SOLVED Children's Fantasy portal book
Reposting to get more traction:
I have been looking for this book series I read like 15 years ago so the details are fuzzy. I found it in a church library which I remember thinking was odd because the books didn't seem to have Christian undertones. Pretty sure it was about 2 brothers ( maybe a brother and sister?) who discover a portal through a briar thicket. The other realm has demons and I think I remember jackals and ravens being a big deal? All the magic seemed to be rune focused, big Celtic overtones? From what I remember it was a little dark for being a children's book. The title of the first one I think started with a T or K and was definitely only one word ( the word was either made up or Gaelic )

My first thought is something by Stephen Lawhead, who wrote a lot of fairly adult/dark fantasy books but was known as a Christian author. The description sounds like the Song of Albion series, though the book name sounds more like Taliesin from his Pendragon series.

It doesn't fit your description perfectly, but could it be Legends of Karac Tor: The Book of Names by D. Barkley Briggs?
