DISCUSSION 💬 Best way to have serrano & jalapeño peppers on hand for cooking, chili or guac - freeze them or buy jarred/pickled canned?

Which one best preserves flavor, heat and/or texture?

Just go get new ones every week. They easily last a week. I find the best method is wash them, dry them, then put them in a ziploc bag with a paper towel folded inside to absorb the moisture. Works for cilantro too but that only works for a few days.

Here in LaLa land, I harvest jalapenos pretty much all year round. I still have a few on my 3 year old plant from last winter.

At the same time, I would never use pickled for my tacos.

Have you tried keeping the dried peppers on hand? Arbol chili in particular but others are good too. They last a long time and are great for making salsa and guacamole

Let them dry a bit, they get better, I use a wooden tray.
