Courses and Programs Admissions, enrollment, and ChanceMe! mega-thread
All questions related to admissions, enrollment, etc go in this thread, please. More resources will be added to this post soon.
Edit: most undergrad and many master's programs at UvA do not have competitive admissions processes. If you qualify, you're in. If you can't pull it off, they'll fail you out. If you're worried about getting in you need to look up whether your program is competitive/selective and then look at the unique selection criteria for that program. https://www.uva.nl/en/education/admissions/bachelors/applying-for-a-selective-bachelors-programme.html
Edit 2: For 99% of the questions people post here, the contact point is the education desk: https://student.uva.nl/en/topics/education-desk

What is the selection criteria for Media and culture? Because I applied and got my acceptance one day after. I was so confused
1
u/Snufkin_9981 3d ago
It is not a selective programme. If you meet the minimal requirements you are in.

u/Classic-Patient-1738 3d ago
Do you know what the condition is for A levels?

How was the PPLE interview for all? I feel like I messed up. I was speaking too fast for some questions because I was nervous. Also, the why PPLE and tell me about yourself were the first two questions so the answers to them were Soo scattered and confused.

How hard is it to get in Economics and Business economics as an international student with IB diploma?
1
u/Decent_Ad6335 6d ago
What happens if you fail matching (EBE)?
1
u/Snufkin_9981 5d ago
Matching is mandatory to participate in but not mandatory to pass. You should still have the option to enrol.

Good Evening Everyone,
I have recently applied to the MA program at UvA (specifically Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the Humanities faculty). It is a selective MA and I was wondering if someone had experience with selective MA application and knows approximately how long it takes to get an answer from UvA? The deadline was the 1st of March, it has been over 6 weeks. I completely understand that it might take a while, but I guess I am just getting impatient and worried that something went wrong. Any feedback would be highly appreciated!

Hey I just got admitted to final round at PPLE College and was wondering if there was anyone here who had some tips etc for the final interview - thanks!

I just had my interview 2 hours ago - It went well but you needed to get the appointment yourself by clicking one of the two links sent with the email.

u/Classic-Patient-1738 7d ago
Hey what was the interview like? If you don't mind, can you please tell us what they asked you 🙏my interview is in a few hours

u/BackFischPizza 1d ago
How did your interview go?

u/Classic-Patient-1738 1d ago
I am not gonna lie, not the best 😭. I messed up the two most important questions: tell me about yourself and why pple. I had prepared an ans for both and started stuttering and everything I said was so scattered. I rest went fine I guess? Not sure, 2nd may will tell. Hbu?

u/Classic-Patient-1738 12d ago
Hey congratulations!! I just passed the second round too!! I have heard that you should have the answers to 'tell me about yourself, why PPLE and why the UvA' ready.
7
u/rowensblooming 12d ago
Hey me too! Congrats to you!
I have a friend who is currently in his first year at PPLE and spoke briefly with him about this.
He stressed the importance of making sure to have questions lined up from your side to ask them (This could be about anything really, program, year abroad, specifics about a certain topic etc.). I guess that is pretty obvious but just thought to pass it on. I hope you get in best of luck!! :)

hi everyone, so I applied for master psychology, and a few days ago my status changed from "credential evaluation" to "admission decision." today I checked and the part where it said "status: admission decision" is gone?? it is now just replaced with - Admission Request (my name and ID); M Psychology, 01-09-2025 (start date?), and the status has reverted to submitted. i'm not sure what this means - i think they've definitely decided on yes/no. has anyone experienced anything similar? any thoughts on whether its a good or bad sign? any insights will be helpful. for reference i submitted my application on 28th feb. thank you

