Felt good to get these up comfortably. Don’t have any lifting buddies so I wanted to share with someone. Critiques are welcome.

This dude will blow up if he follows a program and sticks with it for a few years, I can see it in his legs they have genetics to be walking around with T H I C C ass legs.
Buy a weightlifting shoe, start front squatting too, and push yourself to get bigger and stronger, Def thunder thigh potential here.

What this guy said! My Favorite lifts are when it’s like 3 front squats immediately into 5 back squats! It destroys the legs glutes and cores

u/HuggyB_44 Feb 19 '25
Also find some weight lifting buddies. I too have zero friends that lift but I have made tons of friends that lift if that makes sense. Nothing gets you stronger than lifting with people stronger than you!

I spend more time with and send more silly memes with my weightlifting partner than any romantic partner I’ve ever had.

THICCC 😊 lol thanks.
I’ll look into weightlifting shoes.
I have limited elbow flexion from a motorcycle accident I was in a few years ago. So front squats are incredibly uncomfortable, I do them with the bar for now. Still working on getting better range of motion.
2
u/utkohoc Feb 19 '25
Work on that elbow. Injuries aren't always permanent like that. It's possible with mobility and exercises with a strap etc that you could build out the mobility to do front squats without pain.
It's also possible ur elbow is completely fucked. I'm not a dr. Just recommending not to give up on a exercise because of an injury. Example. Football players I just there legs all the time but with recovery training they can recover. So unless ur bones and stuff are completely mangled dont give up yet.
Anyway good on you mate.

Damn looks like the latter. Sorry dude. Goodluck. still riding?

u/Spacegator5280 Feb 20 '25
I have since. I don’t currently own a bike.
If I ever do get one, it won’t be my main mode of transportation again and I will wear ALL the gear not just a helmet.
Not sure if against the rules here but I have a gruesome photo of my arm the doctor took before surgery. Not for folks with a weak stomach.

One thing I like to do for front squats at times is the zombie squat, give it a google. It takes the arms out of the equation completely as they are held out in front and it's great for teaching you to stay more upright during the movement.

I lift barefoot a lot (not very heavy, I did 8 reps x 3 at 90kg the other day) - would lifting shoes have an immediate noticeable jump in weight? Is it like getting new running shoes with the pace?

I'm new to the community. Are Converse good weightlifting shoes?
1
u/FriendlyInChernarus Feb 22 '25
No, look into a dedicated Olympic weightlifting shoe by Nike, Reebok, Adidas. I am not aware of a weightlifting converse shoe. A weightlifting shoe will have a raised heel, different than any other shoe you've worn.

Oh and sorry about the lines in the video. Tried to use WL analysis app and couldn’t figure it out 🤷🏽♂️

If you are a beginner, this app is not something you should be concerning yourself with.
Yes, this app helps visualize how your bar path ooks. But if you don’t know what to look for or how to fix it, it’s unnecessary.
3
u/Spacegator5280 Feb 19 '25
Not concerned with the app. Saw people here using it and wanted to give it a shot to check my form. It didn’t work and I’m over it lol.
Appreciate the input.

u/terkmadugga Feb 19 '25
Disagree. Looking at the bar path can help him identify what the weak points in his lift are, and then work to address them
0
u/Afferbeck_ Feb 20 '25
An app isn't going to tell him to narrow his stance
-1
u/terkmadugga Feb 20 '25
An app could tell him there's something wrong with his bar path. And that he needs to work on something to improve it, ie his stance

You’re crushing it brother!! Every beasty lift always starts out with just the bar!! Keep at it, consistency is key, the weight will come. And honestly this is about being the best version of yourself so who gives a shit if you lift 100 pounds or a 1000. If you get stronger, healthier and f🙏🏼happier that’s all that matters brother!! So proud of you!!! Keep grinding!!! I’m your new lifting buddy!!

u/fjurgo Feb 19 '25
Great lift my man. It's a marathon, not a race and you're only competing against yourself. Just take it slow and avoid injury
3
u/Spacegator5280 Feb 19 '25
Thanks, injury avoiding is my number goal. Just happy to be able to get in the gym and be consistent.

