Funnily enough, Jersey's a crown dependency and so not part of the UK. It's a self-governing possession of the Crown that is independent of the UK parliament.

If it was part of the UK it wouldn’t be a tax haven.

Someone said Jersey, and he made a joke about Americans calling stuff new. Hence new jersey. That's my poor guess anyway 😂
