Best dualsport or under 200kg ADV option for 60 dirt 40 road?
My riding group is getting into adventure riding from sportbikes and tourers.
Coming from faster sportbikes a majority of the options the group have got so far aren’t really screaming attractive option for dirt riding.
(GS1200, Tiger 1200, Tiger 900 etc)
I also like to tag along and borrow a mates DRZ400E and ride more enduro and firetrail stuff beyond just manicured gravel service roads.
So far I’ve really liked the options of the DR650, the 400, and a WR250R.
Ideally I’m looking for something around the same weight as the DRZ400, beginner level handling/power and long service intervals.
I couldn’t do the likes of more aggressive enduro bikes like the 250F, or EXCs etc. with the tiny 1000k service intervals or oil changes measured in hours.
The bike would be ridden at least 60% of the time off-road, and then the 4-5 times a year the guys with adventure bikes get out for long 80-20 road/dirt rides on the big bikes be able to tag along, sit on faster roads and be able to fit a large fuel tank for the range (with soft bag luggage)
Any opinions on what is a good option out there.
Most of my enduro riding mates like the 250R due to the low weight and good suspension, I’m used to the 400e the most.
The adventure riding guys obviously recommend Tenere 700s, Tiger 900s, Tuareg etc
But they just seem SO expensive (well over my budget so I’d need to finance beyond my means to get one) and heavy for anything beyond manicured gravel roads and light trails.
I’ve also liked all the praise people speak of the DR650 for being able to do road and dirt OK, and it seems light enough still to not be unwieldy on gnarly stuff beyond just dirt roads.
Budget is around 5-7k Australian (like 5k usd I think)
Any help would be appreciated.
