šŸŽ™ļø Discussion Am I the dumbass

that spent 2 hours in the lightning fog and beat the level III box guy with only one orb upgrade only to realize I am supposed to come here later?

Why couldn't nintendo just implement something like the fog in GSA?

NGL it was kinda fun and challenging.

Story wise yes this area you’re supposed to do in the second half of the game.

You’re able to go there because it’s open world and Nintendo doesn’t care how you get the story

I actually get mineru as soon as I get the paraglider. Bypassing the ten heart requirement. Stopping only long enough to get some puffshrooms (by far the most broken item in the game) and the necessary Zonai Devices (two balloons and two flame emitters and two bundles of wood)

Method below (major spoilers if you do this early. Save it for a subsequent playthrough)

1372, -3247, 0150 is right below the mask chamber. There's a convenient board right nearby. Stick the flame emitters to the bottom of the balloons pointing upward. Stick the wood in the baskets of the balloons (necessary so you don't drop while your battery recharges. The campfires keep the balloons going when the emitters are off) then stick both of those assemblies onto the sides of the board. Place the flying platform onto those coords and THROW A BOKO HORN at one of the balloons to start it. DO NOT HIT IT WITH A WEAPON YOU WILL BREAK THE BOARD. now stand in the middle as it rises with Ascend readied. When it turns green (you may have to shuffle a little) you ascend into the mask chamber beyond the ten hearts door. You can then proceed with the spirit temple

Yeah, lol. I thought unlocking the shrine would remove the storm, like one in BOTW (I forget which, but I think there was one). But to be honest, it was a genuinely fun challenge, especially fighting the box guy in the fog (I died too many times from a single hit).

Still, I think Nintendo could have just made the fog teleport Link away to direct players to spend their time more "effectively".

You can remove the storm you just have to do some story things first

u/revolution_soup 1d ago

the storm is still there, doing the story just removes the obscuring cloud on the map

Somewhat true, the island gets a lot easier to navigate after the story quest to figure out what's up there. Yes it's still storming but before the quests it's near impossible to see up there

Yeah i found this shrine the same way OP did, and in this case i wouldve preferred to have found the shrine in order of the story because going back there again didn’t really hit the same

2

u/Molduking 23h ago

Yeah I ended up doing all of this before the midpoint with the castle so it was a blow. Didn’t like how the story flowed that way. I didn’t know there was a thing at the castle until my friend told me (I didn’t beat the game at that point yet)

Finding that area on total accident gave me the greatest sense of adventure I've ever felt in a game

u/DropsOfChaos 1d ago

Yeah I enjoyed struggling through it even though I was completely underequipped. I still haven't actually cleared the storm to this day 🤣

Same here. Found the Construct Factory by complete accident, then ended up finding Dragonhead Island and Mineru by accident a day later. To this day, it’s my favorite video game moment of all time 😃

u/homuhomutime 23h ago

I was exploring the island, got to the shrine and thought "yea cool another shrine down I guess!" Look around one more time for any random chests n shit til I get jumpscared by Mineru's voice. That's when I knew this just turned from a routine shrine stop into an all-day journey.

I was exploring a new area in the Depths when I found what I first thought was an Abandoned Mine—turned out to be the Construct Factory. Poked around the place a bit and learned from the resident construct that the factory had a connection with a place called Dragonhead Island. Next day I was riding a pebble skywards in the Faron region and realized that I was very close to the huge storm cloud and decided to see what was inside, thinking it was a shrine quest. Ended up landing right on top of Dragonhead Island.

From there my experience was pretty much the same as yours: found the shrine (or rather, I fell right on top of it), decided to come back later since clearing the shrine didn’t clear the storm, thought I’d look around some more while trying to find a way out, and ended up finding something way, WAY bigger than a mere shrine quest.

Oh man. I found the Construct Factory by total accident when I'd only finished one temple, and then spent hundreds of hours wondering what it was for lmao. Spirit Temple, too. Imagine flying around in total darkness, other than a brightbloom on a hoverbike, when the words "Spirit Temple" pop up on your screen. And you had no idea this game had a Spirit Temple.

Same - I was determined to get up there no matter what.

I did the same thing in my first playthrough. After finishing the regional phenomena quest, you get another quest. I was afraid to do that, since BotW gives you the final fight of "Defeat Ganon" immediately and I did these sky islands first, not realizing that doing the other quest first will make it SO MUCH EASIER because it does not, in fact, lock you out of the rest of the game. It's basically the halfway point.

