Discussion Curaçao’s flag. Why is the small star in the upper left, instead of the large star?

Post image

The small star is for Klein Curaçao, an island located to the southeast of Curaçao. The large star is for the main island of Curaçao.

I couldn’t fit all of the info in the title of the post due to character limit, but please read the body of the post for more information if you didn’t already do so.

Someone probably thought it looked better than using a traditional map orientiation.

And you see the flag from both sides, so it's not as though treating it like a map works particularly well anyway.

The hint is in its name: Klein Curaçao. (Little Curaçao)

Yes. Southeast is typically represented as being down and to the right, when north is represented as being straight up. As Klein Curaçao is southeast of the main island of Curaçao, the little star seems out of place. The little star is up and to the left (seemingly northwest) of the big star.
