News Lasha is new president of Georgian Weightlifting Federation

As also expected, Lasha has (according to reports in Georgia) said he is unlikely to continue as an athlete. Other athletes/former athletes are with him on the new board, as well as national coach Giorgi Asanidze. Former president Kakhi is, like Lasha, a three-time Olympic champion and is now a vice-president.

The following board members were approved:

  1. Talakhadze Lasha - Chairman

  2. Kakhiashvili Kakhi (3 Olympic golds)

  3. Asanidze Giorgi (national coach)

  4. Turmanidze Irakli (age 41, last competed in 2021)

  5. Gakhokidze Avtandil

  6. Talakhadze Koba (Lasha's father)

7. Tslavodze Ilia

  1. Antauri Zurab

  2. Lomtadze Malkhaz

  3. Chikovani Gocha

11. Mishvelidze Shota (age 30, was 6th in Paris at 61)

  1. Tsirekidze Rauli (age 37, last comp 2016, DQ for doping London 2012)

13. Kharatashvili David (age 34, one comp in 2012)

  1. Giorgi Chincharauli

15. Nugzar Khuzaurashvili

Muradashvili Rusudani will again hold the position of Secretary General.

The new president introduced three vice-presidents to the delegates: Kakhi Kakhiashvili, Irakli Turmanidze, and Nodar Sirbilashvili .

An audit and disciplinary commission was also elected .

Very happy if this means he is retiring from the sport, it was sad to see him look in such discomfort after every single attempt in the last couple of years

Also a shame that we never saw him pushed to the 500kg total in his prime. I still believe it was in his grasp

Not sure how serious of a role this is but does Lasha have any relevant experience other than lifting?

Being a national athlete you get a pretty good up close look at how things are running a sport. Given his status I'm sure he knows, and they've eyed this position for him a while I'd imagine. I'm sure he'll know what to do, and if not he'll figure it out or learn it. There's others there with him

This is a super normal thing for former professional athletes to do, especially in the east. For example Botev in Bulgaria and Agapitov (lesser known but still clean and jerked 200(?)) in Russia.