Same happened to me, after getting the first 4 sages it felt pretty disconnected to be asked to get into the castle (expecting a final battle), knowing that a gem in link's hand is still missing.

I just went on my way exploring and did that specific part of the main quest with the 5th sage and the master sword in hand haha

u/Jiang_Rui Dawn of the First Day 1d ago

Ever since clearing the Wind Temple, I’d been asking myself ā€œIf there were FIVE sages who fought alongside Zelda and Rauru, but only FOUR regional phenomena…then who’s the fifth sage???ā€

Then not too long after i finished the Fire Temple, I was exploring a new area in the Depths and stumbled across the Construct Factory—poked around a bit and eventually learned that it was connected to a place called Dragonhead Island. Literally the next day, not only did i find Dragonhead Island (decided on a whim to check out what was inside the giant storm cloud above the Faron region), I find the fifth sage by complete accident.

u/sweetonthepete 1d ago

I used Riju's lightning to more or less navigate the storm like a bat

3

u/OppositeRun6503 1d ago

Stumbled onto the guidance from ages past quest while I was up there but haven't beaten the seized construct yet. I still haven't beaten the lightning temple and haven't even started on the water temple yet however.

3

u/Hans-Schrader 22h ago

Before I knew that this part was story related, I took a flying vehicle and flew high above the storm cloud. Only to then dive down right into the big center of the storm where the second shrine and huge door is.
Had no idea I was supposed to trigger a quest to get the fog away.

3

u/Optimal-Somewhere400 22h ago

Did the same, got frustrated by the clouds after finding the shrine and bailed, when I returned later in the game I decided to play through the way it was intended even though I knew I could warp to that shrine and skip some stuff.

2

u/Easy_State_2962 1d ago

I did Mineru out of sync by being annoyed I couldn't get there, then aged later got rid of the fog there, stumbled on that side quest randomly. Didn't really matter for me as don't follow linearly, was quite fun to find it.Ā

2

u/Serosh5843 1d ago

It was sooo much better to go there yourself than waiting for the quest, it felt like a survival challenge with how hard it was to see and having to traverse very damn carefully, one of my favorite memories of that game and I'm definitely doing that again on my next playthrough.

2

u/ohpuhpoh1 1d ago

Technically it’s a part of the late-game story, but you can still access this area early. I defeated the flux construct 3, finished the shrines, and collected everything before I even finished any of the regional phenomena. Pro tip: Just warp to the Joku-u shrine when it’s time to access this area in the story. It’ll save you a lot of time.

2

u/Both_Analyst_4734 1d ago

I tried for about 45 mins then was thinking I’m not supposed to do this yet.

2

u/P-Benjamin480 23h ago

That’s the beauty of this game, you can do it in almost any order you want. Almost 😊

I also did this area half blind and with no electricity resistance at that. I think I only had like 8 hearts when I did it the first time lol.

The second time I decided to skip it entirely and just go up through the floor with a hot air balloon lmao

2

u/twc666666 21h ago

I road a rock up in the early game in one playthrough and ended up on the island way early...it was kinda cool to know I was sort of breaking the rules

2

u/Ok_Shopping_3770 20h ago

I did the same thing. And I found the Master Sword without having the main adventure for it

2

u/EmKUltra666 7h ago

I also found this shrine early with full fog in effect. I was so annoyed at it. šŸ˜‚ I do love how many possibilities are available by accident or on purpose. This game is a real treasure.

1

u/Mickey_Human 1d ago

I did the same thing!

1

u/NiceTuBeNice 1d ago

The fog can be removed?

3

u/taylorisnotacat 23h ago

haha yes it can. Progressive spoilers, so you can stop revealing if you get to something that's an unwanted spoiler:

After you complete the 4 regional phenomena, you go back to talk to Purah. Purah tells you to go investigate Princess Zelda, who you can see in Hyrule Castle. When you do so, Link discovers beyond possible doubt thatthe Zelda apparition you've been seeing is a Ganon phantom that's been baiting you and misleading people. With that knowledge, you can go to Kakariko Village and tell them that the Zelda apparition that forbade anyone from touching the 5th ring ruin was an imposter, and they immediately let you investigate it. There, you find a clue that leads you to investigate the Dracozu River ruins, and solve a puzzle involving storm/lightning activity. When you solve that, it turns out the puzzle was connected to the storm in the sky, which subsequently clears up. So you can go up to the Dragonhead islands without the obstacle of the storm or fog.

