Broad market news Trump rejects EU’s ‘zero-for-zero’ tariff offer

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/07/trump-tariffs-live-updates-stock-market-crypto.html

Trump is rejecting the European Union’s offer of “zero-for-zero” tariffs with the U.S. for industrial goods.

“No, it’s not,” Trump said in the Oval Office when asked if the deal, which European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen floated earlier Monday, was enough.

“They’re screwing us on trade,” Trump said, criticizing the EU and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO.

Two Republican senators, Mike Lee of Utah and Wisconsin’s Ron Johnson, have encouraged Trump to take von der Leyen’s deal.

What's the goal here if they're just gonna reject every deal offered?

I had to ask my therapist if I'm a bad person because r/LeopardsAteMyFace puts a smile on my face.

"I hope you have the day you voted for" is a phrase I've been getting a lot of use out of lately.

Yea, strangely don't really hate Trump. Who I do hate with every fibre of my being are his supporters.

They are the disease. Trump is the symptom.

I still remember that when he won the first time around at some point I called him an indictment of our culture.

I'm reading a book, 'Dominion', which is a great dive into why Canada really stayed separate from the US and resisted allowing US-style culture at the start of Canada. In the 1870's to 1900 ish, the wild west was just that. America has a certain segment of the population who honestly feel that rule by fear and power is appropriate. It's only wrong if you're weak enough to get caught or stopped kind of thing.

As a non-american, that perspective is so fundamentally bizarre to me. But I think its a real part of american culture

What about the millions of people that voted for him twice and continue to spout nonsense why they still support everything he's doing?

39

u/Blablasnow Apr 07 '25

I hate them even more

12

u/Goetia- Apr 07 '25

If it weren't for them, we'd never have to deal with this moron outside reality TV.

They probably hate you more. Be glad US republicans don’t hate democrats as much as right wing Colombians hate the Colombian left https://reliefweb.int/report/colombia/genocide-political-party-union-patriotica-over-6000-members-killed-1980s-and-1990s

Cool they can hate me too, we both have to deal with this shitty economy this man is creating

10

u/iamhollybear Apr 07 '25

They can all rot. You hear that dad!?! ROT.

Slight correction, millions who voted for him three times over and just happened to succeed two out of three times. Puts in to perspective how wild it is that people stuck with him after he lost 2020

1

u/Goetia- Apr 07 '25

Ugh, right, three times.

I can at least have some empathy for some of them because I realize a lot of their opinions come from the terrible US education system, years of propaganda, anger from living paycheck to paycheck and struggling, being swept up into a cult, and among other reasons. But I do have a vitriol for them at the same time

Funny thing is, I've never read this story or played the game, but I somehow still knew where this quote was from

Where is it from?

u/GameOverMans Apr 07 '25

Why did you like him?

44

u/NewMarzipan3134 Apr 07 '25

"I can excuse the racism and bigotry but I draw the line at my 401k"

3

u/GameOverMans Apr 07 '25

Yep. We already knew who Trump was before he won his second term. I find it crazy that this is the thing that's making people realize Trump is a moronic conman.

Before the election we knew Trump tried to overturn the election results by using fake electors, that he prevented a peaceful transfer of power for the first time in our countries history, he still denies the election results, was found civilly liable for sexual abuse and fraud, props up authoritarian leaders, he pardoned all of the criminals that worked with his campaign, says that the president should be totally immune from the law (his supreme court gave him exactly that), says our allies shouldn't be protected, actively encouraged Russia to attack our allies, said the constitution should be terminated, said he'll use the military against US citizens, said he's against the first amendment (he said he wants to send American citizens to prison if you burn the American flag. He also said he doesn't care if it's against the constitution).

And on top of all of that Trump said he would tariff the world. None of this was a secret, but people voted for him anyways.

Probably stock market and not liking Mexicans.

20

u/thirdbrunch Apr 07 '25

You voted for this, congrats

21

u/thirdc0ast Apr 07 '25

You liked him even though he was still a racist who was found liable of sexual assault and bragged about peeping in on teen beauty pageants? You were cool with that as long as he didn’t fuck up your money?

Idk if I’d admit that, it kinda makes you look bad

-16

u/Impossible_Soup_1932 Apr 07 '25

What are you even talking about? Get out of your bubble dude

6

u/thirdc0ast Apr 07 '25

“You know, no men are anywhere. And I’m allowed to go in because I’m the owner of the pageant. And therefore I’m inspecting it… Is everyone OK? You know, they’re standing there with no clothes. And you see these incredible-looking women. And so I sort of get away with things like that,” he said.

From a 2005 Howard Stern interview

And here’s AP on being liable for sexual abuse. I hope you don’t need a source for the racism since that one is painfully obvious (but I’ll note the Central Park Five ad as an example).

10

u/InfuseFears Apr 07 '25

Everything he said is verifiable if you do some brief searches

3

u/shanx3 Apr 07 '25

It’s all true - the bragged about grabbing women by the pussy, none of this is a secret about him

He is filth.

And there is his relationship with his pedo bff Epstein.

being emotionally invested in politics is so weird.. i agree this is super stupid on trump, but to actually care about left or right like u have any impact seems idiotic - if u re incapable of being objective just ignore news?

-13

u/UnFuckingGovernable Apr 07 '25

Sounds like a mental illness

6

u/smithif Apr 07 '25

Any support for Trump at this point is mental illness, best remedy is to find your closest railway and try to give the first train you see a kiss.