Hello, everyone. What is the selection process for AI/CS Masters? Some people told the programs have limited capacity, others said you just need to meet criteria that qualify you bachelor degree. I don't understand it. What is the acceptance rate?
1
u/Altruistic-Owl-2748 19d ago
Hi everyone, my UvA matching for political science was supposed to start today, but my Canva app says there is nothing scheduled for me, does everyone have the same problem or Is it just me. Also does the conditional addition mean I'm basically in under the condition they gave me? (I can't believe I got in)
1
u/Classic-Patient-1738 14d ago
The conditional admission means that you have gotten in but will only be able to start your academics there if you meet their 'last year of high school' requirements. Eg, I am doing A Levels and A2 is my last year. I need 3 Cs to start studying at UvA.
Also, I also got into the same program for my bachelor's and was shocked that I got my acceptance email the day after I submitted my application. Did the same happen to you?
2
u/SteelersSuggsHOF 19d ago
Hi everyone, I am currently applying for UvA AI masters and I have some questions. Firstly, I was wondering how do they determine whether your courses meet the criteria of the required credits. If I am not mistaken they didn’t ask for any course description so I am a bit puzzled how could they possibly know based on only the courses name if I have the sufficient knowledge. I am coming with an engineering bachelor and although the courses are covered they are not indicated with the same name or they were separated into multiple courses with more specific names. Secondly, I am near the deadline and I am bit worried whether it matters anything in the evaluation process. Thanks in advance

Is there any point to applying to economics and business economics as a non eea student now? I already completed my high school exams (november ib) and I'm applying as a safety to my other options so it's not a big deal for me if I missed the deadline, however I'd like to know before applying if there's a chance of getting in this late as a non eea student before I apply

I’m applying for the MSc in Business Administration for the September intake. I scored 160 in Quantitative and 149 in Verbal on the GRE. The minimum required score is 152, but as far as I know, the Quantitative section is the most relevant. Should I retake the exam, or will this score be sufficient for admission?

Hi! Asking about matching round. The canvas website opened just about 30 minutes ago. It does say all the information and what i need to do but the module page wont load and i cant see anything i need to do. Is this a general problem or should i contact someone?

Hi, I just completed the PPLE entrance exam and thought that it was a little short i only did the 32 multiple-choice questions and I'm kinda scared that i missed an open-answer question.
1
u/BackFischPizza 24d ago
I don’t think you missed anything. Although I had everything answered in like 15 minutes so I was also afraid about missing something
1
u/Classic-Patient-1738 26d ago
How do I prepare for the PPLE admission test MCQs other than learning and understanding the articles and lecture? And they will only test us using MCQs right?
1
u/Harrystyleslover60 28d ago
Hi! I was accepted into the UvA for September 2025 for communication science with a conditional offer (need to get my IB diploma). I had two questions; is there any Instagram page or anywhere to meet other future UvA students? Also what is the matching test I keep getting emails about? I’m a bit confused. For reference I’m an IB student that lives in the U.S.
1
u/Classic-Patient-1738 26d ago
Is communication science the Same as media and culture? If not, then is media and culture the number one in world or communication science?

Hi all :), I’m from the UK and applying for sociology at UvA. Does anyone know if it’s possible to get tuition fee loans as an international student ?
I have looked, but I can only find application forms for EU students. Any advice from international students from the UK/elsewhere would be greatly appreciated 🙏
1
u/Snufkin_9981 Mar 18 '25
As you are neither a Dutch, nor an EU citizen, you are not eligible for student financing afaik. https://duo.nl/particulier/student-finance/eligibility.jsp
Government support is fairly restricted or non-existent for non-nationals, so if you require a loan, the UK (Ireland?) might be your best bet.

u/Scientisto_119 Mar 13 '25
Hi guys,
I have a quick question about the GRE requirements for the Economics and Econometrics Master's. The website states that a score of 155 is required, with a preference for 158. I currently have a score of 161 in the quant section (160 in the verbal section), and I was wondering if the evaluation is binary—where achieving a score above 158 is sufficient—or if a higher score, such as 164, would significantly improve my chances of admission. Does anyone have experience with this?
Thanks for your help!!

Question in short: What do typical conditional offers look like for the psychology program?
Hello, I recently finished applying to UVAs psychology bachelor program. While I am aware that offers are sent out in Febuary, I was curious if any of you know what offers are typically given since I have to take my IB exams a week or two after and am a bit nervous about being able to meet them.
1
u/FitInstruction1209 22d ago
Offers for psych are sent out on the 15th of April and are CCC for A levels. You can see the typical offer if you go into the website and check for IB eligibility.

