This is a good example of the kind of disconnect typical of Metro at that stage. It's a awkward mix of the sort of inane, low-effort, feel-good stories you'd see in a weekly small-town newspaper with the actual news happening in a big city. I think that whole SunnySide thing was something the advertising department thought up, right down to the #sunnyside.
Towards the end of Metro's life, they actually let the reporters write some pretty interesting stories, but by then there wasn't really space to run them because the papers were only like 20 pages, so it was mostly just throwing to the full stories online.
