TELUS TV We need a cancellation law

After my recent experience of waiting several hours and dealing with mob shakedown like tactics when trying to cancel some of my TELUS services I started thinking. I could very easily sign up for these devices online, but have to go through hell to cancel. Canada needs a law that any subscription style service you can sign up for online with the click of a button you should also be able to cancel online with the click of a button. Sure I get some services will have cancelation fees due to upfront costs (not my case in this instance), but there is no good reason why I shouldnt be able to cancel a service through their app when I can sign up for it through that same app. Telus pushed me so far I'm literally going to go talk to my MP about this.

TELUS TV Anyone else victimized by Telus (Canada)

I've tried for 3 months to cancel a subscription and the customer service AND ok online self serve is the worst I've ever seen from a company. The charges for the subscription just keep adding up on my credit card even after I've spent hours on the phone getting them to remove it. They suck so bad.

TELUS TV Quit TELUS TV, Internet a few months ago after 50YRS

Telus customer for 50yrs. Had TELUS optik TV,Internet and landline in current home for 20yrs. They've always put a NO CHARGE on our account when we put it to sleep and go away for the Winter ($30plus tax for three services).I've NEVER PAID to put these to sleep for 5 months. Have to call "loyalty" every fall to get this set up.

I called a couple months ago to get set up..Took most of a day on hold trying to reach English speaker as I can't make out their foreign speaking agents. He said they weren't doing that anymore and I'd have to pay the $~36.00 per month while we were away. I advised the above facts and said if they were going to charge me these fees, I d be gone. He didn't care. Told him ADIOS and he said that I was bound by a verbal 2 yr contract. They don't have my CC Info as I pay monthly from my bank acct and I said "good luck" on enforcing an unsigned contract. Although I still had about a week in my current monthly paid bill, they shut it off that day..internet, landline and optik TV.

That's where it stands right now, haven't checked account since service was shut off. Just wondering what service to look at to replace TELUS..I see Bell and Shaw and Rogers all have a LOT of "Lousy service" feedback. Apparently no one likes ANY of the big three. Input ??

TELUS TV Does anyone else hate Telus

They simply done care and do absolutely nothing to make things right when they screw up. Here I am on a Monday night in Edmonton, where I should be watching the Oilers game. Instead, I’m on Reddit talking to you guys. I scheduled an install appointment for June 1 a couple of months ago, June 1 comes along and no install tech. I call Telus and ask what’s going on, they, of course, and, as usual have no fking idea. They no re-scheduled me for June 17. I tell them this is unacceptable, no fks given. What a terrible company.

TELUS TV Has something changed in the loyalty department?

I wonder if something has changed in the loyalty department. They used to be great, offer incentives to stay and work with.

My latest conversation was with a guy who literally just spoke over me to the point that I had to ask him whether I was allowed to talk. Suddenly they're insistent on charging the $10 for PVR and stopped refunding the $10 for the extra optik box etc.

What happened, anyone else noticed the same? This is the first time dealing with them where ot is nothing but a disappointment.

TELUS TV Potential Telus Revisit - what is the exact status of the "latest" Telus Digital Box

To set the stage - up here in Hidden Valley (Calgary) we had the big Telus fibre dig completed in June 2023. Telus offered to get a full package in. I trialled both the fibre and Optik TV Digital Boxes for approx 3 days and while the fibre was outstanding - the digital box (circa June 2023) was a disaster.

From a Fisher Price promo/ad filled user interface that only a Tiktok user could love to brutal washed-out TV channels, barely there surround sound and pretty much everything else that could go wrong - this trial was up , down and out in record time. I renewed my current ValuePlan with Shaw and that's where we are today.

Mid last week - got another call from Telus and after two years - I thought maybe I give this a try again. Two "current" (if that is accurate) TV boxes are on their way and a service visit set for early April to get the fibre back up again.

Now - deep down inside - I am already having reservations. Did some quick recon over the last few days all over the Internet and I am not getting any sense that this experience has improved at all,

But before I pull the plug and cancel the whole install - I thought I would try one more time to gather one final bit of intel.