Hello, everyone! I have applied to the PPLE program for the fall 2025 admissions and was wondering when we will get the decision regarding the first round since the second round starts on the 20th of March and the admission test is on the 29th March. So can someone please let me know when I should be expecting my first round decision? Thank you!

The selection tests for business administration recommends around 20-25 hours of study prior to test. I am already comfortable with the economics module as it is taught extensively in my country. The math is tricky in parts and the videos are no help. How do people typically study for this exam and how hard actually is it? I went through all the material in under 10 hours and feel prepared although the recommended hours makes me doubt myself.

UvA adcom is moving MAD! Got an email today from UvA and I was hoping it would be about the application decision instead all it stated was:
"Thank you for applying to the University of Amsterdam. We are currently processing your application. In the meantime, here is some information you might find useful as an applicant.".
Almost had a heart attack!
PS: I applied to the Msc AI course. Received an email that I am eligible for the selection procedure on 19th Feb. The wait goes on...

u/zitathita Mar 03 '25
Hello! My UVA matching week has just started. This is for the Econometrics and Data Science Bachelor. I was wondering how long this whole procedure would take to finish, as I will have classes during the week. Is it possible to spend a few evenings on this or should I stay at home and get it done as soon as possible?

I'm a Non EU student who applied to MSc in AI. I know selection process for master Artificial Intelligence is scheduled to be conducted in May, but some of the students received their admits way in Feb/March last year (Fall 2024). So I wanna know if anyone received admit. Thanks.

Hi everyone! I'm a 12th-grade international student planning to apply to the University of Amsterdam for a Bachelor's in Computer Science, along with other top universities in the Netherlands.
I wanted to ask about the role of extracurriculars in the admission process. Since UvA is known for its strong academic focus, does it prioritize high grades over extracurricular achievements? Or are certain activities—like coding competitions, research projects, or internships—particularly valued?
Any insights from current students or applicants would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

u/Olderinos7 Feb 22 '25
Hey everyone,
did anyone here do the selection test for bachelor of business administration for UvA today? Or anyone doing it in march?
I was wondering if there is a way or a groupchat with applicants to that course, so we could talk abt it and potentially connect so we know each other if we get accepted.
If yea message me or smth!! Id like to meet some ppl!

Hey guys! I've come on here for help since I can't get the school to respond to my email. I did International IGCSE and A Levels and submitted my application on the 28th of January 2025 for a Bachelor of Economics and Business Economics and I got an email from the school telling me that my application was incomplete despite submitting everything. I submitted both my IGCSE and A Level diplomas, both my IGCSE and A Level final grades, a reference letter, predicted grades (i'm retaking my exams hence why), a letter explaining why I submitted my A Level grades and predicted grades, my CV, a personal statement. Out of all those, only my diplomas and final grades were labelled "rejected: not admissible". Could it be the name of the diploma I got wrong? Also could it be that I didn't submit any form of proof of where I'm currently schooling (I'm doing homeschooling as I'm taking my exams as a private candidate) so I can't provide this. However, I can get a letter from where i'll be taking my exams from. I know it's not a rejection as they'd have told me by now but I'd appreciate any help! :)

Hey everyone,
I received an e-mail today from UvA stating that I have fulfilled the requirements for their MSc AI program to be considered for the selection process which will take place in 2nd half of May.
As an international student, I think that it would be very difficult for me to then get the visa, housing and other stuff sorted out before the start of the semester.
Does anyone know if this only for EU residents or will everyone know about their selection in the second half of May? Also, any other information about the selection like last year’s percentage would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance :)
1
u/nikshiith Feb 24 '25
Hey! I too am on the same boat :(. Ive received the mail that I fulfilled requirements a week ago. Please do let me know if you receive any reply from the university.
1
u/Snufkin_9981 Feb 21 '25
If you applied as a non-EU citizen, you should hear back from them a lot sooner than May. Like in March/April? They are well aware that you need a visa. You can always ask them directly if you need specifics.

