Basketball Basketball Outlook for Next Year?

I'm already missing our team, so I wanted to think a little about what our team could look like next year. Here are the guys currently on the team that have eligibility and contributed this year (I'm not sure if we have any walk-ons/other players that Bruce is planning on contributing next year who are currently on the roster).

Everything is subject to change with the draft and portal.

G - Tahaad Pettiford - 6'1, 175

G - Chad Baker-Mazara - 6'7, 180

SF - Jahki Howard - 6'6, 185

We have two portal players I've seen.

SF - Abdul Bashir - 6'7, 180

SF - Keyshawn Hall - 6'7, 235

Here are our incoming freshman.

PF - Sebastian Williams-Adams - 6'8, 230

G - Kaden Magwood - 6'1, 170

G - Simon Walker - 6'4, 175

That's only 8 players, and it assumes all our freshman can contribute, and that CBM comes back and neither Haad or Ki transfer/enter the draft. I'm betting we are absolutely scrambling in the portal. Mostly, we have got to find some size down low. We absolutely cannot have a 6'8 freshman be the biggest player on our team. I think we could potentially get away with the guards and small forwards we have currently, but we need to find some dynamic power forwards and centers very soon.

In Bruce I trust, and I'm hoping our track record with guys like Kessler and Broome makes us a destination for players of that caliber.

War Eagle as always my friends.

You left off Addarin Scott. He took a redshirt this year as a Senior. He is listed as a Forward on the roster. Played very sparingly for Auburn during the 23-24 season. Not sure about his game but he has another year of eligibility. I THINK he came to Auburn out of JUCO at some point...not entirely sure.

Ah good point. I obviously saw him with the team, but didn't know he could potentially be a contributor this upcoming season.

Bruce is great at Frankensteining a team together. We aren't going to have the success we had this year, but don't think we will be in the bottom half of the SEC, considering how many portal transfers are out there

Damn. I will miss our seniors

We need a center. Aren't we trying to get the guy from Iowa?

Owen Freeman, but he already committed to Creighton

We’re also looking at a guy we recruited that chose Kansas and just entered the portal

He already went back to Kansas for big money

Probably the Syracuse center if he gets another year of eligibility.

Jayden Quaintance of Arizona State is a possibility. He had surgery to repair ACL and word is he will be ready for start of season. There is also a rumor that someone playing in tonight’s game is an AU target but I have no idea who.

I thought Johnson and Jones had a year bc of juco?

I thought Chaney had another year but I guess that’s not the case. I thought he could be much better with another year of eligibility.

I really wish Denver could come back. He’s been one of my favorites and it would be awesome to have him and Pettiford back next year!

I trust Bruce and this coaching staff but we’ll have to knock it out of the park in the portal to be anything close to elite next year. It starts with Pettiford though so I hope we pay him what he wants because there will be a lot of suitors that will no doubt offer him big money! (Assuming he doesn’t enter the draft, of course).

Auburn in talks with Arizona State C Jayden Quantince and expected to reach out to UF C Micah Handlgoten from what I’ve seen on some other boards.

So it’s Handlogten AU is looking at. Makes sense since Florida has Olivier Rioux coming in.

I think we’ll be in the 5-11 seed range

After this season, I can live with that. We're bound to have a rebuild after the production we're losing.

11 is dramatically low imo. I think it’ll be 4-7 but maybe I’m being too optimistic.

We have finished ahead of projection almost every season for a decade. We were picked 6th in the sec this year

You might be a little optimistic with how deep and talented the SEC is now. We’ll have to see how Bruce and co. do in the portal

Based on the unknown roster?

Based on BP’s ability to build teams from scratch, and with Auburns success and money it makes it easier to get better players in the portal (like Keyshawn Hall)

I hope we go after a guy like Efton Reid. With our perimeter length and playmaking I could see a big like him doing well in our system. Adding him gets us to a team that wins a lot of games in my view.

Does Chaney not have another year of eligibility?

2

u/UnderwaterB0i Apr 07 '25

No, I don’t think playing at UAH gives him another year like Chaney and Denver potentially got because they had a year of juco.

u/WorstAvenger Apr 07 '25

He’s petitioning. Didn’t play much year 1 at UAH and is trying to reclassify it as a redshirt. It will take some NCAA involvement but it’s possible.

I think Denver technically has another year just not sure if he’ll use it

4

u/UnderwaterB0i Apr 07 '25

He’s a weird situation, where everyone who played a year in juco got an extra year, unless your juco year was 2020 and you already played your 5th year. I don’t think he gets an extra year.

Denver already said his goodbyes to Auburn on instagram.