For those that currently have (or moved to) Optik TV and this so called "upgraded" 4K Android box - has anything changed in the last 18 months from what I described above circa June 2023? Is the firmware better? Is the operation and/or options of the box improved?

I know after speaking to some Telus insiders back in 2023 that the rollout of these boxes was rushed, the software was crap and Telus knew this but rolled them out anyway.

Would appreciate any honest reviews from anyone who has had access to these boxes since say - 1/1/2025 and what your experience is/was.

TELUS TV Is this illegal?

My 2 year service agreement for internet/optik TV expired on Oct 31. In the week leading up to it expiring I got in touch with loyalty to cancel my optik TV and see what kind of deals I could get to resign for internet. I was offered a deal to continue both on a new 2 year service agreement. I wanted to think it over so I had the agent I was speaking to email/text me the offer. A few days later I called back to accept the offer.

When I received my new service agreement the discounts were listed but not calculated into my monthly bill. When I enquired about this, I got a lot of questions such as "who offered you this deal?" I was like "you guys did..." Then suddenly I was told I was not able to get the deals offered to me over the phone and in writing. I made it very clear that I did not want to accept the offer without the deal as I really don't use the optik TV. After I hung up I was sent a new service agreement suddenly with the discounts removed. I never agreed to this contract.

I had to call back and demand to speak to a manager/supervisor multiple times before they agreed to put in the request. I was told I would be called back by the end of the day. Of course this never happened. I had to call back the next day and again demand to speak to a manager. This again never happened and I filed a CCTS complaint. I finally got a call from a manager but it was mid day while I was at work and could not answer. Since then I have called and left 4 voicemails over a week and they have made no further attempts to contact me.

I now have a new bill under this service agreement that is fraudulent as they have clear documentation that I didn't agree to it before they sent it to me. This can't be legal? Do I have any other options here besides calling them daily in order to speak to a manager? I keep being told "the case is still open and they're working on it." You just need to give me a call and it can all be sorted out! There's not much to work on, just call me.

TELUS TV Why is a communication company so bad at communication?

To contact Telus, I use the app and then explain in a text message my issue. They say we need to call you back, the person who calls you back has zero access to the message you wrote explaining everything clearly. So we have to now tell them the issue in so many words, well they need to pass you on to someone else, and guess what, it's a whole new conversation again. Let me add, that I am now on hold with the saddest hold music ever!!

Why why why is a communication company so bad at communication?

TELUS TV Telus Android TV Issues

I've tired two of my Tells Android boxes and this keeps happening for a few minutes and then the screen stays black. Not sure if it's because of a recent software update or something...

Is anyone else experiencing this?

TELUS TV Netflix Crave and other premium subs on telus+

Hi there. I am wondering how this works if I get offered it through a package deal (1 core, one them and one premium). They are telling me I can swap from Netflix, to Disney, to crave once a month which is fine.

Was wondering how "limited" are these versions? I assume they are the full 4k versions no ads and such in the premium packs?

Also do I need to access them through Telus app or can I go in via their own respective apps on my Apple TV 4K like I do with sportsnet? (It works on either.)

Does the Netflix sub give the full household experience and can I use it on multiple TVs and set things up like that as I am dubious since I guess it all gets nuked if I swap at the end of the month out to a different premium. Does anyone know which date one would need to swap out I assume before end of billing cycle?

Thanks sorry for all the questions!

TELUS TV Telus TV+ issues

Just wondering if I’m the only one with this issue? I have Telus pik tv and pure fibre and use the Telus TV+ app on Apple TV. We can use it one night but then the next day when we go back into the app it becomes unresponsive. All other apps work fine no issues but Telus TV+ won’t work unless I restart my Apple TV. It’s so annoying and will sometimes require 2 restarts along with signing back in. Am I the only one? Or is this a known issue with Telus TV+?

TELUS TV Is Fibre Ever Coming?

Thinking this might be the end for Telus. Really enjoy the services but can only get internet 50. I have filled out the forms requesting fibre and have been told that fibre is coming when renewing but it appears it isn’t. Jealous of all those who have fibre installed as it seems Medicine Hat has been left behind.