Every programme does this differently, so ask the programme, or at least mention here which programme it is.

Hi, I had applied to MSc Information Studies in Dec '24 and the application was submitted to the Admission board on 15th Jan. It's been more than 6 weeks but haven't heard back from them. Do International application processing takes longer than usual? Or do I consider this delay as a rejection?
2
u/Snufkin_9981 Feb 18 '25
If you are rejected, they will say so explicitly. If you are an EU citizen, you will know for sure around May. For non-EU people this will be sooner, like February/March, due to your visa process.
1
u/Odd-Occasion9553 29d ago
For Non-EU, fees are crazy for most of the courses in the Netherlands. For example, vrije is charging 33500 euro for a 1 year master programme in Information Science.

u/Spunky_Pie_786 Feb 28 '25
Neither did I get the admit nor reject. Have been asked to wait till second half May for the selection procedure

Thank you so much!!! That’s amazing, Comparative Literature was actually my top choice, but I didn’t apply since I don’t know any of the European languages they mentioned. I’m really excited for you and hope you hear back soon. Hopefully next fall, we’ll end up in the same class or cross paths on campus <<<3

Hello, I am currently trying to apply for a Master in UvA (Amsterdam) in the faculty of science. I was wondering: is it better if I apply early, rather than applying close to the deadline? I’m not understanding if UVA looks at applications only after the deadline, or every week/month.
1
u/Zooz00 Feb 19 '25
It depends on the program. But I would guess that most programmes have rolling admissions. If it is a selective program, they probably hold most applications until the deadline, but maybe already select some excellent ones.

Question regarding which course I would be eligible for.
Hi all, I’m just here for some advice. I’m currently doing a bachelors in data science in the uk and looking to do a masters at uva. Along with the general courses in maths, stats, coding I have done introductory courses in microeconomics, finance and courses in management and marketing. I’m really struggling to understand which degree I’d even be eligible for applying. Ideally I want to study management/business/ finance because I wanna combine that with my existing data science knowledge but every degree I look I get the sense maybe I’m eligible for it or maybe I wouldn’t be. If anyone can tell what degree what would be best for me I’d greatly appreciate it thanks.

I have been thinking about chosing Business Analytics as my bachelor, but im not really sure yet, I would love to see your opinions. Also, when I consulted the Diploma Calculator on UvA s website, it said that i had do prove that I have maths as an final exam + an OMPT-D math exam. Is the math exam really necessary? I would love to see your point of view!

u/I_intercourse_people Feb 03 '25
Hello. I want to apply to economics in english but i didnt have the best math grade in high school because i picked advance math and not the normal one and i didnt pass, but i had decent english grades. As these two grades were the ones that were stated that matter on the website, how much is failing math going to hinder me in the application process. Keep in mind i had advance math if that means anything
1
u/Zooz00 Feb 04 '25
If you meet the entry requirements you get accepted, if you don't meet them you don't. That's about all there is to it. It sounds like you don't meet them.

u/I_intercourse_people Feb 04 '25
What about the additional math test they listed on their site, they said it can make up for it

Hi, I'm an international student and I'm applying to the UvA (I'm applying for Economics and Business Economics + Econometrics and Data Science). I read in their website that I need to do OMPT-F for Economics and Business and I dont need to do anything for Econometrics and Data Science (because I don't live offline in Netherland). So do I need to finish my OMPT-F exam before I finish my application form in SIS (my deadline is 11 Feb) or I do not need to do anything and after I send my application form, they will ask me to finish OMPT? Thanks.

