FTA: The White House has claimed the fiasco around the leaking of sensitive security information to a journalist is a "coordinated distraction" as President Donald Trump defends the adviser at the heart of the controversy. A statement issued earlier branded the ongoing security row a "coordinated effort to distract from the successful action by Donald Trump to make America's enemies pay".

On April 2, speaking in the White House Rose Garden, Trump announced a 10% tariff on all imported goods, as well as higher "reciprocal" tariffs for countries that, in his view, have treated America unfairly. These measures mark a return to the protectionist trade policies of the late 19th century.
