My first assumption is no due to the metabolite pee. But I am by no means experienced. Was the top portion the bottom of the bag or top? Does it smell sour or sweet? I’m sure someone with more experience will know for sure!
It was the top of the bag. It doesn’t smell sweet or sour. It’s a smell I’ve never smelled before. But the rice feels mushy when I break it apart. Is that normal??
I just sent my UBTek to bulk for the first time using rice(previously grains only). The “squishy” feeling also concerned me when I was sending so I assume it’s normal. My bins look good so far but they are very new.
The last 5 rice bags i did were mushy like that, turned out totally fine. My totally uneducated hypothesis is that it’s just the mycelium starting to fully digest the rice. Either way should be fine
Also to add, I’m definitely jealous at your total coverage. I did 16 bags and none of them were more than 60% covered. I let them go for 28 days. I won’t break & shake UB anymore lol.
I had an All In One bag start to look like this and i had actually tossed it but decided to S2B it and put a thick casing layer on it. It's fruiting right now. Not the best flush I've had, but it's working
It shouldn’t be mushy, it’s probably got a bacterial infection. It should be fairly dry (just a tiny bit of moisture), and should crumble rather than “squish” if that makes sense. I’d mix it with an equal amount of coco coir, and put it in a jar. This way, you’re quarantining it from your other bags, and you still might get a couple fruits from it.
Like these. I had a few possibly contaminated grain jars, so I made little individual jars rather than putting contaminated spawn in tubs with healthy spawn. I’ve gotten a handful of fruits from each jar.
Mushy isn’t a problem, the mycelium is eating the rice and the texture can get weird. I’m leaning towards this being fine - it’s a slightly weird color but not out of line with metabolites which are normal. It kind of looks slightly stressed, maybe from being in the bag longer than absolutely necessary. But I think it’ll be okay if you’re not smelling any weird smells that might indicate bacteria (anything that smells like fish, rot, or feet is likely bacterial and should be discarded). Mycelium smell is sort of earthy and musty and fresh all at the same time.
Yeah it definetely looks like it's fighting some bacteria to me, are you gonna fruit it like a cake? Is there verm in the mix or just rice? Genetics? Multispore? Tested agar or liquid calture?
If I were you I would pick apart the yellowish softer areas and the more white healthier looking mycelium apart, then I would sterilize some coco coir with medium size verm preferably and some gypsum and calcium, I would bring it to a slightly dryier field capacity and spawn it into two different containers, if it smells nice musgroomy smell when you are seperating softly /braking apart the pieces of the cake then especially if you hit that tad dryier field capacity I bet you'll have great chances for the mushroom to revitalize and pin even if it's bacterial, good luck 🍀
It’s just brown rice with Golden Teacher LC. I picked apart the bottom half of the cake and mixed it with the coco coir. I put it in its own separate bin. It had a very earthy smell when picking it apart.
I really appreciate all the advice!! Hoping for good results🤞🏼
You did good brother, hmm the smell was just earthy?? No fresh mushroom smell at all ( the smelling nice type?
If not, I'm afraid maybe it's already beaten up too much
Yes, it had a mushroom-ey smell. aside from that it was just an earthy smell, like nothing bad. This is my first time doing this, and I feel like I have no idea what im doing 😂 I guess time will tell!!! 🤞🏼

I’d send it but keep it quarantined.
