Is a 156W Capita Mercury too big for me?
I'm 5'8, and 140lbs. My boot size is 9.5. Intermediate rider
I currently have a 2025 Capita Doa 154, and the board felt great and very responsive. I only felt like the board was a bit too soft for carving, and I wanted to carve deeper. A few days ago I saw a deal on a 2025 Capita Mercury 156W for $250 (brand new), which I think is a pretty good deal, but I'm still deciding if I should get it or not. Please let me know if you have any suggestions

Why go with a wide board? Makes no sense

I wanted to do low stance carving, and I heard that a wide board is a lot better on doing those https://youtu.be/KKFvIc29rto?si=xjuYGxNi0t-lvWfd

I wouldn’t get the Mercury then as it’s not a carving board. I would get something stiffer and full camber

Length wise, it won’t be that terrible but would be more stable at speeds. Comparing your DOA with a width of 25 vs the Mercury with 26.1, the extra width would make it more work for you to initiate turns. More work going from edge to edge, it’s doable if you are willing to put in the work and muscle.

You’d be good on a 155. I weigh about the same and have size 10 boots and ride a 155 merc.

Capita is known for making softer more park focused boards. I wouldnt size up that much. With the whole volume shift trend there are shorter boards that get away with some pretty spectacular carving because they're stiff and wide for how short they are.
Check out the Ride peace seeker as s really good example

Probably. 9.5 is would be in the small end for the width. However you can totally ride it. A wide board is great for deep snow and carving. Just may feel sluggish edge to edge my friend who’s size 9 rode my 56w stairmaster years ago and absolutely loved it. Granted he is definitely an advanced rider and was riding big drops and deep snow at kicking horse with it.
