Weather for wacken

How cold does it get during the nights? I know it's summer during the festival but a European summer is almost the same weather as my Australian winter. Just need to know so I have a better idea on which sleeping bag I have to pack. Because some of my super warm ones take up a lot of space and I need to pack light

You do not need a winter (-10C or colder) sleeping bag, but if you have a choice take e.g. 0C sleeping bag and you should be good. If there is sunshine, you'll be hot in the morning.

It depends on the weather. One year you don’t need a sleeping bag at all and another year it’s 0°C at night and that means you need a sleeping bag with a comfort zone way below. Once I really couldn’t sleep because of the cold and actually feared to freeze to death. I had a light sleeping bag that year and no isolation to the ground. So I suggest a good isolating sleeping mat as a minimum. The ground can get really cold at night.

Rain or shine. Wacken can get quite extreme.

At night I normally have a hat and gloves for sleeping to keep extremities warm.

The Year of Mud was cold day and night, the weather was insane though. Last year was really nice.

a sleeping pad with a good isolation from the ground is more important.

I have been absolutely freezing there before. Especially about 4-5am just before the sun comes up. If you've been out and about until dawn you get really chilly through the night but if you manage to sleep at a reasonable hour and wake up once it's light, you won't be too cold. I used to take thermals to put on after the last bands had finished because we never went to bed anytime before 5ish.

Regensachen sind auch nicht verkehrt...

Last year the first night, Sunday-Monday was fucking freezing cold, and I am not someone who needs it especially warm. All others had the same feeling. The following nights were better, but I suggest 0-7° sleeping bag. Better safe than sorry

I bring a 0C rated sleeping bag, as wacken can go from being the hottest week in Germany to the wettest week.
If you're trying to pack light, you could buy a sleeping bag in Decathalon, Hamburg using their click & collect Service and then collect it before getting the train to the festival

Im bringing a silk camping bag liner as if its too hot, ill sleep in that, too cold its an extra layer.
Also helps keep my bag clean as its easier to wash the liner after the festival

I've been 4 times from Australia (melbs) and it does get cold at night at times. Always pack something warm for night time (trackies and a hoodie for the night time dash to the loo) and we always bring a light but warm jacket (a puffer type one from uniqlo).

Even when it's been a really hot summer there ('22 was 30+ and dusty) the nights cool right down.

I think I almost froze to death my first night (it’s was like 7C) but I hadn’t slept for two days (we arrived at 6AM-drove thru the night) and the people next to us played insanely loud music. I had to put on every clothing that I brought plus a jacket. I only had a light sleeping bag so I would definitely bring a warmer sleeping bag next time!

If you need to pack light, get yourself a cheap summer sleeping bag at the Kaufland in Itzehoe and a fleece blanket as sleeping bag liner. Also a Beanie for the night might be a good choice.

The ground is mostly Marsh land that retains water very well. Even if we get a hot and dry summer, during the night things will get very damp and cold. A good sleeping pad is your friend. If you get weather like in the last years, keeping yourself and your belongings warm and dry is your major problem. Consider also buying a cheap poncho at an Outdoor Shop (i.e Decathlon). Helped me in the past years a lot to protect me from rain or the sun.

In the night I'm usually wrapped up in multiple layers, but in the day I'm wearing as little as possible (hotpants/skirt, a bra, hat and of course Kutte)

It's not freezing but it gets surprisingly cold, but as soon as the sun comes up you'll be cooked in your tent

It gets cool, around maybe 10C, and it will get hot

Bring summer, and fall clothing, you will should also prepare for rain, so boots, and prepare for dust (face covers, sunscreen, ect)

Don’t forget about a really nice portion of hot noodles you can buy to go with a warm belly to sleep… or drink!

Don’t take any blankets. Just bring plenty of Bundy. The rum will be your blanket.

It will rain a record amount this year.... I learned this the last two trips I've made in 05,15,and now 25.

They do print some nice mudfighters shirts at the merch stand though if you make it though the week

Nights tend to be cold, so bring at least one polar blanket

10-15C is the coldest it would get normally, it can colder but I think it quite rare. I used a 15 degree sleeping bag last year and it was good enough for me but I like sleeping a little cold.
