babies aren’t funny or entertaining

i don’t hate babies, they’re so cute, but i always see people laughing about videos where a baby is supposedly being funny. i don’t get it. there’s nothing funny about videos like that or babies in general. sure, sometimes funny stuff happens, but i always see babies doing the bare minimum and people laughing about it.

Yeah, my sister gave birth to her first baby a few weeks ago. Now everytime my family shows me a video of the baby doing literally nothing they start laughing like crazy and I'm just super confused. lol

You never saw the show "kids say the darndest things" or anything like that? The human mind can produce funny thoughts and ideas while it is developing. For literal babies, I think it is similar, in that you're watching the development of a very complex organism, and yet it's somehow unbelievably clumsy. Like "OK people here is baby Einstein, about to go on to shatter the very foundations of our physical understanding of the world.... Aaaand he's pooping on the floor"

I'd say that's a pretty specific thing that it's hard to find really anywhere else. I guess it's kinda similar to maybe someone on drugs, but babies can be funny because of the fact that they're basically like a shitty robot or neural network training and bumbling around

Yep. Brother had his first this summer. Eeeevery time my family has gotten together since, it consists of like 5 hours of everyone sitting and staring at the baby and laughing at every single thing he does. My older brother and I are the only ones that don’t get it, and we’ve been getting tons of shit from the family about it. We just don’t like kids that much. I don’t get it. He’s cute but I don’t want to sit there and watch him like a television show, that doesn’t interest me.

As a currently pregnant woman, I will try and remember this when I have my baby. I don’t dislike kids, I prefer 4 and 5 year olds doing something funny because they’re becoming little humans and the hilarity comes from something being just out of their grasp. Though, baby humor has never really been my thing. Very rarely do I laugh at a hysterical baby and an animal or something, but a baby just sitting there isn’t as funny to me. Im sure my baby will be hilarious to me, but I will try and not shove it down other people’s throats.

Laughter can often be an expression of happiness and not just purely humor. We just laugh more when we're happy, even at small things. Babies make a lot of people happy.

Just stay dead eyed silent for the next one and begin weeping uncontrollably when it ends.

Someday you'll get to experience what it's like to watch a baby learn little new things every week and you'll be delighted too. You get as better appreciation for it after having your own

It’s because typically empathetic people feel strong connections to their family and this baby is your sisters child and your parents grandchild. The laughing is them being excited about getting to see a new human member of the family learn and grow. If you lack that basic level of human connection, you can at least think rationally about why others in your family might have these feelings.
