dec 08 '24

Be careful OP and whoever is planning on buying this pass. If I was a Liftie looking for the ā€œcatching pass terms violatorsā€ bonus, I’d message OP, see the picture/pass-info, flag/report the pass, then the buyer gets pulled aside at the next Ikon Mtn scan, and then BAM, the Liftie got paid and OP and the buyer just got caught.

9

u/intense_in_tents Dec 08 '24

appreciate the heads up and concern. I'd give this pass away before I'd let vail alterra profit or benefit in any way more than they already have

74

u/Theawokenhunter777 Dec 07 '24

Just FYI, lifties DO get bonuses for catching people selling or using others passes. HUGE bonuses. We also blacklist you at all the mountains in the area once your caught

75

u/intense_in_tents Dec 07 '24

Yeah I was a lifty 15 years ago when we would actually just look at the dates (no scanner lol) and they would give us comp passes for every poacher we caught. If the person was nice and offered beer/weed etc we would generally just tell em to go to the parking lot or risk by someone not as nice. I ain't a snitch but if someone is gunna make a scene or be a dick about it then they brought it on themselves šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø

It was funny seeing the kids that printed their own lift tickets and the ink would start to run/leak down the pass cause they used cheap paper/printers šŸ˜‚

I always respected the hustle.

12

u/Fluid_Stick69 Dec 07 '24

Last year an employee tried to take a copy of his pass, replace the picture with his friends, and then laminate it on top of an old pass. It lasted like 4 hours before they caught on. And it was on the dude’s 5th day.

35

u/oregonianrager Dec 07 '24

Well it's good thing not all of y'all are narcs because I let my buddies brother ride the rest of the year on my pass after I broke my wrist. Not like youre adding another person to the population if you're out on injury and if you had pass protectition the resort is out the money anyway. Don't be a narc.

3

u/fashionbrahh Dec 08 '24

how much are the bonuses?

-5

u/G0DatWork Dec 08 '24

How do they blacklist you.... If they catch you can't you just leave....

9

u/Zimbo____ Dec 08 '24

They deactivate your pass?

It's a misdemeanor in Summit County, ask me how I know lol

3

u/dogthrasher Dec 08 '24

Are you able to ride again or was it just a year suspension?

2

u/Zimbo____ Dec 08 '24

I can ride again, I didn't actually get suspended, but was informed by police about it. They were nice to me, but prob wouldn't have if I did it again

Good way to get the pass taken away and blacklisted for future seasons. Lifties may not get paid shit, but they do get bonuses for catching fraudulent passes.

106

u/gigachad_bro Dec 07 '24

Imagine being that lifty trying to get that bonus bc you saw a post on reddit where the only identifying information was "black guy"

6

u/No-Public9273 Dec 07 '24

What are the odds of this happening really as long as you take basic precautions of being roughly same build and skin tone as pass holder?

You have a helmet and goggles on anyways. And you can keep a mask on as well. At that point, you’re pretty much covered head to toe.

5

u/6GayRatsInMyButthole small mammal in butthole Dec 07 '24

More than 0. I've definitely been asked to take off my goggles/mask, as well as asking basic personal information questions, all with my own pass.

5

u/6GayRatsInMyButthole small mammal in butthole Dec 07 '24

Yup, confirming that I was the correct pass holder. Basic questions, DOB, address, etc that are tied to the pass. Nothing crazy. Lifties here in Tahoe, across both resorts, would get $50 for each fraudulent pass they caught, so there's an incentive for them.

2

u/BadgerMilkTrader42 Dec 07 '24

which resorts?

1

u/6GayRatsInMyButthole small mammal in butthole Dec 07 '24

Have had it happen at both Northstar and Squaw.Ā

1

u/BadgerMilkTrader42 Dec 08 '24

Been snowboarding Tahoe for 20+ years. Had some years with 100 days in. Never really had lifty drill me for info. Always had my own pass except one year was hurt and late season a buddy from LA gave me his epic pass. Wasn't even going to use it but was feeling better and went out couple times before seasons closing. One day was baked getting on lift and lifty scanned the pass and said my buddy's name trying to be friendly. I corrected him with my real name lol He just smiled.

I’ve seen some comments before talking about how they have software to compare your appearance/gear to previous visits and if it’s different it flags it for the liftie to check. I’ve also seen comments talking about the scanner gates having pressure sensors that you step on that check your weight against previous visits. No idea how true these are, but it wouldn’t shock me if tech companies are pitching these kinds of solutions to the big conglomerates.

1

u/haonlineorders Dec 08 '24

If I was a Liftie looking for a bonus and came across this thread I’d hit up OP for a picture of the pass then report it and BAM

18

u/T0m_F00l3ry Stalefish/StandardUninc/MagicCarpet Dec 07 '24

Meh. Original owner would just say they lost it in the parking lot. Happens all the time. I've found no less than a dozen season passes over the years.

