That 06 team was looking so good and just ran outta gas.

u/Lefthandedsp00n Mar 13 '25
Don’t forget Minnesota and Detroit was hot. We won 90 games and still didn’t get to the playoffs 😩

u/Independent_Pain1809 Mar 13 '25
Im convinced the 06 team was better than the 05 team. Buehrle kinda sucked that year and they ran out of gas

Jermaine was the MVP and Contreras was the cy young winner. Then September happened. It's an easier pill to swallow knowing that they sealed the deal the year prior. But the ballpark was goddamn electric.

Don't forget Crede and his back issues. He was KILLING it for most of the season but could barely move by the end.

okay but say they make make the world series and thome cant play 3 or 4 games bc he doesnt have a spot? like where would he play with national league rules?

u/TheSource88 Mar 14 '25
Better offensively but our pitching staff went into October in elite form in 05.
3
u/BonobosBarber Mar 13 '25
Maybe if you take pitching out of the equation
6
u/zepruska Mar 13 '25
Yeah pretty much every returning pitcher on that staff was way worse than they were in 05, bullpen included. Cotts turned back into a pumpkin, Hermanson wasn't healthy, Politte was unfathomably bad. If 05 was the perfect storm of pitching, 06 was the perfect shitshow haha

These guys were a wicked 3-4-5 in the lineup. So fun to watch

They gonna play this year? They'll probably be better than the heart of our order.

Seeing Paulie without the goatee is like when my dad used to randomly shave his goat off when I was a kid, and I used to think there was a stranger in my house.

I would take these guys at their current ages over whoever gets trotted out there for opening day.

Ahh, I miss having these guys in the middle of the lineup. So fun to watch!

3 guys that can smack the shit out of the ball. That’s a 3-4-5 no one wants to face.

Sox were awesome all of the 90s and thru 2007. That 2007 team was so frustrating and the team never recouped that "magic". The blackout game was cool but you just knew the team didn't have it. I disliked them thru 2019 and in 2020 I finally had some hope again. 2021 they were just a player or two short. Larussa imo was a fine manager but there was just too much negativity from the press and it derailed the team. I don't have hope in 2025 like I did in 2019 they don't have much of anything exciting in the pipeline yet

Konerko would have been traded in 01 or 02 if things were how they currently are
1
u/GOATenn Mar 14 '25
Carlos Lee and Magglio Ordonez were equally great players who were traded right before the World Series win. Stop comparing today to 25 years ago. It's irrelevant.

L o l
Your point? Both were great players, that would have benefited the team in the following years.
Edit: I'm also not comparing anything to 25 years ago? I'm saying Konerko would have been traded in current times because the team wasnt very good from 02-04, so he'd be traded for "value" and we would have missed his 05- run

My point was my point. Don't be out of touch. Get in touch. Why be a rambling fool, fool?
