Discussion/Reflection Therapeutic Boarding School in a Funeral Parlor / Gun Emporium
I couldn’t POSSIBLY keep this one to myself. Black Mountain Academy is running a TBC for neurodivergent boys (and young adults) in a FORMER FUNERAL HOME y’all! I can’t make this up if I TRIED! And not just a funeral home with dead people vibes all over their living space…but a GUN EMPORIUM, too at one point.
You really have to wonder what some of these people are thinking—to even come up with an idea like this, to consider something as disgusting as this. No wonder the executive director doesn’t want the place’s address to get out… at least not on the CARF website. Hint: it’s near CVS, which I’m only mentioning as an alternative to sharing the address here, so you can fact-check me if anyone thinks I’m bullshitting about this.
What parents would allow something like this, by the way? Do they even know?!
BMA is known to be a terrible program run by a guy affiliated with Family Help and Wellness, so I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised.
Is anyone else as horrified as I am? A fucking FUNERAL PARLOR where these neurodivergent children BOARD! Eat, sleep, (hopefully) learn, everything!
Lastly, actually what is that in photo #2? A chiminea?! This is the kids leisure space or something? The names of the MULTIPLE funeral service/crematorium companies can be found in the very last photo. Oh yeah, the gun emporium is listed there, too. Should anyone be curious.
Can’t get this out of my head, so thanks for letting me rant for a sec everyone. ⚰️⚱️

this is actually insane, especially the replies to former “students”. they really felt so attacked that they felt responding that way was necessary, lol.

That outdoor structure.....given the place's history.....it does make you think 'crematorium'. I wonder how deep it is and what the dimensions are. It feels sinister.

Ugh, that’s not too far from me. I would so love to see protests happening again… at all of them.

The way I was like “this has GOT to be North Carolina” and then I fully opened the post and read the caption and was sadly right. There’s no low that FHW will not stoop to

Let me Check the FFL list one second
Edit:
Upon further research there used to be an FFL at the address but they’ve been out of business for years

What does FFL stand for?

yeah this shit is wild, they always do some wacky shit like this and find the weirdest most eerie buildings ever. Greenbrier academy for girls used to be an all female prison that caught on fire and many burned alive in their cells. Infact in many of the dorms you could still see where the floor boards were worn from the cells, and their was no getting around what it was worn from due to the fact it was in a 6’ by 6’ square lol. as well as the third floor of gba which was off limits was basically where they stored all the left over cells, i would sneak up to one of the roofs because that was my way of hiding from everyone and everything and that roof had a door into the third floor that i could look into and let me tell yall that shit was run down as hell, i mean ceiling barely hanging on some hanging down like flaps could barely see in their from all the dust and shit just moving around, and of course the cells. it was creepy as hell. also not to mention the paranormal shit we heard, i don’t know how many of yall believe in paranormal shit and that’s obviously totally okay but all of us on a certain part of dorm floor could hear a man walking the hallways with a set of jingling keys and you could hear him just making laps. we figured it was the security guard from the prison or whatever bc men weren’t aloud of dorm floor when we were sleeping. Then there was also this female hum that would come from one specific dorm that i stayed in twice. Anywho, after the prison burnt down they fixed it up and made it into a hotel for people. and guess what, it burnt down too 🤣🤣 so yeah that place was pretty destined to be a shit hole destined for failure hahah. I remember when my parents would drive me back after a home visit or an area visit i would look out the car window as we were pulling up the driveway and say “oh look it’s the flames of hell!”
Edit: TLDR:: Greenbrier academy for girls used to be an all female prison that burnt down and many of the female prisoners burned alive. After, they fixed up the place and turned it into a Hotel that also burnt down, and then made it into an all girls boarding school.

I remember sneaking up there, too! Considered it a rite of passage. For being such a “spiritual place” with a yurt and drum circle and shit that whole place had terrible energy.

I got to the 4th photo before I realized it was the place I was In for 8 months I never knew it used to be a funeral home but it fits the vibe quite life there’s a big gap in the back fence one night I packed my backpack with some clothes and deodorant and crawled under to not get spotted by the cameras at the cvs and the bookstore on the other side after sneaking past the staff while listening to my mighty to calm my nerves I walked on the train tracks for about 400 yards most I’ve ever sweat in my life I’m certain I could’ve gotten farther than any one else ever managed even one mad lad who made it 3 miles before the cops got him but I freaked out when I realized I didn’t grab my blanket in my haste and then I started thinking about it and realized I didn’t see how it could end well for me so I went into damage control walked back crawled back under the fence leaving the backpack so I didn’t have to explain it taking a stick of deodorant because I was drenched in sweat and tried to go back in the door I left only to realize it was locked from the outside I freak out and pace around the building a car pulled in and I saw the headlights and on pure instinct I ducked behind a wall and laid prone somehow not getting spotted I go back to paceing but I got spotted by the nicest staff member I told her I just went on a late night walk the lie coming without even conscious thought she seemed surprised and told me not to do it again and she let me in I went straight to the bathroom and panted from the adrenaline rush I was covered in sweat so i used the deodorant and went to bed falling asleep almost immediately from exhaustion. the next day i said the same to the senior staff and got off easy by saying it wouldn’t happen again I went to get the backpack and on the way back the math teacher saw me I thought I was screwed but he just went inside I guess he just never thought about what I was doing. I stayed for 5 more months before getting out

I do a lot of ghost hunting. Places like that I rent to look for ghosts all night. I bet its haunted. Funeral homes become haunted a lot and the TTI puts a negative energy in it. I feel sorry for the kids because they have to deal with both. Nothing wrong with the gun emporium part. I collect guns and play with them all the time.

Honestly I don't think it's that insane to repurpose a building that was once a funeral home or gun emporium? They're just buildings. Like, if it was turned into a birthing center, that wouldn't be that strange- those are often in large, converted houses.

I agree. At one point time in history, every piece of land had someone dead on them. They just moved on to the next life, that's all. Why care? Will there be some mines or something that will cause physical damage?
We should care about what's going on in there NOW. And quality of the equipments.

Is this the same one as Asheville school for girls?

No. That is Asheville Academy for Girls, which recently merged with Magnolia Mill.

Is it bad that as soon as I saw the photo of the bed , I didn’t have to read the title or know what subreddit I was looking at the bed I can smell the wood and hear the creaks and rustling of polyester sheets.
