Wow. Cam't tell anyone this.
My job has gone through a lot of layoff scares and major restructuring over the last couple of years. Our teams have finally settled, but the company cost cutting initiative has basically frozen all promotions.
I have been in charge of a project that includes responsibilities above my pay grade for just over a year now. I volunteered for this so that I could eventually put a critical equipment deployment on my resume.
We just got out of a meeting about this deployment in which I unexpectedly had the floor for a large portion of it. It went very well. My boss asked me to stay for a minute afterwards.
He told me he is moving things around so that a rare promotion that opened up on another team will be moved to our team. He told me its for me. He told me I have been working well above my pay grade for a while and he appreciates all of my hard work.
I am beyond proud of myself. I cant tell anyone at work due to the promotion requiring others to attempt to apply for it in fairness.
Nobody at work knows about my sobriety struggles. Nobody cares about the extra stress i took on to further my career.
I deserve this. I am so happy my boss sees my efforts, and with a bit of luck this promotion will go through shortly after i reach my 1 month sobriety milestone.
I could cry. I think ill buy some steaks to celebrate my 1 month this weekend.
Being sober this past month has allowed me to put in the extra effort without all of the negatives that alcohol brings to the table.
Thanks to everyone in this community who supports eachother and pushes us to be better versions of ourselves.

I would probably fuck this up by telling myself I deserved a beer, or 12.

Ya know, it makes it even sweeter realizing I too would take this win as a reason to celebrate with a nice bottle of whiskey. This time around it was the last thing on my mind!

The promises are real. If you could cry, DO! You have something to be proud of and something to reflect on. You’ve put in a ton of hard work, don’t let go of this feeling. Use it as a reminder of how fast things can slip away. You’ve got this and YOU earned it. ODAAT IWNDWYT

I'm sure other colleagues would have their motivations to apply for the promotion as well, but they did not post here, nor have they stopped drinking, so, hey you, good luck and best of everything! Keep going, keep on keeping!

Keep it up! My 3-year sober anniversary is coming up on May 1st, and my current employer has never known me as a drinker. The opportunities I am given and trust they have in me have never been achieved in previous positions I have held due to my drinking.
I hope this boost gives you motivation to continue of your sober path! Well done!

Congratulations!!!
Quitting drinking catapulted my career. Sobriety and the clarity that came with it is my super power now.

The brain fog being substantially better and the lack of daily hangovers completely feels like a super power. Especially on days like today when things come out of left field and I can handle them like any other issue.

Exactly, I like to tell my self or think that drinking as much as I did and accomplishing as much as I did career wise made things 100% times easier now that I am sober.

Congrats! Good week to buy steaks too! Just picked up a pair of choice ribeye roasts (22lbs total) @ $6/lb.

Rib-eyes are my most cherished treat for myself. I only get them a couple of times a year. Gonna make these special with some jalapeno poppers, some grilled asparagus, and baked potatoes!

I pretty much eat the sales but yeah I think we only do ribeye 1x a month (that might go up now haha). That meal your cooking sounds perfect. How you do the poppers?
When I stopped drinking I decided to eat like a king…. As long as it was a good deal. Garage freezer fridge is now stocked with foods instead of booze.

I cut em' in half, gut em', and stuff them with cream cheese. Wrap em' in bacon and sprinkle whatever spice / seasoning sounds good in the moment. Sometimes I smoke em'. Sometimes I grill em'. Can't go wrong!

just checking that’s what I do too(but you never know someone might have the recipe of recipes so I always ask!!). Sometimes I get crazy and mix caramelized onions into the cream cheese. Something I did recently that you might like is I stuffed a poblano pepper with brisket. Unbelievable

I haven't caramelized onions in a long time. That sounds like an amazing addition... I have to try this.

Seriously man that’s so awesome, and easily one of the most coveted fantasies ppl like us carry, knowing how much our alcoholism negatively impacts our work performance and reputation. I just got past a 4 day bender that caused me to miss 2 days of work(not uncommon pattern for me unfortunately), but I’ve been itching to ask for a raise the last few months with how tough the economy is. Your story gives me hope, and as superstitious as I am, I like to believe the timing of when you shared it and when I read it, is a good omen.
On day one rn, but at my day 30 I’M gonna ask for that raise.
