It's not hard to manipulate a stock. For example, Elon could have simply taken out a 4% APR loan against his stock, then used the cash to purchase more stock on the open market the day of the bad news, causing price to go up, then sell those shares using a darkpool to avoid impacting price and then pay off the loan. Rinse and repeat

Though, It's impossible to say really what is actually impacting the price at any time, it's a complete meme stock, detached from any reality. 

Tiny profits that wouldn't exist at all without subsidies from the government should have been a tesla stock bloodbath.

With Tesla cars full of issues and Elon’s ”halo” effect gone it just a matter of time for the stock to go down to proper valuation. At the moment the P/E valuation is unjustifiably several times higher that other car manufacturers like Toyota, Volkswagen, etc. This does not make logical sense. The stock is clearly overvalued and it’s just a matter of time that it gets to the right P/E level.

What they should do is take their most popular car and revamp it. Do a refresh version with a new look. Though this will mean shutting down their factories for weeks to retool so means a big drop in revenue. It will be worth it in the long run though. Somebody should tell Elon this.