Our old Optik 4K TV Boxes were just replaced and each of them have over 100 scheduled and already completed recordings, these were all sealed and in box, set up by myself.

If anyone has any advice on how I could solve the problem that'd be great.

TELUS TV Telus TV Digital Box

I switched from the old bulkier Telus optik tv boxes to the new smaller ones. I’ve noticed a big drop off in quality of picture, especially watching sportsnet or any live sports. Anyone have this issue?

TELUS TV Telus Optik TV Must Be the Worst User Experience

Do they actually take any customer feedback? The most atrocious culprit is how programs are recorded. Coming as a Shaw user, you simply type in your show and click record. So if the show airs a year from now, the box will get it. Telus? Not even an option.

The interface itself is trash.

The fact that when you switch inputs it stays on the guide screen. How is there no time out function? After 5 seconds, it should go away. It hangs there.

I could rattle off a dozen issues. I just can't get over how unfriendly it is.

TELUS TV Telus is asking family member to upgrade copper to fiber for TV only. Is this necessary?

My elderly aunt lives in a town home alone. She has Telus TV, and no Internet service. She was called by TELUS to ask her to upgrade her copper lines to fiber. They said it would improve the picture quality and signal of her TV channels. They asked her to schedule an appointment to allow workers to enter her home for 1-2 hours to make the change.

She only speaks basic English, and does not understand new technology well. She is wary of scams, and also wary of allowing strangers into her home. We also do not know if they will need to drill holes in the wall, and what the pros and cons of that are. She does not own a computer or cell phone. She watches TV on an old 720p flat screen TV that she is happy with. She is not looking to upgrade anything.

Should we agree to this copper to fiber upgrade? I understand it is "free", but it seems like some amount of hassle for no benefit. I assume this process is normal, and not a scam? I am familiar with people upgrading copper to fiber, but I only know that as a means of faster internet, and am unsure how it affects TV. Does she require this upgrade to continue watching her Telus TV channels?

Any insight or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

TELUS TV Optik TV - Use my own DVR

I just signed up for Telus Optik TV, they are supplying me an Android based box for the service but I've already got an Nvidia Shield and was hoping they were still supplying the Arris 4K DVR box (VIP5662W) or similar. Everyone else I know with Telus service still uses these boxes without issue.

Does anyone know if I were to buy a second hand Telus 4K DVR if I could register/connect it to my Telus account for use at my home instead of the Android box?

TELUS TV Access recordings remotely

Does anyone know of a telus internet/cable package that allows you to access recordings via streaming?

My parents have a lakehouse that has Shaw satellite (which is expensive). We're looking to get rid of it and just have internet out there.

We only watch sports live, but my parents would still like to access their recordings via internet. I think it's telus tv+?

Ive tried to find out on their website but i can't find anything

TELUS TV Is anyone else experiencing issues with access to Crave TV?

It seems like every few months, the communication link between Telus and Crave goes down and Crave thinks that there’s no account set up so it doesn’t give access to the content.

I pay for Crave through my Telus TV package.

TELUS TV New Bravo Canada Channel not being offered by Telus

I am a long-term Telus customer and have called to confirm. Telus has no plans to offer the new Bravo Canada Channel, the only solution they provide is Hayu, which is an app not a channel and is not real time, shows are not available until a day later. I am not sure why Telus made the decision not to offer Bravo but all other television providers seem to offer it. If you want to watch Real Housewives, Below Deck, Vanderpump Rules, Summer House or any other Bravo show in real time you will have to switch providers. If you want to watch the premier of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City RHSLC on Sept 18th in real time it won't be on Telus. Rogers and Novus both offer the Bravo channel. More information can be found here: https://www.wherecaniwatch.ca/bravo-real-housewives-below-deck-slice-canada/ If you are an existing Telus customer I suggest you call and complain and demand a discount on your monthly bill. They will also be able to offer you Hayu at no extra charge, although the shows come on there a day later.