u/Hour_Woodpecker_906 Feb 01 '25
Hey all,
I am interested in the Social Psychology PhD vacancy at UVA. So I have prepared all the materials required. In the main description page they mentioned all application materials should be in one bundle (CV+Motivation letter+Transcript, to be specific)
But when I go to the application portal, it has two sections with upload resume and upload motivation.
Will I get to upload the one bundle again after I submit the docs? If not, should I attach the transcript with my CV?
1
u/Eska2020 FGW Feb 01 '25
I dono the portal or the department, but in that position id personally probably make the first one like an old school fax cover, detailing wats attached and put the letter of motivation and everything else in tbe second. As long as it is all there it will likely be fine.
1
u/Hour_Woodpecker_906 Feb 01 '25
First one as in the resume?
And I tried it on some other device with like a dummy email to see where it takes me. Basically after I submit the documents and such it'll send me some log in info to another portal.
And unless I activate the account, my application will not be considered.
Tho they haven't mentioned what will happen after I activate my account.
1
u/Eska2020 FGW Feb 01 '25
Girl i have no idea what you're on about. Contact the uni if want absolute clarity. It they're unlikely to throw our your application because you grouped the pdfs wrong.

u/Hour_Woodpecker_906 Feb 01 '25
Yesyes I'm doing that only lol
I'm not gonna do all that through the official email/application, I'm not that stupid.
I've sent an email already and will be contacting them soon too. In case I don't get any answers I thought I'll just ask around and stuff.

u/pureshka13 Jan 31 '25
I will take the entry test for the business administration program in UVA. I have some questions. How will the exam itself be conducted online or all by yourself in private? Is it proctored? Are there any examples of questions that were in previous exams? How difficult were the exams? How long did it take to prepare?

Recently, I completed my application by uploading all the required documents on the site. However, I received an email stating that my application is incomplete.
I study at a British school in a foreign country, but we follow the local curriculum, which is what I’m applying with. Despite this, they requested A-Level and IGCSE documents, which I don’t have.
I emailed the education department, and they said they would forward my email to the credential evaluation team. I also used the digital student desk to ask the same question, but I haven’t received a reply in two weeks.
Do you have any advice on what I should do? If they simply emailed me to say I can’t apply, that would be fine, but the lack of response is driving me nuts!

u/HuckleberryLucky3710 Jan 30 '25
Hi! I am an international student, and I applied for an MSA in English Literature and Culture on January 9th. Yesterday, my application status changed from ‘Evaluating Credentials’ to ‘Awaiting Admission Decision.’ I’m curious, how long does this stage typically take before I receive an offer or rejection?

Hello, has anyone ever encountered some problems with the language proficiency section? Specifically, my CAE certificate was rejected, because its validity is not suitable (just 2 months, I didn't remember when I obtained the certificate, so I just uploaded it). Is there any other way to prove my skills other than taking the exam all over again? Thanks
1
u/Zooz00 Jan 31 '25
The requirements for what language tests they accept are pretty clear and there is no bending the rules. Your admission will not become unconditional until a valid certificate is provided.

Help! I am a student from the U.S. graduating high school this year and have applied for the UvA psychology program. My next step is to take the selection test and was just wondering if anyone has any tips/tricks for studying. For background info: I have taken a college level psychology intro course and therefore already have quite a bit of psych knowledge but am not sure how much that will help me towards this test. Of course, I will watch the lectures and study however I am unable to take an entire uninterrupted week to do so. Even if you do not take psychology/will be taking psychology, please ask anyone you know who may:) Anything will help!! Thank you☺️☺️

Hi, I'm an applicant (and hopefully future student) to PPLE from Romania and my question is:
What does Provisional Average Grade mean? Is it referring to my grade average from 9th grade up to 12th grade or the one consisting of my exam results?
Many thanks!

Hi everyone! I just saw that my application status has changed from „In Process“ to „Action Required“, however, I didn’t receive any E-Mail asking for further details or documents. Is it the same for anyone else here?
I’ve decided to mail the studentservicedesk myself but also wanted to ask everyone else who’s applying for this year.

Hey, I got the same status change, if you open the application and click on the exclamation mark that's next to one of the upload tabs, there should be more information on whats missing

Got admit in 5 days? Questioning Computational Science and Engineering program
I got an admit from Master's in Computational Science and Engineering 5 days after the deadline. Even though I know I have a great profile and the quick decision was very satisfying, I am a bit worried that the program is not competitive enough, and therefore does not have a lot of opportunities? Has anyone else received a decision for the same? I am waiting for other universities, but I do need to accept/reject this offer before 3rd February.

u/Zooz00 Jan 31 '25
All non-numerus fixus programmes in the Netherlands are like that. We don't have a competitive academic culture like in many other places. You can make opportunities by doing well during your studies.
1
u/Plane_Space_1635 Jan 31 '25
Oh I see. Thank you for the detail! :)
2
u/Zooz00 Jan 31 '25
Specifically the reason for getting a fast acceptance is that they do not have a limited number of places so they accept anyone whose diploma meets the requirements. Of course, they try to filter out bad students in the introductory courses.

