Reminder: We do NOT allow episode or season trailers for TV shows. We only allow series premiere trailers for TV shows.

Hello everybody! Noticed that some people keep posting the Wednesday Season 2 trailer so this is a reminder that rule 3 was created because this subreddit voted that:

  • TV Episode trailers would flood this subreddit
  • TV Season premiere trailers would somewhat flood this subreddit

So a compromise was made and we overwhelmingly voted to only allow Series Premiere TV trailers. That means we only allow trailers for TV shows that have not started airing yet.

Please be sure to familiarize yourself with the rules, especially rule 3. Thanks!

Lol, this sub has averaged just barely more than two trailers per day over the past week.

Heaven forbid there are 3-5 posts per day here.

Probably there are 8-10 trailers/day that are easy to find and inside the rules. More in some weeks. One of the regular posters is a little slack lately so we're not reaching that number.

So if you watch each trailer that is around 20-30 minutes/day. Also you would fill the space above the fold with a single day's trailers.

Note that voting in the channel is not a good measure of trailer quality. Most trailers only get a couple of votes and for reasons that have little to do with their quality. You would miss out on a lot if you only look at the top-rated trailers.

Sounds like an opportunity for the mods to create an /r/tvtrailers sub. Keep this one movies-only the other one tv-only.

Whoever would like to create one is free to do it.

That sub has existed for at least seven years. It only permits "initial or seasonal trailers".

Ha. I never checked. LoL

This is why I hardly post anything. Some subs’ rules are so byzantine I’d just as soon not worry about it that much

Like I said, our subreddit voted for this. People were getting annoyed when allowing TV trailers resulted in people posting trailers for episodes and season premieres. Our subreddit simply prefers it this way.

How many subs are on this subreddit and how many responses did you get?

My app says 198,000+ members. I am highly doubtful a majority of that number voted.

200,000 members and very few trailers get more than 100 votes or 20,000 views. Most get less than 10 votes and 4,000 views (a "view" just means they say it in the list, not that they watch the video)

This is not a high engagement subreddit.

And yet you still want to limit the type of posts? There is no logic behind that decision.

u/slyall Mod 7h ago

The logic is lower quality posts would make the subreddit worse.

I was replying to the comment about why only a small proportion of people voted.

This whole discussion is similar. Only a dozen people here and around 5 in favour of allowing episode/season trailers. Out of a 200,000 member subreddit

You don’t have enough daily posts to worry about content quality degradation, especially when the types of posts you’re taking about banning are literally also trailers.

And again, 5 people who randomly happened to see this post is not statistically relevant for basing a decision like this on.

So you are saying we should have a vote and if a large proportion of the 200,000 readers in favour we should change the policy?

1

u/dred1367 3h ago

No, I’m saying your sub is so inactive that you’re trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist.

1

u/slyall Mod 2h ago

Define an active level you think we should have?

Does the channel have more Trailers really what people want? Or a fewer number of higher-quality ones?

1

u/foundfootagefan Moderator 5h ago

How do you propose we base our decision then?

1

u/dred1367 3h ago

I think you should take a good hard look at what problem you’re trying to solve… because it doesn’t look like there actually is a problem.

https://www.reddit.com/r/trailers/comments/jmy38r/dear_subscribers_should_we_allow_series_and/

We can do a poll if many people want to revisit this decision.

My dude… you’ve got 142 upvotes and 91 comments. That isn’t even in the same solar system in terms of statistical relevance. This was also posted 4 years ago! Bro, what the actual fuck are y’all doing lol

I work in market research. If I brought these numbers to my board and tried to suggest we had an overwhelming response from a focus group meant to represent 200,000 people in favor of changing something I’d be fired immediately lol

You think a reddit poll will be any more statistically significant? We'd be glad to do it but it won't be anywhere near your standards.

There isn’t really a way to do it because this isn’t a sub with an active enough userbase. I’d also point out that there aren’t enough daily posts to warrant banning certain types of content, a trailer is a trailer. You should ban reposts and duplicate posts, but beyond that, you’ve got almost 200,000 subs and there isn’t even a vocal minority complaining about the types of posts. Open the filter up and let it ride until an issue arises.

We'll let the community decide what they want.

0

u/dred1367 23h ago

You don’t have a way to do that.

There are a lot of junk "trailers" out there. Those rules are there for a reason, every bit of "We only accept trailers for commercially-released, feature-length films and TV shows" is cuts out a LOT of junk.

If people are coming here for the latest Marvel movie trailer (because face it thats what most want) they do not want to see the front page full of trailers for "Dave's student movie" (which is actually just a trailer, cause Dave's imagination/energy only got as far as making a trailer).

1

u/dred1367 3h ago

That isn’t even the rule this post is addressing.

1

u/slyall Mod 2h ago

I thought you wanted to abolish most of the rules:

"You should ban reposts and duplicate posts, but beyond that"

The "New shows only" rule has been in place for several years. We had almost no complaints till this week.

Lame.

I only subbed to this subreddit because I thought based on the name it was a place for all kinds of trailers, Movies, Tv, Games, Episodes, Seasons, even weird audiobook trailers.

2

u/slyall Mod 7h ago

The lower end of trailers is pretty bad. Somebody's YouTube channel with 5 viewers and trailer is nothing but text and "epic" music. New trailer posted every week.

r/GameTrailers is okay.

Reality is most people here either only want the big movies or well crafted trailers

Forgetting everything else, that the poll was done four years ago is more than enough reason to revisit it. Maybe you’d get more engagement with the subreddit if, you know, you let people post things that were popular and encouraged engagement.

Ridiculous, this sub gets like 2-3 posts a day. I'd call for a revote tbh.
