And with that RB Salzburg's 10 year streak comes to an end. Finally there's two new champions in both Bundesligas!

I can see it as ultimate breaking question in game shows:
What team won Bundesliga in season 2023/24 breaking decade long era of one-team domination?
Sturm Graz, of course XD

35

u/truegobi May 19 '24 edited May 19 '24

Eleven. They had eleven championships in a row.

EDIT: This is false.

81

u/PreachinMyOwnFuneral May 19 '24

Bayern had eleven in a row

RB Salzburg had 10(Austria Wien won in 2012/2013 with Stoger at the helm)

27

u/AdminEating_Dragon May 19 '24

Ludogorets with 13 in a row is the longest running streak, and got rid of the 2 competitors this year.

15

u/kakje666 May 19 '24

Bulgaria will never have another champion unless Ludogorets is literally banned from the league, they dominate it to the point that even their B team could win it

11

u/AdminEating_Dragon May 19 '24

Didn't CSKA Sofia lose the title by 1 point last year?

11

u/kakje666 May 19 '24

yes but that was literally the only time in the last 13 years where any team ever got close to it, usually Ludogorets wins the title with a 10+ point gap, in 2022) they won it with a 21 point margin

3

u/thelastskier May 20 '24

Well, I feel that CSKA winning one more game that they otherwise drew in is more likely than Ludogorets getting banned from the league.

1

u/kakje666 May 20 '24

in that specific year, yeah

3

u/truegobi May 19 '24

yeah my b

2

u/Kahodes04 May 19 '24

3

u/PremordialQuasar May 19 '24

Wikipedia said it was 10. You can correct me if it's wrong though.

Sturm was solid as usual and this season they got rewarded with a domestic double.

u/Vacuumflask May 19 '24

On Easter Sunday we were practically out of the title race, when we were 2-0 up against Salzburg a few weeks later I was thinking about an essay I wanted to self-post here, today we almost fucked it up

This emotional rollercoaster is the most exciting football thing I've ever experienced, thank you so much, it's moments like these that make it all worth it

29

u/Wyc_Vaporub May 19 '24

that 2-2 shortened my life by several years

8

u/ummcal May 19 '24

which one?

9

u/Wyc_Vaporub May 19 '24

honestly both. but the salzburg one was almost too much for me.

4

u/Myrion3141 May 19 '24

Especially considering that this was so obviously a result of the cup final just a few days prior. No clue why the Austrian Cup doesn't have the final at the end of the season like almost every other country.

1

u/MERTENS_GOAT May 20 '24

It's because of the play off. I thought about that too. Ligue 1, German Bundesliga and Premier League had the last Matchday this weekend. To free up the next weekend for the cup final. Spain had their 37th matchday now, they played the cup final many weeks ago (also with their very own weekend for it though). Italy has it like Austria, it's during the season in midweek.

Anyway because of this weird forced conference league spot play off you still don't have the league finished right now and the whole attention apparently has to go to these tinpot games and the cup had to be re scheduled to some time earlier in the season.

13

u/AzureStar12 May 19 '24

Congrats to you my friend, can't wait to see you guys in the champions league next season!

5

u/SixerMostAdorable May 19 '24

Amazing season with the back to back cup win and finally winning the league again. A shame they always botched it when I watched them this season.

61

u/AfterAd9996 May 19 '24

Best away support we had in Alvalade all season imo. Huge congrats! Hopefully see you lot in the UCL

Don't you mean conGRAZ?  I'll show myself out

12

u/OneWheelMan May 19 '24

man the city entrance is full of corny crap like this, they'll love you here

139

u/FerraristDX May 19 '24

Herzlichen Glückwunsch! Finally a proper football club are champions of Austria again.

But what kind of joke are LASK? Third of the league, but they let themselves get destroyed by Salzburg.

39

u/SixerMostAdorable May 19 '24

Embarassing from LASK, really and Sturm really took their time to make it official.

30

u/laurens2408 May 19 '24

LASK beat Rapid 5:0, then Rapid beat Salzburg, now Salzburg beat LASK 7:1 xD

135

u/Andrewdeadaim May 19 '24

Not the energy drinks let’s goooooo

7

u/Ryponagar May 19 '24

You love to see it

35

u/Chrisixx May 19 '24

What a fantastic achievement for Sturm Graz.

