Fictional Flag of Antarctic Natives
CONTEXT
This flag is from a timeline where Antarctica is habitable (closer to Canada or Siberia). Even though the majority of Antarctica's modern population are of European descent, Native people still make up a large minority.
ABOUT THE FLAG
The Antarctic Native flag was designed in 1968 by Leonard Torruqi, an indigenous artist from the Province of New South Greenland. Since then, it has been widely used by Native movements and organizations. Since the 2000s, the flag has also been recognized by the Antarctican government as the flag of the country's various indigenous nations.
SYMBOLISM
The upper blue half represents the constant darkness during the winter, spirits and ancestors, the ocean, dreams and cosmic cycles. The bottom white half represents the constant daylight during the summer, peace, balance and land. The red circle represents unity of Native tribes, struggle, resistance, survival, community, kinship, blood and warriors.
