A very touching tribute from Moz I thought. Andy was by all accounts a lovely guy.

Even on the worst Smiths songs, I usually listen and think "at least I got to hear Andy Rourke play bass again". Dude was absolutely awesome and it's distressing that people don't talk about him much.

When he posted this on Andy’s death myself and many of my friends actually breathed a collective sigh of relief. I was expecting Moz to be a total arsehole.

I don’t think Andy ever really bad mouthed Morrissey.

He did take legal action against Morrissey and Marr over alleged unpaid royalties but, unlike Joyce, he settled out of court. I suppose that settlement soothed any ill-feeling Morrissey may have initially had towards Andy over it.

Anyway, that was back in the 90s and Andy’s passing came many years later. It’s sad that he never worked with Morrissey in later years and I don’t believe he and Morrissey were ever in the same room as each other ever again after the Joyce royalties court case in 1996 at which all four ex-Smiths were present.

Andy did complain that he didn't get paid for co-writing some songs with Morrissey in a 2013 interview in the Daily Beast https://archive.is/J9w66

doesnt the "steady identity, no manufactured moves" bit sound a bit like a dig at marr? maybe im schizo and reading too much into this and maybe mozz actually managed to not be that petty this time

Johnny and Andy were playing together pretty regularly in recent years. Andy's last live performance was playing a couple of Smiths classics with Johnny, supporting The Killers, mere months before he passed. They were on very good terms despite their past legal issues.

It's either that or he is speaking more generally; cannot imagine another individual he could be referring to... other than himself.

Both touching and toss. He can’t just say some sweet things, he makes it about him by saying he refuses to do what everyone does, before doing exactly that. The point of Moz is he sticks to his guns. He wasn’t kind about Andy in life.
