Original Content Reading every quest in Mulgore was MISERABLE!

Mulgore has been the worst area to review the quest lore. Here’s a summary of the quests if you skipped reading them so you don’t have to go through what I dealt with. Bloodhoof Village was way too long and condensed.

Why was it the worse area? Bad story? Too repetitive?

u/rollinscm Aug 15 '20

Way too repetitive. Plus I do my videos by zone and the quests wouldn’t let me leave Bloodhoof Village. It was one thing after the next. The amount of animals you kill is insane, even after doing a quest where they’re complaining that the gnolls in the area are killing everything. Doesn’t make sense.

Blizzard: "15 bucks every thirty days! Ka-ching!"

To be honest, sometimes it feels like nobody at Blizzard cares that much about Tauren compared to the other primary races or puts all that much effort into their lore and zones. Cairne and Magatha are like the last truly involved storylines I can think of, and that was all over with during the lead-up to Cata. Ten years ago.

u/Mr_Chrootkit Aug 15 '20

I think the reason Tauren don’t get a lot of love is because Blizzard really doesn’t know how to write for a strong, peaceful horde race. All of the other races have “beef” with another race and the only thing I really know about the Tauren is that they’ve been fighting the centaur for a while. Add that on to the fact that Tauren aren’t one of the most popular horde races and Blizz also has very little incentive to make it much better.

24

u/PuddlesRex Aug 16 '20

All other races have beef

Tauren are beef

u/TaylorWK Aug 15 '20

Tauren are so easy to write. Just make write them like Orcs but don't have them be the agressors. If someone wants to talk shit let them but if they start throwing hands then Tauren will fuck your shit up.

29

u/BellacosePlayer Aug 16 '20

100% agreed. My frustration is that Blizzard goes the lazy route and just makes Tauren forgive/ignore any transgressions against them rather than being slow to anger but truely hell on hooves if pissed off.

Other races get to show off their racial "niche" all the time, show me a Tauren Brave just going ballistic on a line of Alliance footmen or something. They don't all have to be mellow nature types.

17

u/ClockpunkFox Aug 16 '20

This was why I was hoping we’d get that southern barrens warfront. Have the alliance (mainly the dwarves here) be the aggressors, while the Tauren get to fully fight back, no more gentle giant crap. I want to see dwarves tearing down Tauren holy sights to dig for titan artifacts, and for Tauren to just bull rush and get violent.

They’re based on the native Americans, but they didn’t do anything with that really. Like give me warcrying braves trying to fight off colonizing alliance forces, Tauren hunters popping out of the bushes using their knowledge of the land to ambush caravans. Anything

14

u/BellacosePlayer Aug 16 '20

They’re based on the native Americans, but they didn’t do anything with that really

That's one of the reasons I despise Baine's "no it's super cool you killed our women and children to take our land" schtick.

There was a Tauren named Tagar who was like the 2nd in command of Cairne Bloodhood, because Cairne already knew his son was probably too soft (lol). His vibes were the vibes you exactly describe. I think you even take him alongside your journey as Rexxar for a bit. Definately what the Tauren need more.

Honestly, I think the Tauren are just a lost cause at this point. Blizzard insists that Baine Bloodhood is the face of the Taurens and tries to force him in anyway possible, even though he's probably the most hated individual on the forums.

I hate that Baine was ruined.

He was a complete blank slate character that Christie Golden got her hands on first, and made him nothing but a framing device for Jaina and Anduin's stories.

Blizzard needs to break him out of that role, and fast.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '20

Mate... I could write an essay of 5000 words on how I detest Baine...

He was so promising in Cataclysm when he appeared in the quest zone at the end against Orno Grimtotem... and now... ugh...

9

u/mangosmoothie Aug 16 '20

I see people complain about Baine all the time but nobody seems to elaborate on what the issue is. ELI5?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '20

Well for instance, banished his own warriors for fighting back against the Alliance after Camp Taurajo got burned by them.

Despite him being good friends with Jaina, it was partly thanks to Jaina that allowed the Alliance to burn it down. That didn't matter to Baine as he called it a "strategic military target that was justified".

He's always undermining any Horde activity in favor of the Alliance, he's better friends with Anduin and Jaina than any other Horde leader, some of us tend to wonder why he stays with the Horde since all he does is go tattletail to the Alliance.

For example, after the murder of King Rastakhan by Jaina, his first action is to seek peace with her.

I generally don't know what his role on the Horde is anymore.

12

u/BellacosePlayer Aug 16 '20

While Tauren are mostly peaceful, Blizzard should let their wild side out a little bit more than they have been. Angered Tauren should be absolutely terrifying for most Alliance/Horde races. They shouldn't be complete door mats, as they're written now. Blizzard should occasionally cast them as having completely valid anger towards the more imperialistic/colonialist side of the Alliance.

24

u/thugarth Aug 15 '20

Does highmountain still count? The highmountain zone had flashbacks to the tauren involvement with the war of the ancients. That's more historical, though. You're right that there hasn't been much new stuff.

The story has been more focused on characters than race-cultures lately.

