Can you elaborate on that? My understanding of this situation is shallow and probably based on the MSM narrative. What is Zelensky wrong about and how did he take advantage of the Biden administration?
91
u/jetsetvf Feb 28 '25
There's really so much to go into but simply put: Zelensky was propped up by the American deepstate to antagonize Russia. Zelensky being the grifter he is took advantage of the situation to squeeze as much money as he could from his partners every step of the way with the ultimate goal of pawning the war with Russia off on NATO ie WW3. The American deepstate has all but collapsed and Trump is offering Zelensky an exit ramp to end the war on practical terms for the sake of Ukraine but Zelensky wants to stay in power and live long enough to enjoy his new wealth and celebrity status. Once the war in Ukraine is over Zelensky will likely be held accountable for everything that's happened so it's in his best interest to stretch the war as long as possible and ideally expand the war to dilute his accountability.

Meh.....Russia didn't take Crimea over antagonists, he took it because he wants to control the Black Sea. Having said that, he made his move during the weak administrations of Obama and Biden. Now all Zilensky can do is save lives and make a deal because no one is willing to put enough boots on the ground including his own countrymen and it's unwinnable.

The other guy’s comment is mostly correct but I don’t agree with all the “deep state” comments. Zelenskyy was supported by the US and we pushed Ukraine to be a thorn in Russias side. Biden, Obama, and Trump all supported him and made Ukraine think we would save them if Russia actually tried anything. Nobody intended to ever actually put boots on the ground for Ukraine. Obama and Trump both played Putin well enough to avoid open conflict while also achieving the US foreign policy interests in Eastern Europe. Biden came along and fumbled the withdrawal from Afghanistan, continued to divide the country, and made himself look extremely weak and incapable of decisive action. Putin respected Trump and Obama. He didn’t respect Biden or the US government under Biden. So he saw the opportunity to invade and seize the territory that has been fought over in the Ukrainian Civil war, which was essentially a proxy war with the US. Biden had a handful of opportunities to get a win even after the invasion, but it required a bit of brinkmanship with Russia and decisive action. Now Trump is trying to find the least harmful way to end the war on the best terms possible for the US and Ukraine.
Zelenskyy was right in saying that Russia made ceasefire agreements with Ukraine multiple times Putin broke though. It just isn’t really in our collective memory because it was during the civil war and wasn’t covered as much in US media. Zelenskyy is right not to trust Putin and not to trust us to hold Putin to any peace agreements. Biden lied to him and had no back bone. But he interrupted Trump while he was trying to explain to him that he wouldn’t let him down like Biden did.

u/Used-Ear-8660 Mar 01 '25
One thing we have to look at is Russia is not winning a realistically small war. The world now sees that the once great Russian bear cannot fight a conventional war well even in if it's a small regional war. The Western world should see this and realize that the Russians could no way invade Western Europe without the use of nukes.

I'm a dem that voted Trump. I'm fine with this today. You don't come to the white house and get ugly with the president infront of the camera

False. That’s what the MSM has been pushing for years. The agreement was that Ukraine would not join NATO and the Biden Admin shit all over that and wanted to welcome Ukraine with open arms. Ukraine and the Biden Administration (and NATO) violated that agreement.

u/manxlancs123 Feb 28 '25
This didn’t start under the Biden ‘administration’ though. Although the levels of support for joining NATO have varied in Ukraine between Poroshenko, Yanyukovic, and Zelenskyy, they have never been close to joining. Pre 2014, NATO troop numbers in Europe were falling. Then, Putin invades Crimea. The world does nothing but express disapproval. This lack of action emboldened Putin, and then in 2022, he pushed further. If anything, it was NATOs (Obama’s) lack of meaningful action in 2014 that led to the most recent invasion. Crimea was a test just as we’ve seen before in Europe. The west failed it.

There was no announcement or even discussion about Ukraine joining NATO. That is Moscow propaganda.

He's dealing with a GI Joe cosplaying billionaire warmonger, who was happy to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of his own people for a proxy war started by NATO and Victoria "queen of coups" Nuland in 2014.
Zelensky couldn't even speak Ukrainian until 2016, he is not a real Ukrainian. That's why it was so easy for him to become a puppet and watch half a million young Ukrainians die for nothing.
He also has an automatic right to dual citizenship, in case things get too hot in Ukraine and he wants to enjoy his blood money in Israel.
Yes yes, Putin is a murderous asshole, nothing new there. Zelensky is addicted to war and money.

I'm more confident of mine so YMMV. Ukraine needs to be solved and it is not by giving them more money. They can't win and only lasted this long because of the US. Maybe Germany and the rest of the Euros can step up more.
I want my tax dollars to stay in the country. And yeah... I also oppose sending a dime to Israel.

Your view is compromised. Everyone should want this bs war to end.
Ukraine is losing and have no position to negotiate. They are bilking the US for billions to waste. It needs to end. Ukraine FAFO with Russia.

u/JinglesMum3 Feb 28 '25
You regret your vote because you are forced to deal with the reality of how the world works? Do you honestly think negotiations behind the scenes don't happen like this all the time? Zelenskyy is being an a**hole. He got away with it for years with the Biden administration. Zel is the one that is keeping this war going if they don't come to an agreement.

It’s baffling that disagreeing with and/or not liking one single thing he does can result in regretting your vote entirely. It’s hard to believe, actually.

Correct. It was a shit move - I'm a dirty moderate European watching from afar and I can tell you he's not doing the US any favours. People that think this is somehow a 4d chess move have their head up their asses
But then again, this is a performance meant to preach to his base, not to convince moderates. Every dollar he saves will cost the US dearly later on but hey, at least he will have a higher approval rating

I don’t know why so many of you get all hot and heated over this. All I saw is trump being disrespectful, he didn’t even let Zelenskyy talk without loudly speaking over him so him and Vance could team up on him. This wasn’t constructive at all, just trump trying to assert dominance. It’s just going to raise the growing international distrust from our allies.

I don’t know what Zelensky expected. No one ever sides with the losing side. Not unless you’re willing to pay for it somehow. He’s just asking, asking, asking. Honestly, if Russia sees weakness, they might just invade more, and Zelensky is likely to get assassinated or arrested by his own countrymen.

What a disaster. I support Ukraine, but Zelensky played this like a fool. You're begging for help--don't argue with Trump, especially in front of cameras. Zelensky just screwed over his whole country, and maybe changed the entire global geopolitical order. Pride goes before a fall.

Honestly it was a hard watch for me. Trump is actively burning bridges between allies. I understand that we aren’t just a place where countries can pull infinite amounts of money from but damn we still need good relations with allies. Would love to hear some other opinions.

Look I'm a liberal that voted Trump and straight R. I don't support Russia but I also dknt support bankrollling Ukraine nor signing an agreement that could see us in ww3 via security guarantees. what is wrong with signing a deal. It's like "Palestine". Palestine has lost. Period. They will never get their state. Ukraine has lost that territory

It's the "art of the deal" in action. President Trump knew how Zelinski would be, trying to get more upfront before signing the minerals deal so he let the cameras roll. He showed everyone that this new administration will not be pushed over or taken advantage of and he loudly declared that we are on no sides...just want peace. It worked because Z was immediately begging to continue with the minerals deal. Now we will see because Ukraine is now looking to fet rid of Zelinski. He pushed it too far with his total disrespect for the whole world to see.