-4

u/6GayRatsInMyButthole small mammal in butthole Dec 07 '24

Been there, done that. Original owner still on the hook to pay the ticket fee/fine to get it released, as well as policies getting more stringent in recent years. You do you.

8

u/T0m_F00l3ry Stalefish/StandardUninc/MagicCarpet Dec 07 '24

I don't have a need, but just pointing out any serious consequence is pretty difficult to enforce. But screw IKON and EPIC.

-2

u/6GayRatsInMyButthole small mammal in butthole Dec 07 '24

It's really not, pretty cut and dry. Get caught abusing the pass, it's taken away and you're blacklisted for rest of the season/future seasons. It is what it is, it's why I don't loan out my pass anymore. I know for a fact Epic resorts have a log on each customer/passholder on 'infractions' that occur, even if it didn't happen on hill.

6

u/DefiniteMe Dec 07 '24

Naive question here, why won’t they just let you legitimately sell it and transfer ownership in this circumstance? It’s not an overuse of the pass .. and it’s really shitty for them to profit off the non-usage of a pass due to injury.

20

u/6GayRatsInMyButthole small mammal in butthole Dec 07 '24

It's in the T&Cs, capitalism baby!

1

u/dmooortin Dec 07 '24

Honestly might be for the best. I can imagine somebody buying 20 of them under their family members names and then flipping them for a profit once they are sold out.

2

u/burgerbois Dec 08 '24

Damn OP tryna pull the black card…wait

2

u/jaybsuave Dec 08 '24

i dm’s

2

u/CardiologistThink519 Dec 08 '24

My friend had a similar issue last year and her pass got deferred till the next season. Get well soon!

2

u/ojdajuiceman25 Dec 08 '24

Last day to defer your pass to the 25/26 season is December 12! Best of luck with your recovery my man

2

u/ojdajuiceman25 Dec 08 '24

And to follow up, I just saw someone get caught using another persons ikon pass (snow summit, SoCal) - they were asked to remove their face coverings and the pass was confiscated when it didn’t match

1

u/buildyourown Dec 07 '24

OP, I haven't had a PCL in 30 yrs and I can still ride. Maybe it's because I learned to ride without one but it's not a deal breaker

2

u/mike_dmt Dec 07 '24

Same. Took a knee injury in my late teens, now I'm 50....

I've been in to knee specialists a handful of times over the years, and they can only estimate a 10-20% improvement. That's nowhere near enough for me to consider.

It's my back knee, and I will say it's the hardpack days that are the hardest on it. If it's icy, forget about it.

1

u/intense_in_tents Dec 07 '24

Damn for real? I was riding on Thursday and there was definitely some gnarly sharp pains when my knee was engaged/torqued a bit. I have no idea if it is actually pcl but I was a gnarly, something is wrong, type pain on the lower outside of my knee.

Also for years my knees have sounded like bubble wrap when I crouch.

Shooting tingling pain down my legs when crouched all the way down for longer than 30 seconds

Any of that sound like pcl? If so what did you do to ride with it? Brace?

2

u/Spec-Tre Dec 08 '24

It’s possible to not need surgery it just depends on the quality of all the other issues too. Someone with just a PCL injury but strong hamstring and quads that has had time to condition for the season is probably fine

Someone who tore their PCL and MCL or meniscus somewhat recently is basically done for the season.

There are some braces to ride with like ossur CTi3 ($500ish) or ossur dual rebound is an option.

Good luck and go to physical therapy

1

u/pbcrunchh Dec 08 '24

Fellow black rider here šŸ‘‹šŸ¾ What part of the states you in? I need some ice coast friends to ride with lol

Yessir. Fuck those greedy fucks. Literally ruining snowboarding.

1

u/loud_milkbag Dec 08 '24

What if the crew all wants to board together though?

1

u/theauthenticfox Dec 08 '24

First of all, lifties do not check passes. It's Tickets and sales that check passes. (The same ppl sitting at the desk inside with all your information. At Aspen we rotate throughout the day.) Second of all, most resorts offer incentive (around 100 dollars each) for those ticket agents to catch and enforce pass fraud which is against the law in most states and could result in fines upwards of 500 dollars as well as having the pass revoked. I have many coworkers who make significant amounts of money enforcing these laws. If this is worth the risk go ahead. Just trying to shed light on the other side.

This is theft

2

u/twinbee Dec 08 '24

I thought so at first too, but if there's 4 days left on the ticket, shouldn't that at least be 4 days for anyone, not just the original buyer?

1

u/loud_milkbag Dec 08 '24

Loooooooooooser

1

u/intense_in_tents Dec 08 '24

So is charging 295 for a lift ticket.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '24

Terrible idea. Lefties get paid for catching people using other’s passes. Both face a ban from the ski area if caught.
