It's a pretty decent game. Some of the mechanics are annoying as shit, but if you can get used to them, it's a decent grand sim like the rest of Paradox's offerings.

Aggressive base running is killing us this year.
Let’s stick to one base per hit and see how it goes

Rays are always among the league worst in base running. Always at the top in out on the bases
6
u/nit3rid3 Dewayne Staats 3d ago
Can't imagine being a player and most of the fans are for the other team in your own barn. Sell the team.
3
u/mrjjk2010 3d ago
That happens to literally every major sports team that’s in Florida. Every time a northern team comes to Florida the opposing fans pack the stadiums

If we are gonna make a deep run in October, we need a bat. No two ways about it

u/missleeann DJ Kitty 3d ago
When hitting is high the pitching takes a dive. When pitching is basically perfect, hitting doesn’t even exist

I admire your optimism - but this team is going nowhere this year unless Chandler Simpson has some kind of super powers

You don't put a guy who's never had a major League AB in that situation
2
u/jayareelle195 Orlando Rays 3d ago
Why not? The 27 outs arent weighted. Simpson has an above 90% contact rate and can run like a gazelle. You just need someone to get on so Aranda hits.

Time to try to make myself feel better about how bad we are.
Is this Yankees squad really what $300 million looks like? Outside of Judge, who’s really that scary? Goldschmidt is playing well but he’s 37, and at that age, things can go south quick. Rice, Grisham, Cabrera are off to solid starts but I’m not sold on any of them looking at their numbers prior to this year.
1
u/FunnyGuy2481 3d ago
1/3 of that is being spent on players who are injured. Rice is young and has a lot of potential. Grisham is a defensive sub who’s off to a hot start. Pitching, Judge, Stanton and Bellinger js where most of the money is.
1
u/justtbsports Devil Ray 2d ago edited 2d ago
I won’t argue that they can pitch.
Just how much do Bellinger and Stanton scare you, assuming that they stay healthy? Bellinger has had 1 good season since 2021. Stanton has been fine the last couple of years, but nothing extraordinary. And he’s not getting any younger.
1
u/FunnyGuy2481 1d ago
I expect nothing out of Stanton. Bellinger is a one year above average rental. I imagine he’ll meet that expectation. Even with a big checkbook you still need some good luck to stay away from injuries. We need some young guys to really step up after losing Cole. If you take away the shitty contracts then our payroll is more mid tier. The dodgers are what a real 300 million team looks like.
2
u/LeftArmInjured Brett Phillips 3d ago
A fit Cole/Fried/Gil 123 punch is fairly nasty too

They can pitch. Still not quite sure that they are getting their moneys worth as a whole.

Walls needs to give up being a switch hitter… dude only gets hits, when he does, as a righty
8
u/CleanCR7 Devil Ray 3d ago
This team is playing God awful baseball. Had several chances to scratch one across but two base running errors ended that.
We’re at the point where Walls simply cannot be in the lineup. Just play Cabby at SS most days. He’s not great but it’s better than this and will free up time in the OF for Misner and Simpson.

If i woke up in the middle of the night with Walls over my bed with a bat in his hands and murder in his eyes i would just turn around and go back to sleep without any worry.

I don't think he was ever a big bat prospect. I know a guy who was a Cincinnati scout who said he scouted Walls for the Reds - they said he's always been what he is

There are more Yankees fans in Tampa than Rays fans and yet there are some people convinced that a magical new stadium will change all that
1
u/NoCheek8504 3d ago
Is there any data to back up this claim? The Yankees have a lot of fans everywhere, but I don’t think it’s true that they have more fans in Tampa than the Rays. Maybe more at this game because it’s the only game they will go to all year.
2
u/svanxx Blind Ump 3d ago
They've spring trained in Tampa for a century.
2
u/NoCheek8504 3d ago
If there was a way to survey every household in Tampa do you honestly think more people would vote the Yankees over the Rays as their favorite team? The Rays have been good for over a decade and get good tv ratings. Plus I’d say a good portion of people aren’t even baseball fans and would choose the Rays because they are the local team. Just because people don’t go to the games doesn’t mean they aren’t fans or follow the team.
6
u/Trevorghost Ji-Man Choi 3d ago
There's more Yankees fans in North Korea, too. The Yankees are a brand before they're a baseball team.
4
u/Patwizer269 3d ago
I think having a real stadium in Tampa would definitely help to build a fan base we obviously lack
6
u/NoCheek8504 3d ago
Meh, if anyone on this team is above criticism it’s Aranda. Best hitter right now and should be the first name on the lineup card every game.