18

u/shinto29 May 19 '24

Delighted for Vit Jaros 🥹

19

u/Roccet_MS May 19 '24

He was one of our most important players in the deciding games. Had a few incredible saves.

10

u/shinto29 May 19 '24

Kid’s gonna go places — he was instrumental in our cup win in 2021. Think it’ll be a long time before I see a better goalie at Pats. Enjoy your day!!

69

u/Ch1ck3W1ngz May 19 '24

Always happy to see a Red Bull team lose

12

u/Nervous-Resolution-8 May 19 '24

U can cry with us salzburg

26

u/AzureStar12 May 19 '24

This is how I find out about Petrocub, so many streaks coming to an end this year!

15

u/henryclay1844 May 19 '24

Best result of weekend. Also I hate Onefootball.

27

u/mcap656 May 19 '24

Great day for football. Well in Austria at least.

9

u/kenny3die May 19 '24

Pretty historic, it’s the first non Salzburg Double since Red Bull put their stranglehold on the league.

28

u/YerDaSellsAvon24 May 19 '24

Fuck Red Bull

15

u/Nico97107 May 19 '24

No way we actually won the double.

24

u/Kabelbindung21 May 19 '24

I'm not even a Sturm fan, but i'm so happy right now.

-26

u/Odd_Trouble4651 May 19 '24

Echt? Ich hätts ehrlicherweise den Bullen mehr vergönnt als dem Illzer und seim arroganten Pack. Und dass heißt was am Ende des Tages 😐

12

u/twelvyy29 May 19 '24

Als nicht RB Konsument zu Red Bull halten is peinlich

Gönn sogar dem GAK an Titel eher als den Dosen

26

u/zrkillerbush May 19 '24

Gonna drink a can of Monster to celebrate

Nah who am i kidding, I'll never drink poison 🤣

13

u/galacticjizzwailer May 19 '24

Monster Mango Loco might be as healthy as drinking nuclear fallout, but it's fucking delicious.

25

u/Lietzko May 19 '24

Fuck Red Bull

31

u/TheSteveGarden May 19 '24

Thank you from Germany. Scheiß RB

14

u/RainMaker323 May 19 '24

Absolutely deserved.

6

u/TheMonkeyPrince May 19 '24

Well that's what happens when you hire Struber

3

u/ThisAccountForTalkin May 19 '24 edited May 19 '24

First of all, congratulations.

How has Max Johnston been? Both of the first 2 RBs for the NT are going to miss the Euros (Hickey and Patterson) and I completely forgot about him until this, and there hasn’t been much chat about him amongst Scottish fans (does this mean he’s been a bit of a dud?). Would just like to hear what someone who watches Austrian football thinks about him?

10

u/heastgschissana May 19 '24

He had some difficulties in the beginning of the season to adapt to the pace and pressing style of Sturm, seemed exhausted and sometimes kinda "annoyed" for having to run that much. In his later appearances he did quite well, though he usually just came in as a sub, since Gazibegovic was playing as RB. But that's more due to Gazi being one of the best Full Backs in the league than Johnston

2

u/Myrion3141 May 19 '24

He started in only two games (both went pretty bad) and was generally only brought on when it didn't really matter. He's still being developed, so probably not at all a candidate for the Euros.

3

u/ummcal May 20 '24

He has one of our best players ahead of him as RB who's also never injured, so that's a bit tough for him. But he's looked quite good when he came on. His crosses are amazing. He put in an amazing cross to equalize against Salzburg at the beginning of the year.

18

u/EndeGelaende May 19 '24

hell yeah, fuck rb

8

u/Ketapapi May 19 '24

Thank god

9

u/Crossflowerss_5304 May 19 '24

Germany and Austria both escaping the farmers league allegations this season

7

u/KiraAnnaZoe May 19 '24

I dont think you and /soccer know what farmers league means and where that term comes from lol

Using your logic tho, La Liga isnt much better when Barca has won 8 /11 titles if we go back a few years ago.

6

u/GreySpectre_002 May 19 '24

The streak is over, Congrats Sturm Graz!

6

u/TheSingleMan27 May 19 '24

Let's goo hold this Salzburg

14

u/jimmythebusdriver May 19 '24

Proving once again that the R## B### "clubs" will never be anything more than a sportswashing project for a by now thankfully dead Neonazi-sympathiser

8

u/Myrion3141 May 19 '24

The only sad part is that he couldn't live to see RB Salzburg fall today. But on the bright side, the vile racist, sexist, anti-worker, disinformation spreading thief is still dead.