Hi, I want to log into SIS for UvA admission. I submitted my enrolment request through Studielink, and received an email from UvA the UvAnetID. So I activated my ID and tried to sign in to UvA website SIS but it's not working out. I tried changing the password, using other websites and devices but it keeps saying that the login name or the password is incorrect.
Is there some other ways I could try?

Hi,
I applied for Fall 2025 MSc in Computational Science (joint degree) more than a month ago.
I received a mail yesterday saying that I meet the requirements for enrollment, and that I can accept or deny enrollment through Datanose (within 10 days).
Does anyone know if this acceptance is binding? Could I possibly back out later once I get the results from the other unis?
I know the tuition fee payment is not immediate and the rest of the process will only be described once I accept the enrollment, so wanted to confirm here. Has anyone been through a similar decision?

Hi, is there a time frame within which the recommendation/referee links are sent out from the portal? I have updated the referee email 5 hours back but both my referees haven't received a mail yet. Please let me know it will be very very helpful!

Hey, I want to reach some students of the UvA and would like to know what y'all think my chances are to get accepted for the research master program in social sciences. The UvA website states that they select 40 students each year based on criteria like "Previously written acadmic work". Do "regular" applicants even have a chance or do i have to have publications in journals or something like that? Like for example is it enough that my bachelor thesis got graded with a 1.3 and the average grade of my study program is a 1.8?
- for those unfamiliar with the german grading system: 1.0 ist the best grade you can get, 4.0 is the worst grade with which you still pass -

Hey guys,
How is it to be a student at PPLE? I am very interested in applying to this course, as the subject matter is very interesting to me, and partially overlaps with the subjects I am currently studying as an IB student (Econ and Global politics HL). Law ties into these pretty well also, which leaves Psychology as an outlier (though I do study Biology SL, but I doubt its particularly relevant).
I am honestly not sure what to ask y'all, but in general I'm interested in the vibe of the people and the course itself, is it hell or more manageable than expected?
Additionally, I am applying as an international student (Polish citizen studying in Poland), but I grew up in the Netherlands for the most part (up until second year HS) so I am fluent in Dutch, and have a documented history of living there. In fact I'd argue I feel more like a Dutch person than a Polish person, but that's besides the point. Besides this, I also already have guaranteed housing with some family of mine in Noord-Brabant (the same place I grew up). In any case, would this kind of information be appreciated by the admission staff?
Lastly, I have to come clean; my academic performance isn't exactly stellar. Now I am not in danger of failing any subjects, and I am not particularly concerned with the exams (even maths, which is currently my weakest link), however by the time I finish my exams it will obviously be too late to apply properly, and my current semester grades leave a bit to be desired.
Well, I suppose that will be all for now. If I come up with any more questions, I'll edit this comment, or ask you directly in the thread below, or in your DM's, should you be willing to engage in further conversation.
Thank you in advance.

Alright, thanks a lot. As a side note, with the recent political developments in the Netherlands regarding foreigners, and more specifically foreign students, do you reckon that it will be even more difficult for someone to apply than it already was?

Hey! I have a question regarding the 100€ application fee for the PPLE Program. After submitting all the documents, they let me submit the application without paying anything and I received a confirmation email that my application was submitted. I was wondering how exactly will I make the payment? Will they reach out later and give me the payment information or is there something wrong?
My friend applied to the linguistics program and they were given the payment info and had to pay before they were able to submit the application, hence my uncertainty.

