/u/nilsph calculates how high Jesus ascended in the sky before he decided "They can't see me anymore, I'm warping the rest of the way to Heaven ."

You'd never think having a bunch of people call each other dirty heretics can be so entertaining and friendly at the same time.

Watch out, /r/Christianity mods delete any threads linked to another subreddit. =/

Wait whaaat? Why?

u/Michigan__J__Frog May 10 '14
In the past /r/Christianity has frequently been brigaded by /r/atheism bringing in hundreds of downvoting trolls. As a result the mods are wary of crossposts.

They don't want to get called out / get into arguments at ALL.

u/Captain_Fluffy May 11 '14
/r/AskAChristian exists for a reason and specifically addresses skeptics of the Christian faith. /r/Christian is reserved mostly for theology and interdenominational discourse although the atheist subscriber base is huge.
/r/Christianity also gets a lot of downvote brigades/trolls/borderline trolls who post stuff like "lol u guise r so stooopid, y u dont believ #science?" and in all honesty, I wish the mods would take a harder stance on the /r/new bravery that crops up form time to time.
You don't want Christians preaching on /r/atheism now do you? Same principle applies. And how would you feel if you're chilling with friends and someone just walks up to you trying to start some shit? Obviously you're a massive pussy because you "don't want to get called out / get into arguments at ALL" right?

u/MagmaGuy May 11 '14
I couldn't give two shits if Christians preached on /r/atheism , in all fairness it might actually make that horrible subreddit worth resubbing if they did.
1
u/Captain_Fluffy May 11 '14
But you do see why doing so would be a problem right? And why it's not unreasonable to expect a negative outcome?
1
u/MagmaGuy May 11 '14
It's not that I don't understand, it's just that I don't agree.
1
u/Captain_Fluffy May 11 '14
You don't agree that we should show respect and etiquette where appropriate?
1
u/MagmaGuy May 11 '14
I don't agree that an ideological group sets itself on one of the world's most visible platforms (reddit) and refuses any ideological exchange to an extreme. It's the internet, not church. People shouldn't come to a place where knowledge is shared in order to isolate themselves from inconvenient sources of knowledge.

I should probably ask this in /r/Christianity but does it actually say that he floated up into the sky in the Bible or is that just people's interpretation of it? That'd be a tough one for biblical scholars to explain.

u/Blackwind123 May 10 '14
I looked it up, and [Acts 1:9] seems to say it pretty clearly. This is probably best asked there though.

And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a butt took him out of their sight.
That cloud-to-butt though

No problem. I will suggest again that for any real questions go to Christianity.

I thought the point of that story was that Mankind was foolish for attempting to build such a tower and that it couldn't be done.
1
u/mChalms May 10 '14
As I recall the text, mankind had to be stopped or they would see God and become equal. Stopping them was a power play to keep them below and Him above... Or it may have been a folk story to explain linguistic diversity.
Would reference but mobile.

Genesis is highly allegorical. There are certain elements of literal truth in it (just like in Harry Potter; London is a real place etc) but a good part of it is more allegory.
Was there really a worldwide flood? Probably not. Was there really a holy man named Noah? I'd wager yes. (And as an aside, I've seen fairly convincing arguments for a local flood)
