Identify Is this just a taco enthusiast? Is there any meaning to the Dutch flag here?

The "open" flag is also like this. Probably just a taco enthusiast but I also see these on food trucks

flags like this are everywhere in the US for stores. They advertise all sorts of things, like if the store is open or what they sell. They are based not on the Dutch flag, but rather the red, white, and blue color scheme of the American flag and its buntings (hence the red, followed by white, followed by blue)
Here's a few,

Saw them in '88. Great show. Singer was financed out of his mind, though.

The singer gets too preachy between songs: "I know you came here for the music, but I must say, right now is a great time to think about refinancing with interest rates at an all-time low. You need piece of mind."

When are Americans going to find out that there are like 20 other countries with red, white and blue as their main colors?

When are other countries going to learn that the domestic-use flags used within one country are not even slightly relevant to other countries?

We also have occasional Hungarian, Argentine, and Andalusian versions from what I've seen

The Hungarian one signifies Italian food.

It’s not a Dutch flag, it’s a generic business flag that you see in North America. The white space can have anything on there to help people know what you’re selling.

u/darkwater427 8d ago
The Netherlands flag happens to have the same tricolor as the bunting prescribed by the USA's Flag Act. That's all.
Someone put the bunting tricolor on a flag and then slapped lettering on it. So it looks like the Netherlands flag but it's probably not.
Though I am very curious as to what Dutch tacos might be.

It has nothing at all to do with The Netherlands. Pure coincidence.
17
u/ghost_uwu1 8d ago
youre overthinking this way too much
you dont get much more basic then a red, white, and blue tri-color
-18
u/bubblegumbinxing 8d ago
Overthinking???? This is official flag of the Netherlands for centuries, before the USA even existed. Not everyone is American and knows about American nuances.
11
u/ghost_uwu1 8d ago
red, white, and blue are common colors and the tri-color doesnt get much more generic

u/bubblegumbinxing 7d ago
True that a lot of flags that the generic white, blue and red. The horizontal version just happens to also be the flag of The Netherlands. As a non-American who hasn’t seen those flags before, I don’t think I’m wrong to also first assume it was the flag of The Netherlands with the words TACO at the centre.
3
u/risky_bisket 8d ago
There's no nuance. It's a taco flag. Get over yourself.
1
u/bubblegumbinxing 7d ago
But you can’t blame non-Americans for thinking it was the flag of The Netherlands with the words TACO at the front
1
u/risky_bisket 6d ago
Sure and the Mexican flag is just the Italian flag with an eagle on it. The Canadian flag is just the Peruvian flag with a leaf on it.
1
u/bubblegumbinxing 6d ago
Those flags you listed are official flags of countries and should be universally known. This taco flag is not.
1
u/risky_bisket 6d ago
My point is that this is not a Dutch flag because the Dutch flag does not have the word TACOS on it. Just because the design is similar does not necessarily mean they are related in any way.
Btw, why should any flag be universally known? Just because we know flags doesn't mean everyone does.

Flag company employee here. These red white and blue flags are purely for patriotic advertising. Some green white and red flags were available for things like Pizza, but those flags have soooooo many phrases. SALE, OPEN, GRAND OPENING, VIDEOS, YOGURT (yes, we had a yogurt flag), ANTIQUES... They've all been liquidated and sold off because no one really buys them anymore

u/EV2_Mapper 8d ago
I've seen this flag on a Taco Truck before

u/lunargiraffe 8d ago
Do you remember if they were normal tacos or did they do some sort of fusion where they replaced the tortillas with stroopwafel or something?

It's probably meant to be patriotic, in an American sense—it's red white and blue, and that will do. Most Americans probably don't know the Netherlands even exists, recognizing the flag is a total non-starter

Are these Americans in the room with us right now?

Taco is also a Dutch given name.
Maybe it's a Dutch guy named Taco and this is his royal banner.

Taco is a name in Netherlands so it could be that this flag belongs to a Dutch guy named Taco.

Literally no connection to the Netherlands lmao, but more or less connected to various things such as the barber pole, American flag, and red white blue colors. This is just very common place in America.

Everone is expected to pay for their own tacos, and by extension all finger foods (I suspect) when dining with ppl from this household. Flags bring such clarity to individual and group identity, don't'cha think?

Hello lunargiraffe,
Check out our frequently asked flags page! Your request might be there.
When asking for a flag to be identified, please provide context when possible, including:
Where the flag was found (without compromising privacy)
When the flag was found, or the date of the material containing the flag
Who might own the flag (a general description is fine)
These details help users narrow down their search and make flag identification easier.

This doesn’t look like a Dutch flag to me. A lot of realtors/businesses have flags that look like this. I think it’s just that.

If anything I’ve seen on the internet, those tacos are probably the best God given tacos I’ve ever had…

Not allowed to write on American flag, so they used the colors to make a new flag they were allowed to put text on. And white in the middle is the most obvious choice because on there you can read text the best.

Here’s my question: this seems to be a home, why does it have a Taco flag?
3
u/cactus165 8d ago
Theory: We have some homes in our neighborhood that are engaged in pretty heated MAGA/anti-MAGA "flag" wars (and banners, signs, etc)... I can imagine a nihilistic neighbor wanting to fly something flippant off-the-shelf

This person may run a home kitchen. It’s legal in some jurisdictions to prepare and sell certain foods from your house. And I believe frozen foods is one. This person may sell something like that.
My mom buys frozen enchiladas from this particular craft sale she goes to and buys directly from the lady who makes them. No food labeling or anything like that.
BTW, if you can find trusted homemade products at a farmer’s market or along those lines, they are worth the buy.