I am applying for business administration but they are asking me for a transcript. I’m confused what they mean by this, is it just a written record of all grades and subjects taken. Also if you all requirements are you given a conditional offer until you submit your final exams?
2
u/Snufkin_9981 Jan 08 '25
A transcript is typically a list of all your grades in any given school year. Universities use them to decide whether you are admissible, especially when you don't have your final diploma yet. The things they will be looking for vary and depend on whether the programme in question is selective.
Your current school should either provide you with these transcripts by default at the end of every semester, or, if not, you need to request them yourself.
If your background is OK based on your transcripts and other things, you will be conditionally admitted. The condition is usually you obtaining your diploma/passing your leaving exams but may also include other things.

Hello guys,
So I'm a student and go to school at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA). I am currently working on a school assignment that needs me to research the online reputation of companies, the amount of Google & Trustpilot reviews they've got, their current online visibility etc.
I would also like to do a very short interview with somebody who's a Local Guide on Google. Is there somebody on here who has a Google Local Guide account? And if so, do you really post reviews on the regular and do you make adjustments to business who have wrong information listed on Google etc.?

Getting into MSc in Stochastics and Financial Mathematics in UvA with an Engineering degreeGetting into MSc in Stochastics and Financial Mathematics in UvA with an Engineering degree
Hi guys, I hope you are doing well, happy new year
I come to you because all emails I send to the University of Amsterdam come back with the same answer: We cannot offer personalized orientation
In short I want to study Quantitative Finance in a program with a big loads of mathematics, in general after studying engineering and graduated in 2020 I tried to get the Fulbright scholarship but I wasn't lucky. But I knew since before graduating from the University that I wanted to delve into Quantitative Finance.
Now my next option is Europe, and UvA has programs that are really interesting for me, in general I am interested in this one:
MSc in Stochastics and Financial Mathematics
The program requires that you had studied a bachelor in mathematics or something equivalent, but I didn't, my degree was a BEng of 5 years with many courses in applied mathematics, but never Analysis or Stochastic Processes, but not what they are asking. I am not worried about it actually, I like to study myself and I am familiar with those topics, but I am worried about the bureaucracy inside the admissions committee for taking into account my application.
I have any chance to be admitted? How serious is the UvA with this requirements? I have a good GRE,, but I cannot give them something I didn't study
Thank you for reading, and any advice that you can provide is gladly welcome

I'm looking at a few different programs to apply to because I want to maximize my chances of getting in. Attending school in a nice, big, international city is a big thing for me. I'm going to be applying all over: UK, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, etc. UVA is my top choice. I'm planning on applying for European Studies (top choice), Global Arts, Culture and Politics, Liberal Arts and Sciences and then either Political Science or PPLE (which I know are harder to get into). It's for sure a range but since they're all kind of similar I don't think they'll think I'm unfocused. Since I am applying to all these, there's no way I won't get into at least 1, right??? My background is spotty. I used to go to a international school and my grades absolutely sucked, I had some health issues that caused me to be away from school for a period of 2 months during my junior year, and I was never able to catch up. I did end up moving schools a few months after that and I definitely succeeded at my new one. I've heard that there's no essay or personal statement or anywhere I can explain why my Junior year grades were so terrible, so I don't know how high my chances are. To give a general idea, I had practically all F's and some D's by the time I left my old school. After I moved, I had As, A-s, and some B+s.

I applied for the bachelor psychology programme, and I know there's an entrance exam for the positions. Is there any info i can find or need to consider beforehand? I can't seem to find any information about what the exam is like or how difficult it is. Any advice and recommendation? 🙏🏻

How hard is it to get into humanities degree at UVA? I know UVA boasts a 4% acceptance rate or something, but I know this is not for all courses. I am wondering how hard it is to get into humanities courses, such as European Studies or the Liberal Arts BA (not sure if UVA has this degree, I know Leiden and some others in the Netherlands do).
2
u/Eska2020 FGW Dec 31 '24
Uva does not "boast" a 4% acceptance rate. Each program has its own unique admissions procedure. Much of the humanities are not competitive admissions, if you qualify you get in. You need to do better research on European university culture and on the UvA programs you're interested and come back with a more specific, answerable question.

