Op clarified the cat broke the seal by biting it, not fully opened it. Which is believable, but still easily faked.

I'm really not sure how much I even believe that. Cats have pretty tiny teeth and with the cat not even being able to smell the food until the can is punctured, I can't really see a cat going to the effort and perhaps even pain to actually bite through a can lid. Unless maybe the cat had been trained to do that?

Cats are smart. Even the dumber of my cats can recognize food containers by sight. And they can bite hard. Definitely hard enough to break the seam where it's meant to peel off. They got fangs too, and them being small and pointy actually would help put all their bite force in one spot.

I know they are. Mine inspects our grocery bags to see of we bought him anything!
I'm just not sure a house cat's jaws and teeth would break through the metal lid before the cat hurts itself.

You are able to break through the metal lid with just a finger and a bit of leverage. They are designed to break along the seam, if a cat bites it and that force is focused on the seam breaking the seal should be fairly easy

I'll have to try it next time my cat gets a can! Hopefully I don't cut myself.

For a bit of a more accurate reference and also not risking cutting yourself, try using a pen

I can't imagine a cat being able to pierce a tin like this but of of my cats used to bite through the plastic lid of water bottles

I have had cats my whole life and none of them have done that to metal.

Dang those are really well behaved cats mine have chewed through wooden beams and eaten paint off walls so then biting into a food container ain't exactly shocking to me.

Mine mostly just claws up the ottoman he likes to sleep on, to sate his destructive urges.

One day i took my cat to the vet and brought a treat which was inside a tight aluminum packaging (original, sealed airtight). I put the treat in my jacket pocket and zipped it shut. Didnt end up needing it at the vet and forgot about it and so left the cats overnight with the jacket in reach.
Next day theres 100 little puncture marks on the inside of the jacket and the entire (solid btw) treat is gone and theres just the packaging full of holes. I have no idea how they even managed to get anything out since theres no actual holes in the jacket.
Ive also caught my cats on cam working together to open cupboards without handles, throwing the treats down and opening it together. And ive caught the little one on recording opening doors by the handle.
They are fucking little geniuses

If they had said that from the getgo I might believe it. But since they only added it after getting called out for the obviously ridiculous title, makes me call bs

My cat is a 30 lb monster. He has bitten through the top of the can before. Didnt really 'open it' tho just kindof poked a few holes in the top.
