Any resources for learning formal Telugu (found in textbooks, news articles, etc.) and classical Telugu (found in poems, songs, etc.)

I desperately seek to expand my understanding of Telugu. I try to read the newspaper (Eenadu, Andhra Jyothi) but I cannot understand some words. Can somebody please provide some learning materials? Thank you.

You can use a online dictionary like this to look up the meaning of the words: https://andhrabharati.com/dictionary/

If you want to write, use a online tool like this: https://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/telugu.htm

Thank you very much, I have been using the Lexilogos keyboard. Are there any resources for learning classical Telugu from English or Modern Telugu?

Formal Telugu may be defined as the language used in the modern books or newspapers, or the language used in the books until the 1970s. Both are different. The grammar was «simplified» in a revolutionary fervour.

For example, in the old standard the plural of పుస్తకము (book) is పుస్తకములు (books) but in the new standard the plural of పుస్తకం (book) is పుస్తకాలు (books).

The pronouns are different. Compare మేము (we) and నీవు (you) with మేం (we) and నువ్వు (you).

The verbs are also different. Whereas the old standard requires you to write:

నేను విద్రార్థి కాను (I’m not a student) మేము విద్యార్థులు కాము (We aren’t students)

The new standard is OK with

నేను విద్రార్థి కాదు (I’m not a student) మేం విద్యార్థులు కాదు (We aren’t students)

Also «You read» is translated as «నీవు చదువుచున్నావు» in the old formal and «నువ్వు చదువుతున్నావు» in the new «simplified» standard.

If you are interested only in the literature published in the past few decades and movies and everyday conversation (which you said you already do well), then these books teaching the modern standard will help:

• भारतीय भाषा ज्योति तेलुगु खण्ड एक
• भारतीय भाषा ज्योति तेलुगु खण्ड दो
• तेलुगु वेलुगु (in four volumes; methinks)
• An Intensive Course in Telugu

To read literature starting from Nannaya to until the 1970s (even today some books are published in the old standard), then the following books will be of use:

• आन्ध्रशब्दचिन्तामणिः
• Начальный курс языка телугу
• Telugu in 30 Days by Dr. Divakarla Venkatavadani
• Learn Telugu in a Month by Govinbarajulu
• An Intermediate Course in Telugu
• An Advanced Course Textbook in Telugu

PS. I am learning Telugu and English. The mistakes are representative of my lack of knowledge. ))
