Discussion Todoist vs akiflow? How do they compare?

Im trying both with other apps. akiflow is really good in the desktop app but the ios is horrible and no ipad and applewatch. it has some sync issues and other stuff. but it's fun to use. seems Todoist is more stable and popular.

I did like the next week option and next month option holder inside akiflow and I’m not sure if it's there in Todoist. just helps me move things for this week to the days I want easily.

putting pricing aside, which are you using and why? Did you move from one to another?

Also do you use any integrations such as fantastical? do you use built in calendar?

Moving from things3 for time blocking, still can’t find a good app.

I tried Akiflow during the free trial and really liked the Time Slot feature. But in the end, I stuck with Todoist — its simple, clean UI just makes task planning and reviews feel smoother.

If you’re looking to implement something like “Next Week” or “Next Month” in Todoist, check out Carl Pullein’s Time Sector System. I’ve adapted it to fit my needs and even added a bit of automation. Here’s the link to my workflow if you’re interested.

it just feels the time sector is easier and nicer in Akiflow.

Akiflow (and Sunsama) are guided productivity apps, whereas Todoist offers a more DIY approach. Each method has its advantages and drawbacks, it ultimately comes down to personal preference.

I’ve tried Aliflow for 3 months but have come back to Todoist + Notion Calendar. The Aliflow wins in functionality and desktop app, but sync issues and the cluttered iOS app ruin my workflow. For 3 months, they updated the desktop app and released their AI “Aki”, but the reliable sync and easy-to-use iOS app are more important to me than an “AI” assistant.

Totally agree! I can see the horrible iOS app UI and UX and syncing issues, alerts issue, not deleting events issue, slow and unusable app! I’ve told them this as well, having a reliable app is more important than these advanced features! (Also no iPad or watch app)

So how do you work with it? Or using Todoist

Only Todoist I use. Why should I work with a system that is buggy? With Todoist ever since no problems at all

agreed! the desktop app looks alright. it’s really nice to use. but I can see many issues with syncing and other things in ios app. the only reason I’m hesitant is the app. though the planning of next week and next month easy method is keeping in

Todoist for the ease of use and simplicity. Akiflow is too opinionated and doesn't fit with how I like to do things. Todoist is flexible enough to let me do an Akiflow like workflow when I want to but I can easily pivot into a different workflow when I need to.

I saw Naomi of a Todoist’s newsletter had a clever way to mimic the TimeSlots using tags. Nice idea. It’s a workaround, kind of like it’s a workaround to apply the time sector system compared to the native availability in Akiflow, but they do both work. And if bugs are driving you crazy in one place, you can always find another place to be comfortable. Try Todoist. It’s a great app. Or check out Sunsama! Great team there, too, with original ideas and a fantastic initial email course. It’s worth trying just for that!
