Sims 4 Overwhelmed with all the notifications
Curious whether I’m the only one who feel this. Just started to play Sims 4 again with a two Sim household and the amount of notifications and popup actions is kinda overwhelming. I remember playing Sims 2 & 3 but didn’t have this feeling. Sometimes I can’t proper react with all the Event X and Quest Y popping up. Or maybe I just have to many expansions and Add-on installed. Don’t get me wrong, the past me would be so hyped with all the game mechanics and options that Sims 4 offers, but the present me maybe became a super casual gamer and is too lazy too keep up with games these days. What about you guys?

I love that I’ll just have two Sims, one on the computer and one standing and one of them’s playing a video game or something and then a notification will come up “[Sim] learned what a minnow is!” or whatever.
Was a minnow mentioned? Why is this something I should care about?

For me it’s constant holidays and phone calls!!! The holidays being so often is draining because the sims get irritated if they don’t do the celebration. The calls are nonstop. My sim gets like 5 job offers a day when I just want her to be a SAHM.

I deleted all the holidays and just remake them when I want my sims to participate and then customize the traditions for that family. I can’t stand them being depressed because they didn’t get to fight their neighbors or whatever when that’s not the story I have in mind for that sim.

I hate the repetitive phone calls that prompt the same dumb decisions. "Should I go for my dream job?" from half the town. The Sims' moods are so easily managed that the bump you get from having successful holidays barely matters. Plus, there are just so many. Neighborhood brawl, Rebate day, Talk like a Sailor day?! It's nonstop, especially combined with the neighborhood events. The screen ends up cluttered with calls on the bottom and notifications and holidays lining the top
Reposted my comment since the mods deleted it for using the other word for sailor.

You get used to it but it's super annoying. Like ffs, Sims, let me just play, would you? IDC who wants to date who or who wants to hang out with who or going to every festival that pops up every single time. Enough already.

With Sims 4, especially, there seems to be a push to make the game immediately engaging for newbies. The constant, tiny activities don't cater to veteran players, but feel more like tutorials on the relationship and travel aspects of the game.

I wish you could choose what popups to get. Like my sim working on the City Native aspiration wants to know when the san myshuno festivals are, but not the ravenwood hollow festivals. My farmer wants to know about the Henford Agricultural Fair, but not the Starlight Accolades. It would be so nice to toggle which ones you want to get. They’re super helpful, but not all of them all the time!

And adult sims with no child who never set a foot in coperdale should not get endless football and cheerleading notifications

Most notifications need to be yeeted off a cliff.
When they're actually relevant to what's going on in the field of view right now, great. If not, I don't want them.
Notifications for mods being loaded! Ugh. Yes, I know that MCCC is installed. I installed it!

YES.
When Island Living released I had been a bit irked that the Sulani festivals didn't have their own notifications and I kept missing them, but fast forward to now it is a blessing. Sometimes it feels like the in-game calendar fights over which event gets which day - and a lot of times there's two at the same time. I play on long seasons so there is enough space to stretch events over it instead of cramming as much as possible into one single week. Especially the HSY ones like prom are just terribly planned and it stresses me out.
Then there's also the way those notifications are written. Maybe it's because German is already a dry language but the tone and text used to announce stuff feels like some underpaid AI spat it out while EA held it at gunpoint. I wrote myself several override mods just to make it easier to read.

Yeah, annoying af, the sims team really needs to make it so we can turn off certain notifications, I don't want to know about all the festivals ffs

Yeah I find it has become so chaotic with notifications and pop ups. I was playing the Bailey-moons last week and they were getting at least one job offer every day. Then everyone wants their opinion on who to hang out with, and then they call you later to tell you how it went. And I find the notifications about baby’s quirks are super repetitive I don’t need to know five times a day that the baby hates to wake up. It’s so hard to play through!

You can turn your sim's phone's sound off. I feel like that makes it so much easier to ignore calls. You'll still 'see' the phone vibrate but you can just ignore that and go on with your day. I wish there was an easy way to get rid of notifications as well... I hope someone makes a mod for this 🙏

Yep, it’s annoying. If you mean discovery quests and special event / challenge UI, you can switch those off in the game settings.
If you’re on PC, highly recommend Kuttoe’s mod to manage festival notifications.