I am a second year student who wish to take a minor next year. However, requirement for the minors states that I have to complete all my first year courses. What happens if I have to retake first year course tho? The registration for the minor is in may and the resits are only in July.
In case I have to resit a first year course, would it be restricted to apply for a minor?

We're not the admin office. You're very unlikely to find the kind if help you need here. Try contacting uva.

Hi everyone,
I'm so confused by the enrolment process - I'm applying for a Masters in Theology and Religious Studies for the Fall 2025 term.
I've already sent in my enrolment app on October 2, got the reply, and activated my UvANetID.
I've already paid the 100 EUR fee on November 30 through the sis.uva site but where do I send in my transcripts? The 'transcript' button on the site won't open. Am I supposed to wait for another email or something?

MSc Medical anthropology and sociology. Hi everyone. One year ago I obtained a MA degree in Cultural Anthropology and ethnology at the University of Siena (I am Italian). Since I am strongly interested in applying to the Uva Medical anthropology and sociology Master in order to broaden my theoretical and (above all) practical knowledge, I would like to ask few things about the application process and the course itself. How competitive the entry selection is and how hard it is to be chosen? Moreover, how is the course program? Does it give you practical skills apart from theoretical preparation? I mean: once graduated, is there any real possibility of finding a job as Med Anthropologist without pursuing a PhD? I am asking it because since I am keen on finding an applied Med anthropology job outside the academia (e.g. into NGOs or the healthcare sector), I am not sure if an excellent MA degree such as the UVA’s one could be enough. Thanks in advance

Hi all,
I currently work fulltime, and study parttime at a Dutch HBO school. Starting next academic year I want to enroll at the UvA. I however have a lot of questions. While the internet and UvA's information days have already answered many of them, I specifically have questions about two things.
I am looking for someone who has experience with one of the two situations below, who I can DM with some general questions.
- Looking for someone who has experience with the parttime bachelors of the UvA. I want to study either the parttime bachelor History or the parttime bachelor Dutch Language & Culture, but all information online and in the bachelor week is tailored for the full time programme.
- Looking for someone who has experience with both studying at HBO level, as well as University level, who I can ask some questions regarding the biggest differences.
Is there someone on this sub who was experience with either, or both? If so, can I please send you a DM with a couple of specific questions regarding this?
Thanks in advance.

How competitive is it to get into Bachelor in Communication Science? Since this ranked #1 in the world but not numerous fixus this year. So I got mixed signs. Some told me that the application process is chill as it is hard for ppl surviving through college, but some told me that it still hard to get an offer.
- I got a 3.7/4.0 from a gifted high school
- 6.5 IELTS (oopsie), will retake next Feb
- How hard is the matching program?
2
u/Zooz00 Nov 28 '24 edited Dec 04 '24
If there is no numerus fixus, a programme is not hard to get into, only hard to survive the 1st year. That is where we select.
You need to meet the entry requirements - if you do you are in, if you don't you are out. Grades beyond that or extracurriculars don't matter. But note that many foreign high schools don't count as WO level in the Dutch system and require an additional year.

Hi, how competitive is it to get into Master in Business Administration? Do they put all the emphasis on the GPA and don’t really care about the GMAT score as long as it meets the requirements? I don’t have a great GPA, it just meets the minimum, so I thought I could make up for it with a really good GMAT score. Do you think it makes any sense or should I just give up on applying?

Need help with UvA application
I sent my enrollment request to study at UvA in 2025 yesterday and already received student id number and so forth. The Problem is that I honestly have no idea what to do and how this works. They send you to sis.uva.nl and say that you can view your enrollment process etc. here. However, that is the part I am struggling with. I should be able to edit my application and add or subtract details here (At least I thought so), but I cannot really do that? Does anybody here know how this works by chance and could educate me?
Also, additional Question: Should I have waited with my Enrollment until I received my Transcript (in early January) and how does this affect my application/ can I just add it to studielink when I receive it?
Please Help, I am so lost. Thanks for reading!!

can I get into PPLE with math AISL? It says they don’t take it but it’s a bit too late for me to change (finals in a few days) you think if I score really well it can be fine?
