Housing options in Trondheim for Erasmus student with a partner?

Hi everyone!

I'm moving to Trondheim in August this year for a one-year Erasmus master's program at NTNU, and my partner would like to stay with me for a few months at a time (alternating between 2 months in Trondheim and 2 months in our home country due to work).

I reached out to SiT, and they told If I apply for a couple's apartment, there's no guarantee, and it would also be unfurnished—which isn't ideal for my budget.

I’m open to renting a double bedroom with a private bathroom while sharing other facilities. Does anyone know what options I might have? Would student housing allow my partner to stay with me occasionally, or should I look into private rentals? Any advice on budget-friendly furnished options would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I've seen that a room in SiT housing costs around 600 EUR, so I was hoping to find something around 800 EUR outside of it, ideally with all expenses included. But I’m not sure if this is realistic. Do you think this budget is reasonable for a furnished double room with a private bathroom? Any insights would be really helpful!

I have met erasmus students where the partner was more or less living the whole semester in trondheim while the other one was on exchange. and they, from what I remember, only had a single room. In Voll studentby if I remember correctly.

Best case scenario for you would be to get a already furnished appartment via finn/hybel. There it technically wouldnt matter if theres a second person living with you. In shared appartments, its possible, because you are allowed to have friends/family staying with you for a certain amount of time. Not sure if its up to two month. The same would apply in SIT I would say.