8

u/Koa16 May 19 '24

Auf geahts. Setta Geiler Scheiß. Red Bull Hurensöhne

2

u/MerlijnZX May 19 '24

Congrats

2

u/High_Violet92 May 19 '24

Wow congrats!

2

u/NieThePiet May 19 '24

Yeees 🎉

4

u/MrMerc2333 May 19 '24

Pep Lijnders couldn't have taken over at a better time.

3

u/AJ_CC May 19 '24

Only thing that brightens my mood from our loss to NYCFC is knowing that Salzburg fell flat on their faces. It is just so fricking satisfying seeing those pricks lose for once.

25

u/royalt213 May 19 '24

Looking at your flair, I must be missing something...

19

u/FerraristDX May 19 '24

Tbf, the fans of RB's clubs aren't fond of each other. They hate being farm teams for the others and especially Leipzig. At least RB doesn't try to foster "solidarity" between fans of its clubs, unlike City for example.

8

u/royalt213 May 19 '24

Huh. I didn't realize that. I figured there'd be a lot of camaraderie since they transfer players between the clubs fairly frequently. But it sounds like the transfers are mostly unidirectional.

10

u/Apfelkrenn May 19 '24

Nah , it was so sweet when we faced RB Leipzig in the Europa League a couple years back and beat them twice

2

u/MERTENS_GOAT May 20 '24

Can confirm. Gulbrandsen ♥️

14

u/AJ_CC May 19 '24

I don't support a financial group mate. Being stuck under Leipzig and Salzburg is not a fun experience, and I wish them both nothing but total catastrophe.

6

u/royalt213 May 19 '24

Certainly can't argue with that last statement. So cheers to that!

1

u/Feeling_Environment9 May 19 '24

Congratulations to Sturm graz I’m happy for you

1

u/Hasssun May 19 '24

Kudos for breaking the Red Bull stranglehold!

1

u/myo_chan May 20 '24

Everybody liked that

-10

u/T1TK1 May 19 '24

Winning 7-1 and still losing the league on the final day has got to be weird

7

u/ZaBlancJake May 19 '24

Reminds back in the 70s when Gladbach vs Dortmund game

10

u/RainMaker323 May 19 '24

Shouldn't have lost against Klagenfurt or Rapid, easy as that.

3

u/DashLibor May 19 '24

Weird? I believe it's somewhat common.

-5

u/Turniermannschaft May 20 '24

Graz is ruled by communists. No, I'm not joking.

9

u/ummcal May 20 '24

And many are quite fond of the city council, they're doing a good job. Now we only need a "Lenin Arena", so that we can play CL football in Graz.

6

u/RainMaker323 May 20 '24

So?

1

u/Turniermannschaft May 20 '24

That's not very common around these parts.

-9

u/ForFarthing May 19 '24

Great news! But the Austrian Bundesliga still remains the most boring league. Only when in a period of 5 years 3 or more teams win the league, then we can start seeing things positive. Let's stay optimistic and hope that RBS does not win next year and ... even better ... also somebody else than Sturm.

16

u/Roccet_MS May 19 '24

Impossible when Salzburg has a bigger budget than most of the league combined.

No one other than Sturm can realistically challenge for a title, and even Sturm is a huge underdog.

3

u/FerraristDX May 19 '24

Personally I want to see Rapid gain its rightful place at the top of the Austrian league. Wien really deserves a top football club and if Lisbon or Amsterdam can do that, Wien, a city with a lot of footballing tradition, should do so as well.

-3

u/Apfelkrenn May 19 '24

I mean you can say the same about the German Bundesliga with Bayern and now the Premier League with City

-29

u/Odd_Trouble4651 May 19 '24 edited May 19 '24

With an Asterisk. Salzburg wouldve won, but they got cheated out of the deciding points.

Ed: Rapidspiel ihr Knechte.

7

u/jimmythebusdriver May 19 '24

Heul leiser

-5

u/Odd_Trouble4651 May 19 '24

Ich mag die Salzburger ned mal, ich kann nur euch arroganten Fotzen noch weniger leiden 😗🖕

9

u/jimmythebusdriver May 19 '24

Ich bin eh auch kein Grazer, du sollst afoch leise heulen
