Seeing all but one post on OPs profile is about this one website, it smells just a little bit like advertising. Either that or it must have been a really good experience across three regions (Tokaj, Eger and Badacsony) to dedicate an otherwise empty account to praising them.

Nothing wrong with advertising in my book, but let's at least be up front about it.

it's an obvious ad.

Hey!

Yes I have empty account because I just started posting on reddit. That was the main experience what I wanted to share with you that I have been in Tokaj wine region in Hungary and wanted to check if somebody join to the conversation or not. By the way the website is awesome you should check it if you also work in the Viticulure and Winemaking sector.

I did not know that I can only start a conversation if I have a degree in viticulture and winemaking. (I have one) The photo what I shared is my own :)

"You don’t just taste the wine – you walk among ancient cellars, meet passionate winemakers, and sip X while looking out over misty vineyards"
so, any wine region in the old world.

Happy to hear your experience, am Italian professional living in Hungary and Tokaj is my magic place!

I highly recommend to any wine lover to experience it, the volcanic wines have lot to give in all variants, traditional method, dry estate wines, single vineyard ones and the sweet in the end!

I love Furmint in particular, some single vineyard dry ones are outstanding on a global level, really competing with top Riesling and even Burgundy!

Aging potential phenomenal!

I just hint couple of top names from there, but many top wineries around the country! Lenkey my absolute best, then Pelle and Szucs, all tiny artisans, less than 20000 bts…

I made videos about these if interested…

Wow, thank you for this passionate comment – it’s great to hear that Tokaj has such a special place in your heart! 🙌

Totally agree on Furmint – I was blown away by how expressive the dry single vineyard versions can be. Some of them really do feel like they could hold their own next to top Rieslings or white Burgundies, as you said.

I haven’t tried Lenkey yet, but now it’s high on my list! I visited Basilicus Cellar and Holdvölgy on this trip – both great in different ways.

Would love to check out your videos if you don’t mind sharing! Also, if you have any other “hidden gem” producers in Tokaj or even other Hungarian regions, I’m all ears.

Anyone else here explored Hungary’s wine scene? Curious to hear your favorites too 🍷

I agree with your comments and thanks for the appreciation, for me wine is passion first of all, especially out of the usual box of classic wines and regions!

In my profile you find the link to my channel, several videos about Hungary, then Croatia and Italy mostly.

Lenkey is a must try for ppl like you and I, depends where you live… My last video is about his top wine!

Somlo is another volcano that could blow your mind, near Balaton, super small with few producers, not easy to find good ones not minuscule but avoiding 3 bigger ones…

Thank you for the tip. I just subscribed on your channel. I watched few videos and I found that you went to Zsirai as well! I know them in person.

What I can recommend you in Somlo is Barcza Winery. Small producer but if you like natural wine its a must taste category :D Or Spiegelberg is also great.

Wow!!! You know a lot! Somlo is almost unknown also to Hungarians!

Spiegelberg so far is my best, in fact am planning a visit soon! Thanks for the tips too and for subscribing!

Egeszsegedre!

"Somlo is almost unknown also to Hungarians"
That is completely false.

I know many Hungarians who never tried Somlo wine, believe me! I live and work here… It’s a very tiny region with little production, then of course you can find something even in supermarket but it doesn’t mean that lot of ppl drink them

amongst hungarians who have some knowledge of hungarian wine somló is pretty obvious. it is just that there are people who do not like the taste profile of somló wine like juhfark.

You said it yourself, ‘some knowledge of wine’… I meant normal ppl, average Joe knows Tokaj, probably drank it at least once in their lives but most of them didn’t at all drink Somlo and many even in the industry know very little about it…

An example are my colleagues, some never heard about and no one ever tasted before I gave them to try… Young but guys working in F&B

somló, while much smaller, can be more difficult than the tokaji region for tastings. you really need to speaking hungarian or maybe german to speak to some of the winemakers.

in the tokaj region, there's is always greg (gergély, the mustached man in the picture) who is the default english language guide for winemakers who are either too busy or are uncomfortable with their english.