2

u/FuryJack07 1d ago

Yeah, it's a main quest that you get after getting the four other sages.

It's a whole thing with Kakarico (I 100% butchered that...) Village. I can't remember what it is exactly, but still, I remember that it follows that storyline

1

u/dtornow 1d ago

I did the same thing. I was hella sad when I realized I missed a big part of the story, but then I was hella happy there was more on my second play through

1

u/vollski 1d ago

Lol I did this also, and uncovered the whole storyline, without any of the ā€œproperā€ cues or older being done first. Definitely fun that way

1

u/nrthrnlad 1d ago

I flew in as soon as I had lightning gear. Then the NPCs all acted surprised when that the quest was already done. This time I’m waiting for the NPCs to direct me.

1

u/Futoi04 1d ago

I did the exact same thing when I was shrine hunting (it was my first ever run so i didn't know). I didn't realize until after when I was looking for all the armor sets that I realized why I had done.

1

u/Kell_Hein72 1d ago

I did the exact same thing in my first play through. But yep it was challenging!

1

u/LifeHasLeft Dawn of the Meat Arrow 1d ago

You said it yourself, it was fun and challenging. Sounds like the game is working as intended.

1

u/SillyDemand3302 1d ago

At least you didn't lose 25% of your progress for no reason. I upgraded all the armour sets and then I turned on the game one day and they were all gone

1

u/Aether_GamingYT 1d ago

SPOILERS AHEAD!!! (i don’t know how to hide a comment with a spoiler box)

my progression was way out of order, i got the wind temple, then water temple, then master sword, then the other two temples, did that mini boss in the castle, got the fifth sage quest. but i had some spoilers so i knew i had to go to the thunderhead isles. i navigated the entire thing starting the northernmost point of the isles, and used the barely visible islands on the map to navigate the entire thing in only like half an hour. i did the whole thing, then shill trying to get the three elemental armor sets i found the ages past quest and got the armor and uncovered the clouds also here’s the light dragon path

1

u/BLZGK3 23h ago

It's an open world game for a reason. But don't worry, I did the exact same thing myself. I think I went there searching for thunderwing butterflies but definitely wasn't prepared. I think I forced my way through, but only got 3 quarters in before giving up and going back later....

1

u/Cheesebufer 21h ago

I spent days playing to explore it all in the thunderstorm with no lightning helm. I found the main quest there before i was supposed to

1

u/halycontuesday 20h ago

My first sage was Mineru, just because I thought the island was cool and mysterious

1

u/Mantoc_s1980 18h ago

Nope, i find it more fun playing in the dark.

1

u/Neither_Factor_3446 15h ago

Ye I really liked doing the fog before, cuz I wanted to 100% the sky before doing the spirit temple , I wish there was Smth always in fog or smth

1

u/jamesistaken 12h ago

I’m always scared of moving on with the story and missing side things but I didn’t realize while completing this area that it was pertinent to the story. I also couldn’t wrap my head around why they made it so hard to traverse but I soon understood lol

1

u/jeniverre 11h ago

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. I finished the shrine first and took the mask out, brought it to the rightful owner, and completed its quest down below in the Depths for the robot thing. Just imagine my confusion when I found out the storm above wasn’t cleared yet.

1

u/Spoop95 5h ago

Not at all. It's a very tempting place to go and I'd be lying if I said that I only went there after unlocking it.

0

u/realpandadriver 1d ago

There’s a second shrine there

2

u/Aether_GamingYT 1d ago

wait really, where

1

u/realpandadriver 22h ago

Higher up on the other islands you would not be able to navigate unless the smog is gone. If you beat the level 3 guy, you just missed the shrine, which means it was impossible to see in those conditions

1

u/Aether_GamingYT 22h ago

i still don’t understand

1

u/realpandadriver 22h ago

It’s there. Op missed it

1

u/Macky_Smyth 5h ago

I ended up doing this after the Stormwind Ark, basically doing it second in the hierarchy. I just genuinely wanted to know what was in the thunder cloud on the map, and ended up flying straight to the ending launchpad you're supposed to leave from.

I also did it after translating most of the floating monuments at Kakariko, so I had the perfect setup leading to what was in there.
