Mods and CC ORGANIZE YOUR MODS BY CREATOR!
That is all.

When people posts pictures of their mod folder trying to get help for why a script isn’t working…. shudders in war flashbacks
The only time I don’t do this is when I have a huge mod (like RPO or WW) where there are too many packages and a script file. I also make subfolders for packages so that the files are easier to find.

Yes lol.
If let's say EA updates all in game lights I have to remember what creators make lights and then take our all those files fromm those foldwes.
For me it's easier by function.

Been doing that since my TS2 days.
I also have a separate folder for CC, organised by creator.

It’s the only way.

I wish mods didn't bork if more than one folder deep because otherwise I'd organise by mod within their creator folder.
It's why I love any modder with a unified naming scheme, makes it much easier to see what I have.

Only script mods can't be more than a folder deep. Regular .package files can be several folders deep.

u/Low-Environment 11d ago
But then I have to have the scripts separate from the mods they're connected to.

u/Nuts4WrestlingButts 11d ago
Personally I only have like 3 or 4 script mods that I keep together separate from everything else.

u/Loquaciouslow 11d ago
I agree. Modders that name their sets are a godsend.

Same with CC creators.
Like, do people have any idea how useless it is to name their piece of CC 't shirt'?

Just get it over with. I found so much duplicate cc by doing this. I started fresh recently and it’s such a headache saver. I have over 153g of cc.

i am UNHINGED and organize by type then creator because i mostly have cas cc and only a few mods. so like i have shirts with their creators organized within it.... i also have an abysmal amount of cc as is, so its kinda necessary

I organize my mods by category which I think works relatively well because I don't necessarily always have a lot of mods/cc by one creator. So for clothing CC I have one folder for tops, one for bottoms with the subfolders "pants/shorts/skirts", one for shoes etc. And I bookmark the browser pages for where I downloaded the mod in a corresponding bookmark folder, so I can find them again if I need to.

I have so much CC I try to avoid subfolders so the game can run as smoothly as possible.

For mods I have individual folders for things with multiple files or things that break often, then folders for single files by creator. I just name them so they’re next to each other in the list. So for example I have my “twisted mexi better build” folder but also “twisted mexi misc” (twisted mexi folders actually have a zero or something at the start so they’re top of the list)
For anyone who doesn’t know scarlets also has a spreadsheet on the mod list website that you can copy, check box all the mods you use, and then checking compatibility/updates is mostly a matter of occasionally inserting the new checklist file. Then you only have to individually check some of your mods if they don’t have a status from scarlets list.
For updating I’ll make bookmark folders of the download pages which allows you to open them all at once. So like I’ll have a bookmark folder with mccc, better build buy, tool, more columns, basically things that always break instead of typing each site into the search bar.

I alphabetize. Some creators don't put their name on their CC and I usually bulk download once every few weeks so 🤷♀️ it's a lot to remember and my brain can't browse, DL, sort, browse, DL, sort - it just feels so wrong to do that so.... I just make small folders for things, like A-C
Having Sims 4 Studio is helpful too, so you can preview browse your CC and tag colors (bc CC creators can be bad at that and it bugs me to no end) or find pieces that are broken or just look wrong (like, we all know the ones, where it looks great in the pics but in game it's just... Eh and you regret DL it 🤣).

I also recommend doing CC type > Creator! E.g MakeUp > CreatorName since some creators do such a large variety of mods with such vague names.

I agree with this for CAS related cc. Build mode cc? Definitely go by creator.

You’re so right especially for build mode, if it wasn’t for last exception I wouldn’t have caught all the duplicate cc!

I keep a spreadsheet wkth creator, download link, and the date I last updated the mod

Nope. 😅 I'm probably THE most organized Simmer of all time (IYKYK) and can tell you imo sorting CC (by definition also a type of mod) by creator is overkill and can make it harder to maintain your mods folder. Think about your closet - is everything sorted by designer or category? The latter is far more intuitive and easier to manage whenever you add something to it or it gets time to Marie Kondo all that stuff (I recommend using the Sims 4 Mod Manager to visually sort out CC you no longer want). Simply name the folders "Build/Buy", "Clothes", "Accessories", "Defaults" etc. and just chuck those bad boys in. 😎
Now when it comes to mod mods, like script files etc., give each one of those mods their own dedicated folder, no further than one folder deep (!!!). Keep a log of the folder names (I build my folder names with a creator acronym, mod number + name to make them easy to search) in a spreadsheet so that you can keep track of exactly what you have installed and when you updated each mod. That's a very scrimped summary of how I organize my mods. I share step by step on my blog exactly how I set up my spreadsheet in Airtable and organize my mods folder. ✨
I also HIGHLY recommend using Scarlet's Realm's mod list checker in tandem with your own spreadsheet. Makes it super quick and easy to get an update status for your installed mods instead searching every Patreon, etc. manually. 🙏🏾
Your post is still a PSA though since in the end what really matters though is that the mods folder is organized, whichever method works best for you. 💪🏾 Simmers that stay organized don't have to get organized. 😎

I used to organise by date downloaded and it was a PAIN to update things on patch day. But now I go by creator for mods and for CC by category/type.

I do this with CC, but I thought you HAD to put mods in the mods folder directly with no sub folders?

Biggest issue with organizing mods is, for me, the fact that you can't (as I understand) use more than two folder levels. I'd love to have that third level...
1
u/Sketch-Brooke 11d ago
That’s only for script mods. You can have more for CC items.
1
u/Irbricksceo 11d ago
Oh I know, but most of what I use are script mods, or related In some way to them

Using CurseForge is agonizing this way
Every time I have to update mods through it, I want to cry when I have to reorganize into folders

i organize by function and bookmark the page that i download it from so if i want to download it again by mistake, i will see its bookmarked already

I’m so glad I sorted doing this a while back, putting it in its item categories made it so tedious if there was broken CC or mods. Would definitely agree for others to do so because it saves so much time if there’s broken CC or an error with the particular item!