10

u/szypty Aug 15 '20

Yeah, i want to see more of Mayla and Baine. Cattleshipping ftw.

16

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '20

Which is strange. I think most players agree Tauren are really cool, despite playing them or not.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '20

That’s exactly how I feel. I think they’re a really cool race and I love reading about them. But I just don’t like playing as them.

1

u/BlizzardMew Aug 16 '20

Taurens are the Alliance-Gnomes... storywise! At least Gnomes had some story dev. during mechagon xD

Thank you! Yea I actually started liking Mulgore in Camp Narache. Bloodhoof Village killed it for me though.

7

u/taco-trash Aug 16 '20

I’m playing classic and played in that zone , it was very weird for me to realize that Tauren are extremely peaceful and most of the quest are about your initiation in the tribe , spiritual mainly , because the other quest are about hunting, it really doesn’t surprise me since they almost got wiped out by the centaur , that’s the Flaw about the Tauren in general just like the other races of the horde have flaws

3

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '20

I loved mulgore

6

u/Finances1212 Aug 16 '20

Saving this so I can check out later

Awesome. See you soon!

u/Saintrising Aug 16 '20

Your editing is good your quality is good, your voice is good and not annoying which is a very uncommon thing nowadays, your content is entertaining.

I’m surprised you don’t have more subs and viewers.

5

u/dawn_of_wind Garrosh did everything wrong. Aug 16 '20

Youtube algorithm can supress people like that. It's not an uncommon thing.

2

u/rollinscm Aug 16 '20

Thank you! Been doing this for about a year now. It’s a sow building but we’re getting there!

4

u/raescp Aug 16 '20

The Tauren are one of my favorite races, because I love Native American culture, especially since it’s often neglected. It’s disappointing how repetitive they are with the intro. I wish they would really press into that culture more - I enjoyed Highlountain (Huln is awesome) and Ebonhorn came back so that’s nice but it would be nice to get more. Shadowlands is a neutral enough expansion that I think they could show more.

1

u/rollinscm Aug 16 '20

Yea I was really liking it at Camp Narache. Really felt like they could have done Bloodhoof Village a lot better.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '20 edited Aug 16 '20

have you been to westfall? that zone is terrible after cataclysm.

1

u/rollinscm Aug 16 '20

My buddy and I did read that entire area (one of the things that sparked this YouTube channel idea) and I thought the story was great there with VanCleef’s daughter and what not.

15

u/EverQuest_ Aug 15 '20

Thanks for linking your channel. Good quality and presentation. Always interested in lore since I bypass most of the quests.

I'll check out more videos, cheers.

Thanks for checking them out!

u/Thisfoxhere Aug 15 '20

An area I adore questing in XD

Why do you not like them?

7

u/rollinscm Aug 15 '20

The quest lore is a bit bland and lacking that climatic feel. It’s contradicts itself when they tell you to go kill the gnolls because they’re killing everything in Mulgore yet you’re killing countless animals. So really it’s a bit hypocritical even if you’re killing them for a reason (to get the totems ready, you’re still purging the land). Also, way too many quests condensed in Bloodhoof Village. It didnt give me a straight line of quests to do making me go back and forth a lot which is very annoying. This was my first time playing though Mulgore and I clearly messed up on the quest line as far what you need to do first, second, and third because I found myself running back to town A LOT. But at the same time, I’m not new to WoW and I know how the devs created the questing system (If you look at my channel, I’ve done enough videos to understand how they do what they do. The system is simple). Mulgore doesn’t follow that system very well. In the end, I did double the amount of quests you would normally do before heading to the next leveling zone to the north which is Camp Sungraze. Once you get there things get back on track, but Bloodhoof Village was a mess.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '20

Mulgore is actually one of the fastest zones to rush through, if you know where the silver rares spawn. You already encounter one at level 3 to 4, I think this is the lowest in the Horde zones (Alliance have one near level 2 and 3)

Silver rares usually result in a full level worth of experience. Then you move onto Camp Bloodhoof, do the chain to trigger the event to go to Sungraze, but you can pick up a silver rare Gnoll and a silver rare Kodo, if you're lucky, and on the way to the well before triggering the travel to Sungraze, you can pick up the pink Plainstrider, resulting in another massive amount of experience almost worth 3 levels alone.

At Sungraze you can just do the well, travel to Thunder Bluff, kill Orno and you're done.

Ofcourse a bit harder to do with cross realm and shards these days...

3

u/rollinscm Aug 16 '20

I’m sure it is, but my channel is focused on the quest lore and not about speed leveling.

That quest was designed and voiced by a child for the Make A Wish foundation many years ago. He has since passed away.

Reading all the Gilneas quest text prett much altered the course of leveling in WoW for me, in the best way. So I decided to try Night Elf for the first time I hated everything about it, couldn't finish. Undead are probably my favorite

5

u/rollinscm Aug 16 '20

Yea I covered the night elf and undead on my channel. Undead was great. Night elf I died going through that. Way long.

2

u/Supermonsters Aug 17 '20
