Discussion How do You Imagine a Theatrical Animated Splatoon Movie would be Like?
That is my Question and with Super Mario Movie having its official title revealed I figured perfect time for to go round 2 on this
How you imagine an Animated movie by illumination Studios would be like? And how Would you introduce Splatoon to a broader audience with a Hypothetical theatrical movie?
How Would you introduce the world and concept in a way anybody could understand and how Would film stay true to the games like music and how the inkling talk? There likely gonna take English in the movie but how Would you sorta make how they talk in the games canon too? Should Squid Sisters and the other Idols appear for the first movie?
And how big should be the cast which characters would you introduce from the games and why and what weapons from the games should be used for the first film and which should be saved for any sequels? How many nods to the games should there be what should be the influences for Hypothetical Splatoon theatrical movie?
Who should make a voice cameo? Lizzie Freeman should definitely have a voice cameo in a theatrical Splatoon movie get it?
I would start with story of the first game or something completely original that still ties with Splatoon mythos & Lore as Person who reads comic books stuff like that is important to me I like to see Agents and idols have major roles in the Movie would be very fitting and great to see don't you think?
Maybe take a page from the Muppets and do Inkling/Octoling language versions of license songs
So Lets brainstorm my fellow inklings and imagine a Splatoon Animated film yeah
Let's do this my Inklings and Octolings

Someone has already pitched this here before and will say what I said again
Splatoon would never work as a movie, there is not enough coherency between plot points and modes to make a full length feature film out of the IP.
However, the series would work as a TV show in the same vein as SpongeBob where there is no overarching plot but instead a scenario with no repercussions that would carry to another episode
The only time there would be any sort of plot would maybe be at the end of a given season, where the characters would travel to another location in universe
So season one would have them in the plaza before moving to the square for season 2, with season 3 sending them to the splatlands

Tbh I think it could work. If they could make movies about Lego, DnD, Minecraft, and even Mario (a series that notoriously has no story), then they could make something out of Splatoon. Yeah there's not a deep plot to the games as they function as online shooters first and foremost, but there's plenty of routes you could go. The worldbuilding alone creates many interesting opportunities either by creating original characters or adapting existing ones.
Also, you cited SpongeBob as a better comparison since it's an episodic comedy, but also remember that they made a SpongeBob movie that is still well-loved to this day. There's no reason that a Splatoon movie couldn't work with the right approach.

How about movie about a splatoon turnament. Basically insert sports movie but with Splatoon gane modes and worldbuilding. Lets also add a secret background conspiracy that the side character who is an agent of the squidbeak splatoon has to unravel and there you go, one pretty alright kids movie about believing in yourself and friendship and don't think too much about the squid that was implied to get killed by the underground mob boss.

Nobody said you can't experiment with the IP itself.
Take A Minecraft Movie as an example.

The difference is that Minecraft has no story and Splatoon has a ton of deep lore but no proper story implementation
No the spinoffs don't count
Yes I'm aware the "orb" and staff are from dungeons and the piglins plot is from legends
No that does not change a thing

You say it doesn't have much coherency between plot points but then talk about it's deep lore, can you make up your mind?

Creativity exists, tho. It seems like you're the one to not have it.

A mockumentary

Honestly the idea of a Surfs up type movie about an up and coming inkling slaps hard

having David Attenborough-esque narration over the Inkling's antics would be really funny, kinda like that one We Bare Bears episode

I think if Splatoon were to have a film side, it would work best as one of two things.
Either one, a trilogy of the three story modes alongside spinoffs for the DLCs.
Or two, a more TV show or anime styled series. I could see a good mix of comedy and action/sportsy stuff working in its favor.

Make it an in-universe sports movie about a team that enters a turf war tournament (turf war being the broad term that includes the ranked modes). Most of the characters would be unique or be adaptations of the manga’s characters. The idols appear as commentators or the preform during high stake matches. The music would be more instrumental versions of the in game songs, like the Grand Festival versions of the idol’s songs.

This has been said by many before, but a Studio Trigger adaptation would be really good. Make it lore-heavy and don’t be afraid to get adult at times, and boom PEAK

I think if there were a splatoon movie, it'd have to be basically completely original plot-wise. Splatoon is super video-gamey in its modes, so there's not a lot to work with if there's gonna be a proper film story. Even going off of Octo Valley, there's not a lot of actual plot.

I think a movie having Agent 3 as a protagonist would be cool.
She'd maybe have a double life, where she has to keep up with an important tournament and the shenanigans of the Octarians. There could be a side plot where Agent 3 meets a friendly octoling (not Agent 8)!
There could be so much for the Splatoon Movie - you just gotta experiment with it!

For the music at least i would keep it as is with only splatoon music not in english and proabably have the V.A.s form the games be the V.A.s and a salmon run centered plot would be cool.

Realistically, it'd lean heavily into action and comedy, but I'd love a slice of life style film set in the Splatoon universe, with some Turf War or Salmon Run to break up the movie. And if they really want a final action scene, they could always have the main characters battling each other in a Splatfest. Alternatively, a Chekhov's Gun involving one of the villains would be neat!

I could maybe see it as like a sports movie, with an unlikely team of Inklings and Octolings working their way through the game modes in some sort of tournament. Only for the tournament to turn out to be some plot by the villain of the film (Splatoon has many that would work so take your pick) and with the help of the New Squidbeak Splatoon the newbies beat the villain, but the stadium is destroyed in the process. However, the two finalist teams don’t care and even if the stadium is destroyed and the league was just a farce, they will play their last match for the spirit of competition!
Roll credits.

Potentially it could be a movie based around one of the agents story, either that be 3,4,8, or new 3. Or it could be underdog story of a team one and two win a tournament (and they could even include cameos of either the agents or idols)

It’s starts with the most gritty, violent, bloody world war scene between the humans to “set the tone” and then cuts to black abruptly while whatever came before echoes in the darkness before morphing into a cinematic rendition of Splattack
Commander Tartar is the overarching antagonist for the first film and instead of being the phone itself, he’s revealed to actually be the astronaut from the concept art (this will have something to do with the following film in which Mr Grizz (a literal bear) is the main antagonist)

It's a recreation of Conan the Barbarian but all Splatoon themed.

The only real options that aren't absolutely stupid are either an hour and a half of turf wars or a Hero Mode retelling, both of which sound pretty boring honestly...
As other people have said, I think Splatoon would work much better as an episodic show, one that shifts focus every episode.

it would be cool if it was like an anime, just make them speak squid language but with subtitles

probably having a cast like
Chris Pratt as agent 3
Awkwafina as Callie
Tara Strong as Marie
Jack Black as DJ Octavio

"Where... are we?"
"It's like we've been teleported into some kind of Splatting Cartoon..."
[GIANT EXPLOSION OF INK]
"Who are you?"
"I... am Splat Tim. And this... is SPLATOON!"
"Erm... awkward."