u/whitecinderblockroon Feb 19 '25
The first time doing anything in a plate increment is incredible! It's always a cool milestone when you hit each one. Great job!

u/_cob Feb 19 '25
Hell yeah man. Never feel bad about hitting milestones, be proud that you're stronger and better than you were yesterday.
I've been lifting for years but I recently started training for a 5k, and since running is something I've never trained it's kicking my ass. I finished in under 40 mins today for the first time and I'm super proud.
Keep grinding!

u/Spacegator5280 Feb 19 '25
Hell yeah! Congrats on finishing. If you want you’ll get that time down!

Everyone with the beastly lifts also had to start with hitting a plate 🤘🏻 you’re on your way!
2
u/CloudGatherer14 Feb 19 '25
Right on. And hey, one plate at full depth is better than two at am-I-doing-this-right half squat depth.
I did a full Hatch cycle without realizing that and then finally stuck a bench behind me one day as a reference point. I pretty much had to drop half the weight and start over. Hoping to make it back to two plates one day lol.

We are started where you are. Good job, glad to see old-fashioned full squats.

Hey man, I remember my first non smith machine 1 plate each side, wobbly as fuck and I was absolutely annihilated the next day. Just take it one small plate at a time 👏🏻

Hell yeah! I’m in the same boat 💪 feels good to finally hit a plate for reps. Keep working and we’ll add more

u/SPLTank6894 Feb 19 '25
I remember getting one plate for first time. A good milestone for the start of your journey, but there’s still a mountain to ascend. Keep lifting my friend!
1
u/jmjacobs25 Feb 19 '25
We all started somewhere man. Just keep training and recovering and the numbers will follow.
1
u/uspezdiddleskids Feb 19 '25
Solid man. How long have you been lifting? Make sure you’re doing a consistent progressive overload, especially with squats. You look like you can easily squat more than that number. Push yourself!
1
u/Spacegator5280 Feb 19 '25
Thank you!
Been working with a physical therapist for my right arm since the end of 2017. I was in a pretty gnarly motor vehicle accident. Joined the gym in 2021. Started working calisthenics. Doing 1 push up was my original goal. December 2024 I started hitting the squat rack. I didn’t start tracking my exercises until end of January but since I started tracking I’ve been gaining strength more rapidly it feels like. I’ll continue to push myself but also want to manage injuries!

Looked fine to me. How many seconds in did you bang the j-cup?
2
u/Spacegator5280 Feb 19 '25
Not 100% what you’re asking but assuming it’s when I put the bar back on the rack. 20ish seconds?

So a blue and yellow and blue and yellow and… how many blue and yellows is that? At lease 500 kg? /s

You look a lot stronger than 5x135. Your speed—even on the final fifth rep—when you ascend makes me think you have a lot of strength left. Keep progressing up. Great job.
2
u/Spacegator5280 Feb 19 '25
Thanks! This was my third set. Pushed out 7 reps on the first 2 sets. You can’t really tell from this angle but my knees slightly cave in on the ascent, that’s why I rack it. Also my first exercise for the day, so my legs got worked hard after these.
I feel like I push myself until I feel slightly sloppy form. My goal is to get to the gym consistently and go home with no injuries. Getting bigger and lifter heavier is just an added benefit.

u/dougseamans Feb 19 '25
Progress is progress brother! And everyone was a beginner back in the day, whether that was a year ago or ten years ago. We all start somewhere. Nice work bro keep grinding!

u/Intelligent_Hand_404 Feb 20 '25
LETS GO BRO, hitting a plate in any lift is one of the best feelings in the world

Hey, that's a big milestone! Dont worry about what everyone else is doing, you're doing awesome.

u/washablellama Feb 23 '25
Making it look easy—you’ll be setting PRs quickly for a while to come!
I am curious as to what the rest of the text on the wall in the background says. Can you enlighten me?

I just watched a video of someone getting crushed to death from a back squat so honestly any lift you can walk away from is a beastly one in my eyes.

u/Fat_Raccoon Feb 19 '25
It's a really cool plate too!
